  • This paper reports the fluid flow and heat transfer around a module cooled by forced air flow generated by a piezoelectric(PZT) cooling fan. A flexible PZT fan with distortion in a fluid transport system of comparatively simple structure which was mounted on a PCB in a parallel-plate channel($450{\times}80{\times}700mm^3$) accelerates surrounding fluid locally. Input voltages of 20-100V and a resonance frequency of 23Hz were used to vibrate the cooling fan. Input power to the module was 4W. The cooling effect using a PZT fan was larger than that of free convection. Fluid flow around the module were visualized by using PIV system. The temperature distribution around heated module were visualized by using liquid crystal film(LCF). We found that the flow type was y-shaped and the cooling effect was increased by the wake generated by a piezoelectric cooling fan.

  • The application of ozone solid polymer electrolyte or Membrel water electrolysis cells with $PbO_2$ anodes for anodic generation of ozone in electrolyte-free water is reported. Maximum yields were obtained at a temperature of $25^{\circ}C-30^{\circ}C$ and current density of about 1A/$cm^2$.   • In this study, a mathematical model of the pneumatic part in a gas blow-down system is proposed. The mathematical model consists of four major parts: pressure vessel, reservoir, pressure regulator and pipe-line. To ensure accuracy in long-time simulations, heat transfer between gas and pressure vessel is considered. The model is validated by comparing simulation results with experimental data. Experiments are conducted on the ground, where free convection can be assumed. Simulation results indicate the proposed model can accurately describe behavior of a gas blow-down system. Therefore, it may be used for design and analysis of similar systems with a slight modification.

  • Numerical solutions for two-dimensional, steady, free convection are presented for a cylinder filled with saturated porous media. An annulus is bounded by inner wall with constant heat flux and two adiabatic horizontal walls with outer wall isothermally cooled. Governing equations are numerically solved for the range of Aspect Ratio 1 to 20, Radius Ratio, 1 to 20, and Rayleigh number, 50 to $10^4$ by Finite Difference method utilizing upwind scheme. Results are presented in terms of stream lines and isotherms, temperature distributions and local Nusselt numbers at the heated wall. Average Nusselt numbers are also presented for the comparisons.

  • The nonlinear free-surface motions interacting with a floating body were investigated using the Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method proposed by Koshizuka and Oka [6] for incompressible flow. In the numerical method, more realistic Lagrangian moving particles were used for solving the flow field instead of the Eulerian approach with a grid system. Therefore, the convection terms and time derivatives in the Navier-Stokes equation can be calculated more directly, without any numerical diffusion, instabilities, or topological failure. The MPS method was applied to a numerical simulation of predicting the efficiency of floating-type breakwater interacting with waves.

An Experimental Study on Heat Transfer Characteristics of a Thermal Diode Type Enclosure with a Guide Vane

  • An experimental study for free convective heat transfer in a thermal diode type enclosure is presented. The thermal diode is a device which allows heat to be transferred in one direction by convection due to density difference of the fluid, and consists of a rectangular-paralle-logrammic enclosure with a guide vane. It is used as heat collection system of solar energy due to its simple construction and low cost. Experimental parameters were guide vane thickness, the inclination angles of the parallelogrammic enclosure, and the lengths of the rectangular enclosure part. The parameter range of the flux Rayleigh numbers was $2.4\times{10}^8$~$9.8\times{10}^8$. The heat transfer rate of this system was shown 10~47% higher than that of other earlier research results without the guide vane. The correlation for fixed $\phi=60^\circ$ was obtained, Nu=0.0037(Ra^*)^{0.429}(d^*)^ {0.050}(Lr/H)^{0.0415}$.

벽에서 열원이 있는 수직채널안의 자연대류열전달 (Free Convective Heat Transfer in a Vertical Channel with Heat Source at the Wall)

  • In this study, a numerical analysis was performed for the natural convection heat transfer in a vertical channel which was consisted of two finite-thickness vertical walls with heat source. The ratio of the thermal conductivity of wall to air played an important role in the analysis. The case for which one side wall has protrusion resistances was also examined. The governing equations for the system was discretized by control volume formulation and solved by SIMPLE method. As the result of this study, it was found that the uniform heat flux boundary condition could be applied when the conductivity ratio was below approximately 50 and the uniform temperature boundary condition could be used when the conductivity rat io was over approximately 15,000. However, when the conductivity ratio was between 50 and 15,000, the thermal conductivity ratio value should be considered for the analysis. It was also found that the existence of protrusion resistance influenced the thermal field up to the distance of 3-4 times of the protrusion length.

Protein Quality Evaluation of Cooked Hagfish (Eptatretus burgeri) Meats

  • The effect of cooking methods on in vivo and in vivo indices of the protein quality of hagfish meat were investigated. In vivo protein digestibilities of cooked meats (81.3~83.5 %) were not significant different (p<0.05) from those of van meat (82.9%), with the exception of steamed (11$0^{\circ}C$, 15 min) meat (86.3 %). Convection oven cooking (22$0^{\circ}C$, IS min) resulted in a higher trypsin indigestible substrate (TIS, 49.2 mg/g solid) compared with that of raw meat (38.9 mg/g solid). free amino acid content of raw meat was decreased after boiling (10$0^{\circ}C$, 10min). Both convection oven and microwave cooking (2,450 MHz, 3 min) decreased available lysine from 4.9g/16g N to 3.8~4.1g/16g N. In vivo apparent protein digestibilites (AD) of hagfish meat were similar fur raw (92.4%) and cooked meats, but were somewhat lower than ANRC (Animal Nutrition Research Council) casein (945%). The PERs (3.7~4.1) and NPRs (3.7~4.9) of cooked meats were significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of raw meat (PER 3.3, NPR 3.6 and ANRC casein (PER 2.5, NPR 2.6), despite their lower in vivo protein digestibilities. These results demonstrate that cooking at optimal conditions resulted in remarkably positive effects on in vivo and in vivo protein qualities of hagfish meats. Therefore, steamed hagfish meat is an excellent source of high quality protein from seafood products.

슬로싱 해석을 위한 CCUP 기반 시뮬레이션 기술 개발 (DEVELOPMENT OF A NUMERICAL SIMULATION METHOD FOR THE ANALYSIS OF SLOSHING PROBLEMS BASED ON CCUP SCHEME)

  • A new computational program, which is based on the CIP/CCUP(Constraint Interpolation Profile/CIP Combined Unified Procedure) method, has been developed to numerically analyse sloshing phenomena dealt as multiphase-flow problems. For the convection terms of Navier-Stokes equations, the RCIP(Rational function CIP) method was adopted and the THINC-WLIC(Tangent of Hyperbola for Interface Capturing-Weighted Line Interface Calculation) method was used to capture the air/water interface. To validate the present numerical method, two-dimensional dam-breaking and sloshing problems in a rectangular tank were solved by the developed method in a stationary Cartesian grid system. In the case of sloshing problems, simulations by using a improved MPS(Moving Particle Simulation) method, which is named as PNU-MPS(Pusan National University-MPS), were also carried out. The computational results are compared with those of experiments and most of the comparisons are reasonably good.

수평 원형전열관의 핀효과에 의한 응축 및 비등 열전달촉진에 관한 연구 (1)-튜브외부 비등- (A Study on the Improvement of Condensation and Boiling Heat Transfer on Horizntal Tube by Fin Effect(l)-Shellside Boiling-)

  • Heat transfer performance of integral-fin tube which is used in recipro turbo refrigerator or high compact heat exchangers is studied. Eight tubes with trapezoidal shaped integral-fins having fin densities from 748 to 1654 fpm and 10, 30 internal grooves are tested. A plain tube having the same(inner and outer) diameter as the fin tubes is also tested for comparison. Pool boiling heat transfer of R-11 is investigated experimentally and theoretically on single tube arrangement. The refrigerant evaporates at saturation state of 1 bar on the outside tube surface and heat is supplied by not water which circulates inside of the tube. From the result of eight fin tubes and one plain tube tested, a tube having 1299 fpm-30 grooves shows the best performance. A maximum overall heat transfer coefficient of this tube is about 4000 $W/m^{2}K$ at 2.8m/s of water velocity. The maximum heat transfer enhancement (i.e., the ratio of overall heat transfer coefficients of finned to plain tubes)is about 2.1.
