  • This study deals with the vibration ride quality for passenger car when running on straight highway at the speed of 70km/h. Ten accelerations were measured at four positions, three axes each at the feet, hip, and head, and one axis at the back. Five seats that have different static sponge stiffness were used, and two subjects were participated. These accelerations were analyzed to produce the ride values such as component ride value and overall ride value. It was hard to see the difference of ride value by the change of sponge stiffness. However we could rank the ride quality by the total vibration exposed to passengers. From the transfer function between the hip and the foot, the fundamental mode was observed to be around 5.8Hz. Also the transfer function between the head and hip was studied. The optimal damping ratio of the seat was calculated according to the seat natural frequency with human weighting filter which makes the optimal damping ratio different from that without weighting filter.

  • In the grand alliance (GA) HDTV receiver, a coherent detection is empolyed for coherent demodulation of vestigial side-band (VSB) signal by using frequency and phaselocked loop(FPLL) operating on the pilot carrier. Additional phase tracking loop (PTL) employed to track out phase noise that has not been removed by the FPLL in theGA system. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for phase detection which utilizes a weighting function. The simplest implementation of the proposed algorithm using te sign of the Q channel component can be tractable by imposing a phase detection gain to the loop gain. It is obserbed that the propsoed algorithm has a robust characteristic against the performance of the digital filters used for Q channel estimation. A second goal of this paper is to introduce a gain control algorithm for the PTL in order to provide an effective implementation of the proposed phase detection algorithm. And we design the PTL through the realization of the simplified digital filter for H/W reduction. The proposed algorithms and the designed PTL are evaluated by computer simulation. In spite of using the simplified H/W structure, simulation results show that the proposed algorithms outperform the coventional PTL algorithms in the phase detection and tracking performance.

  • In this paper, we propose the non-contact method to measure rotational speed vector using spatial filtering method. The rotational speed $\omega$ is known by the frequency of output sinusoidal signal direct proportional to that and the rotational direction is given by the phase delay from the weighting function design of spatial filter.

  • This paper presents optimal robust PID controller design method for second order systems to satisfy the design specifications in time domain. The parameters of PID controller are determinated by the weighting factors Q and R of cost function. It is suggested that the selection of Q and R matrix can be determinated by its relationship with the natural frequency of ITAE criterion.

  • This paper consider a new weighted model reduction using block diagonal solutions of Lyapunov inequalities. With the input and/or output weighting function, the stability of reduced order system is quaranteed and a priori error bound is proposed. to achieve this, after finding the solutions of two Lyapunov inequalities and balancing the full order system, we find the reduced order systems using the direct truncation and the singular perturbation approximation. The proposed method is compared with other existing methods using numerical example.

  • Shocks are excited by impulsive forces and cause discomfort in vehicles. Current standards define means of evaluating shocks and predicting their discomfort, but the methods are based on research with a restricted range of shocks. This experimental study was designed to investigate the discomfort of seated subjects exposed to a wide range of vertical shocks. Shocks were produced from the responses of one degree-of-freedom models, with 16 natural frequencies (from 0.5 to 16 Hz) and four damping ratios (0.05 0.1, 0.2 and 0.4), to a hanning-windowed half-sine force inputs. Each type of shock was presented at five vibration dose values in the range $0.35\;ms^{-1.75}$ to $2.89\;ms^{-1.75}$. Fifteen subjects used magnitude estimation method to judge the discomfort of all shocks. The exponent in Stevens' power law, indicating the rate of growth in discomfort with shock magnitude, decreased with increasing fundamental frequency of the shocks. At all magnitudes, the equivalent comfort contours showed greatest sensitivity to shocks having fundamental frequencies in the range 4 to 12.5 Hz. At low magnitudes the variations in discomfort with the shock fundamental frequency were similar to the frequency weighting $W_b$ in BS 6841, but low frequency high magnitudes shocks produced greater discomfort than predicted by this weighting. At some frequencies, for the same unweighted vibration dose value, there were small but significant differences in discomfort caused by shocks having different damping ratios. The rate of increase in discomfort with increasing shock magnitude depends on the fundamental frequency of the shock. In consequence, the frequency-dependence of discomfort produced by vertical shocks depends on shock magnitude. For shocks of low and moderate discomfort, the current methods seem reasonable, but the response to higher magnitude shocks needs further investigation.

  • In this paper, we present a new inter-carrier interference (ICI) self-cancellation scheme - namely, ISC scheme - for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing systems to reduce the ICI generated from phase noise (PHN) and residual frequency offset (RFO). The proposed scheme comprises a new ICI cancellation mapping (ICM) scheme at the transmitter and an appropriate method of combining the received signals at the receiver. In the proposed scheme, the transmitted signal is transformed into a real signal through the new ICM using the real property of the transmitted signal; the fast-varying PHN and RFO are estimated and compensated. Therefore, the ICI caused by fast-varying PHN and RFO is significantly suppressed. We also derive the carrier-to-interference power ratio (CIR) of the proposed scheme by using the symmetric conjugate property of the ICI weighting function and then compare it with those of conventional schemes. Through simulation results, we show that the proposed ISC scheme has a higher CIR and better bit error rate performance than the conventional schemes.

  • Oscillatory wheel load fluctuation of considerable amplitude is almost always observed on railway vehicle running at high speed. From the acceleration measured on the axle-box, the frequency of this fluctuation is estimated to be approximately within 70 Hz. By the conventional measuring method, continuous outputs of wheel load can not be obtained, so it is difficult to investigate such a high frequency phenomenon exactly. We have developed a new method of measuring the forces and derailment coefficient continuously, using two pairs of strain gauge bridges whose output phases are shifted by 90 degree, and summing up the outputs with a weighting function. This method is available for measuring the forces between wheel and rail up to high frequency. In this paper, continuous method of measuring forces between wheel and rail and derailment coefficient.

  • Topology optimization is an effective scheme to obtain the initial design concept: however, it is hard to apply in case of non-linear or multi-objective problems. In this study, a modified topology optimization method is proposed to generate a structure of a swing arm type actuator satisfying maximum compliance as well. as maximum stiffness using the multi-objective optimization. approach. The multi-objective function is defined to maximize the compliance in the direction of focusing of the actuator and the second eigen-frequency of the structure. The design of experiments are performed and the response surface functions are formulated to construct the multi-objective function. The weighting factors between conflicting functions are determined by the back-error propagation neural network and the solution of multi-objective function is acquired using the genetic algorithm.

  • The high peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR) of the transmitted signals is one of the major drawbacks of the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM). The partial transmit sequences(PTS) technique can improve the PAPR statistics of the OFDM signals. However, in the PTS technique, the computational complexity to select phase weighting factors increases exponentially with the number of sub-blocks. In this paper, a search algorithm that has no limit on the values of phase weighting factors and requires no additional operations for the search is presented. To evaluate the performance, the proposed search algorithm is compared with the full search algorithm in terms of the complementary cumulative distribution function(CCDF) of the PAPR and the computational complexity. It is shown through simulations that the proposed technique can achieve significant reductions in the computational complexity with little performance degradation compared with the full search algorithm.
