Elastic constraints are usually simplified as "spring forces" exerted on beam ends without considering the "spring deformation". The partial differential equation governing the free vibrations of a cantilever Bernoulli-Euler beam considering the deformation of elastic constraints is firstly established, and is nondimensionalized to obtain two dimensionless factors, $k_v$ and $k_r$, describing the effects of elastically vertical and rotational end constraints, respectively. Then the frequency equation for the above Bernoulli-Euler beam model is derived using the method of separation of variables. A numerical analysis method is proposed to solve the transcendental frequency equation for the continuous change of the frequency with $k_v$ and $k_r$. Then the mode shape functions are given. Finally, effects of $k_v$ and $k_r$ on free vibration characteristics of the beam with different slenderness ratios are calculated and analyzed. The results indicate that the effects of $k_v$ are larger on higher-order free vibration characteristics than on lower-order ones, and the impact strength decreases with slenderness ratio. Under a relatively larger slenderness ratio, the effects of $k_v$ can be neglected for the fundamental frequency characteristics, while cannot for higher-order ones. However, the effects of $k_r$ are large on both higher- and lower-order free vibration characteristics, and cannot be neglected no matter the slenderness ratio is large or small.
General free vibration characteristics of cantilevered circular cylindrical tanks are analyzed using the integral equations technique with the cubic spline functions. For computations, the partial differential equations for thin shallow shells as given by Flugge's have been employed after the addition of the inertia forces. The application of the method is illustrated with a numerical examples of tanks which are free at the top edge and fixed at the bottom. The results obtained by this method have been compared with the available results and a good agreement was found.

Free vibration characteristics of a cantilevered laminated composite beam with multiple non-propagating transverse open cracks are investigated. In the present analysis a special ply-angle distribution referred to as asymmetric stiffness configuration inducing the elastic coupling between chord-wise bending and extension is considered. The multiple open cracks are modelled as equivalent rotational springs whose spring constants are calculated based on the fracture mechanics of composite material structures. Governing equations of a composite beam with open cracks are derived via Hamilton's Principle and Timoshenko beam theory encompassing transverse shear and rotary inertia effect is adopted. The effects of various parameters such as the ply angle, fiber volume fraction, crack numbers, crack positions and crack depthes on the free vibration characteristics of the beam with multiple cracks are highlighted. The numerical results show that the existence of the multiple cracks in an anisotropic composite beam affects the free vibration characteristics in a more complex fashion compared with the beam with a single crack.

Liquid storage rectangular tank structures are used in many fields of airplane and marine engineering. Fatigue damages are sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance. Therefore it is essentially important to estimate vibration characteristics of tank structures. Many Investigators studied the vibration of cylindrical and rectangular tank structures containing still fluid. In general, the eigenbehavior of interior liquid is characterized by the sloshing mode while that of the structure by the bulging mode. However, the structure deformation to the sloshing mode and the liquid free-surface fluctuation to the bulging mode have been neglected in the classical added-mass computation. in the present paper, we study the vibration characteristics with sloshing mode effect.

The coupled vibration characteristics for the fluid-structure interaction systems are investigated through the finite element method. The present paper is focused on vibration characteristics of the cylindrical fluid-storage tank with a baffle. The tank is partially filled with an inviscid and irrotational fluid having a free surface. A baffle is assumed here to have the shape of a thin annular plate and a conical shell, attached to the cylindrical tank and positioned below the fluid surface. The liquid domain is limited by a rigid flat bottom. As the effect of free surface waves is taken into account in the analysis, the bulging and sloshing modes are studied. To demonstrate the validity of present results, they are compared with the published ones. The effect of positions and inner-to-outer radius ratio of annular baffle and setting angles of conical baffle on coupled vibration characteristics is investigated.

The theoretical method is developed to investigate the vibration characteristics of the sloshing and bulging mode for the circular cylindrical storage tank with an annular plate on free surface. The cylindrical tank is filled with an inviscid and incompressible liquid. The liquid domain is limited by a rigid cylindrical surface and a rigid flat bottom. As the effect of free surface waves Is taken into account in the analysis, the bulging and sloshing modes are studied. The solution for the velocity potential of liquid movement is assumed as a suitable harmonic function that satisfies Laplace equation and the relevant boundary conditions. The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to derive the frequency equation of the cylindrical tank. The effect of Inner-to-outer radius ratio and thickness of annular plate and liquid volume on vibration characteristics of storage tank is studied. The finite element analysis is performed to demonstrate the validity of present theoretical method.

A study of the coupled flexural-torsional vibrations of thin-walled beams with monosymmetric cross-section is presented. The governing differential equations for free vibration of such beams are solved numerically to obtain natural frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes. The beam model is based on the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and the effect of warping is taken into consideration. Numerical results are given for two specific examples of beams with free-free, clamped-free, hinged-hinged, clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints both including and excluding the effect of warping stiffness. The effect of warping stiffness on the natural frequencies and mode shapes is discussed and it is concluded that substantial error can be incurred if the effect is ignored.

Time-dependent frequency and energy of free vibration of the Spagetti problem, that is the axially moving continuum with time-varying length, are investigated. Exact expressions for the natural frequency and time-varying vibration energy are derived by dealing with traveling waves. When the string length is increased, the vibration period increases, but the free vibration energy varies as a function of both translating velocity and boundary velocity of the continuum. However, when the string undergoes retraction, the vibration energy increases with time, String tension together with non-zero instantaneous velocity at the moving boundary results in energy variation.

This paper presents the vibration characteristics of a cantilever beam in contact with a fluid using a PZT actuator and PVDF film. dynamic behaviors of a flexible beam-water interaction system are examined. The effect of the liquid level on free vibration of the composite beam in a partially liquid-filled circular cylinder is investigated. The coupled system is subject to an undisturbed boundary condition un the fluid domain. In the vibration analysis of a wetted beam. the decoupled analyses between beam and fluid have been conventionally employed by considering first the composite beam vibration in the all and secondly Performing the correction taking account for surrounding fluid effects. That is, this investigation was to look at how natural frequencies, mode shapes. and damping are affected by liquid level variations. The signals from the sensor according to the applied input voltage are digitalized and filtered in order to obtain the dynamic characteristics of the composite beam in contact with fluid. It was found that the coupled natural frequencies decreased with the fluid level for the identical composite beam due to added mass effect. In case of the free-free boundary condition, the natural frequency gently decreased at fluid water level between 20% and 80% in the first tending mode and we found out the bends of stair shape for added mass effect of the fluid.

The effects of boundary conditions on natural frequencies for the ring stiffened composite cylindrical shells are investigated by theoretical method. The Love's thin shell theory and the discrete stiffener theory with beam functions in the Ritz procedure are used to derive the frequency equation. Five different boundary conditions such as clamped-clamped, simply supported-simply supported, free-free, clamped-free, clamped-simply supported are considered in this study. Also, the experimental investigation is presented to validate the theoretical results.
