  • Given a query (a health question), retrieval of relevant frequently asked questions (FAQs) is essential as the FAQs provide both reliable and readable information to healthcare consumers. The retrieval requires the estimation of the semantic similarity between the query and each FAQ. The similarity estimation is challenging as semantic structures of Chinese healthcare FAQs are quite different from those of the FAQs in other domains. In this paper, we propose a conceptual model for Chinese healthcare FAQs, and based on the conceptual model, present a technique ECA that estimates conceptual similarities between FAQs. Empirical evaluation shows that ECA can help various kinds of retrievers to rank relevant FAQs significantly higher. We also make ECA online to provide services for FAQ retrievers.

  • What is radical constructivism There were many questions arose related with radical constructivism in mathematics education. In this paper, the author put seven frequentlyasked questions on radical constructivism and described each question one by one in light with constructivists' point of views. The questions included types of constructivista, radical constructivism, trivial or weak constructivism, and social constructivism; representative people in radical constructivism; matter of ontological reality; evaluation of others' work; shared meaning; social influence; and teacher's roles from the perspectives of radical constructivism. • The purpose of this study was to examine the questions in the 'Matter' units of elementary science textbooks under the 7th curriculum. For the analysis, a total of 338 questions were extracted from 15 units. Six criteria (recalling, recognizing, predictive, applied, divergent, and evaluative question) were reconstructed for textbook question analysis based on Blosser(1973)'s question category system for science. The results were as follows. First, there were more closed (recalling, recognizing, predictive, or applied) questions (72.2%) than open (divergent or evaluative) questions (27.8%) in elementary science textbooks. Second, cognitive-memory (recalling or recognizing) question type was the most frequently asked in all grade levels. Open (divergent or evaluative) questions increased according to grade level whereas convergent (predictive or applied) questions decreased. Third, question types were applied based on the characteristics of each unit rather than on children's developmental characteristics. Educational implications were discussed based on the results.

  • This study investigated the types and frequencies of student-student questioning (SSQ) in a small group activities, 5 in one group or 2 in one group, during school experiments. Five girls of seventh grade were observed during school experiments and interviewed afterward. Between students, information-type questions were asked more frequently than thought-type questions. Most of the information-type questions were procedural ones and most of the thought-type questions were comprehension ones. However, thought-type questions did not make further discussion in the activities. The rate of answers in the case of 2 in one group was higher than that of 5 in one group. Moreover, the similar tendency was found when we investigated the rate of helpful question-answers. In a pair, lower achiever usually asked questions, not answered as much as in 5 in one group, and higher achiever answered. The frequency of SSQ in a pair was relatively low when there was a big difference of science achievements between pair members. In conclusion, information-type questions were asked more frequently than thought-type questions during school experiments and the rate of helpful question-answers was higher when group members was fewer.

  • The focus of this dissertation is on the comparative Analysis of Questions in the 'Matter Units of Elementary Science Textbook between the 7th Curriculum and the Revised Curriculum Year 2007. The results of the comparative Analysis in the dissertation are as follows: There were more closed questions than open questions in these elementary science textbooks both of the 7th Curriculum and the Revised Curriculum Year 2007. Cognitive-memory questions were the most frequently asked in all grade levels. In the Revised Curriculum Year 2007, Convergent thinking questions presented with higher rate than the 7th Curriculum. Divergent thinking questions and evaluative thinking questions was presented with a relatively lower rate than the 7th Curriculum. Question types were applied based on the characteristics of each unit rather than on children's developmental characteristics.

  • The Q&A service of the official Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) webpage was installed in 2000 and have been actively used since then. In this paper, we analyze the questions asked through the Q&A service and the number of inquiries with the aid of statistical methods. We also study the contents of the questions. Specifically, we have created statistics of questions and inquiries that go monthly and yearly, and have developed categories to analyze the characteristics of questions in regards to their cognitive aspects. Each question is categorized into two elements based on their recognitive aspect: science knowledge or science study. Each element also has sub-categories that help readers understand the characteristics of the questions. For the analysis, we used a sample consisted of questions from July to December, 2004. Through this study, we achieved a better understanding of the questions asked by the Q&A service. We are planning to improve the quality of the Q&A service by extending the size of the FAQ(frequently asked questions). Throughout this study, we find that the number of questions are increasing with time, and the overall quality of the questions is improving. As we expect the number of people using our Q&A service to increase and the questions to get more difficult to answer, development of improved content is required.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the contents of the questionnaires used in dietary surveys and to evaluate each item in relation to the item construction strategy. Articles of which the contents were related to food, nutrition, diet, dietary behavior, and related areas. Published from 1997 to 1999 were searched fir and a total of 121 questionnaires were collected and analyzed. The questions in the questionnaires were classified into related areas and sub-areas. Among the keywords in the title of the articles, the term 'nutritional status'(or 'dietary intake status') was most frequently used. The terms such as dietary status, obesity, health, food habit, and dietary behavior were also frequency used. Major topics of the items in the questionnaires varied according to the life cycle of the subjects of the study. The topics most frequently asked in each lift cycle were as follows : overeating, snack, and food preference for preschool- and school-aged children ; anthropometry, weight control, and snack for middle and highschool students : meal skipping, smoking, and drinking for college students : disease, smoking, drinking, and exercise for adults : and smoking, drinking, disease and perceived health for the elderly. Inappropriate questions with complicated language, typographic and grammatic errors, unnecessary words, and negative questions were found. Therefore, care should be taken to construct each question so as to avoid possible misinterpretation. Also, a standardized questionnaire be developed for survey researchers.

  • With the advent of multidetector-row CT, lung cancer imaging is much more promising than before. However, the effectiveness of multidetector-row CT in making an initial diagnosis, staging, and evaluating post-treatment changes of lung cancer still remains to be proved. Fast imaging along with volumetric data set and attendant multi-planar imaging provide much more details on the anatomic changes and pathology associated with lung cancer. However, with images showing anatomic and pathologic changes only, radiologists confront with several questions the answers of which may help evaluate lung cancer more thoroughly. The frequent questions that I have in dally practice of chest CT interpretation are as follows.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to investigate the current situation of Internet health counseling in Korean Medicine by analyzing the contents and pattern of the questions and answers in NAVER Jisik-iN. Methods : 1,121 questions answered by Korean Medicine doctors in NAVER Jisik-iN from January 2012 to June 2012 were extracted and analyzed. The contents and pattern of the questions and answers were classified. Then statistical analysis was performed and the research findings were compared with other studies. Results : Korean Medicine (KM) accounted for 1.73 percent of health counseling in NAVER Jisik-iN. Analyzing the questions and answers of KM counseling, questions about symptoms and answers providing medical knowledge were most common. The most frequently asked symptom was digestive disorder. Applying to Suchman's "Stage of Illness and Medical Care" model, 'the symptom-experience' stage took the first place. Conclusions : KM counseling in NAVER Jisik-iN has served as guidance for potential Korean Medicine consumers by providing medical knowledge about symptoms. For more effective guidance there should be a systematic Internet counseling system offering reliable information by KM doctors to meet the needs of medical consumers.
