Background and objective: This study verified the physiological and psychological effects of plant fragrance therapy to analyze whether the therapy has a forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers. Methods: This study was conducted from March 14 to May 31, 2020 according to the Green Camp curriculum for 2 weeks per recruit class. Thus, plant fragrance therapy was implemented twice each for three recruit classes. Each session of the program was carried out for 4 hours from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The venue was the garden within the camp and the forest nearby. Forest healing activities using plant fragrances were led by 1 forest education specialist and 1 assistant. The effects of plant fragrance therapy for maladjusted soldiers were analzed analyzed by quantifying physiological and psychological changes through measuring brain waves and stress levels before and after the therapy. Results: As a result of analyzing BRQ and SQ to determine the physiological and psychological healing effect of plant fragrance therapy, both the left and right brain showed higher BRQ and SQ after the therapy with statistical significance. This indicates that plant fragrance therapy on maladjusted soldiers helped positively stabilize their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions, and stabilization of brain waves lowered physical and mental stress and improved self-regulation and immunity. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in ATO. This is the result of analyzing the stress-coping mechanism. Troubleshooting (t = -2.702, df = 61, p = .009), emotional remission (t = -2.173, df = 61, p = .034), pursuit of help (t = -3.286), df = 61, p = .002), and wishful thinking (t = -3.714, df = 61, p < .001) showed statistically significant results. Conclusion: Applying plant fragrance therapy to maladjusted soldiers positively stabilized their negative psychological and behavioral dispositions and helped their self-regulation. Thus, plant fragrance therapy has psychological and physical forest healing effect on maladjusted soldiers.

This study was carried out to find the effects of aromatherapy using natural fragrance on reducing stress and improving job satisfaction of transportation workers in the taxi industry. A total of 120 workers were divided into the experimental group and the control group according to the inhalation of the fragrance and tested for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, the difference of emotional change, stress analysis, and evaluation of job satisfaction according to aromatherapy were compared between the two groups. The result showed that the experimental group had a higher interest in scent products than the control group and that they wanted to encounter a lot of real scents, indicating that aromatherapy caused positive interest in general scent likability. In addition, the experimental group said that the inhalation of fragrance would refresh the feeling of the passengers in the vehicle and smoothly communicate with the passengers. Especially, it showed a significant difference between the two groups in terms of tension relief, pleasure and good mood by inhalation of fragrance, indicating the positive effect on job satisfaction.
The essential oil of Nardostachys jatamansi (Valerianaceae), which has been used for a long time in aroma therapy, was investigated after inhalation or oral administration for its analgesic effect, anticonvulsant action, hypnotic effect and in vitro inhibitory activity on monoamine oxidase. This fragrance oil showed a significant analgesic effect in the phenylquinone-induced .writhing test, suppressed the convulsion induced by pentylenetetrazole and lengthened the pentobarbital-induced sleeping time in a time-dependent manner after fragrance inhalation or dose-independently by oral administration. Its inhibitory activity on monoamine oxidase was remarkable, showing $49.4\%$ inhibition at a concentration of 5.0 mg/ml. Six new terpenes with seven known compounds were detected by our GC-MS analytical conditions used. As a result, the essential oil fragrance of Nardostachys jatamansi would be clinically useful for a sedative by either inhalation or oral administration.
The present study was designed to evaluate central inhibitory effects of an essential oil from Acori graminei Rhizoma (AGR), the dry rhizomes of Acorus gramineus Solander (Araceae) upon fragrance inhalation (aroma therapy). Preinhalation of an essential oil of AGR markedly delayed the appearance of pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsion. Furthermore, the inhalation of an essential oil of AGR impressively inhibited the activity of ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transaminase, a degradating enzyme for GABA as inhalation period is lengthened. Aroma therpay in the western classical medicine is compared with the mechanistic paradigm of Newton physics which is the foundation of western modern medicine. It is the therapy whose basic principle is very similar to the basic concepts of oriental medicine lasting thousands of years. We know that parts of their therapies are explained by Yin-Yan and five elements in Oriental Medicine. In the modern western medicine, as preventive medicine is becoming more and more important and moreover, health promotion and self healing care is being emphasized, Maintenanayce which is the oriental preventive medicine, acts in concert with the concept of New Age of Science and provides a way for the Oriental Medicine of the future. The health promotion and self healing care is similar to the thought of Maintenanayce in Oriental Medicine. Oriental Medicine has provided the concept of preventive ehaling care for a long time and built the foundation of the department of Maintenanayce. Among these method of Preservation of Health, We could find that of using fragrance throuth the several references. By comparing the department of Maintenanayce in oriental preventive medicine with the books and papers about aroma therapy, used in the fields of naturalpathy medicine, alternative medicine, and complementary medicine in the west, and by analyzing them, centering around references, to see whether they are reasonable and corresponding, the following conclusions have been reached. 1. We could see that aroma therapy of oriental preventive medicine could be applied to the fields of health promotion and self healing cure, recently appearing in the world of health medicine, as a modern way of Preservation of Health(養生). 2. We could see that western traditional aroma therapy take important position in alternative medicine and complementary medicine, and it could be developed as the transitional field of medical cure for the interchange between western and eastern medicine. 3. We could see that aroma therapy is not totally unknown therapy and there is some points of similarity in the traditional references of oriental medicine. Also, it is considered that the aroma therapy has a possibility of coming the front as an general therapy among various therapies. 4. aroma therapy will be actively applied to many fields such as oriental psychiatry, internal medicine of the respiratory system, pediatrics, oriental nursing, oriental dermatologic beauty, and preventive medicine. Therefore, we have a view that the combination between aroma therapy and oriental medicine will be fairly valuable to study as the general and transtional middle step on which it will prepare the situation of oriental medicine's reimportation from the west and we establish a bridgehead to export the oriental medicine.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Lavender inhalation on sleep, depression and stress of institutionalized elderly. Methods: The methods used in the study follows a non-equivalent pre- and post-test design. 39 institutionalized elderly were recruited using a convenient sampling method that assigned them to the experimental or the control group. The experimental group were then provided with essential Lavender oil, as part of the aroma inhalation intervention, to inhale before sleeping for 7 days. The collected data were analysed with SPSS 18.0 (windows program), using frequency percentage (%), a Chi-square test and an independent t-test. Results: The results were that the experimental group had significantly higher sleep status scores(t=5.195, p=.000), and lower depression scores (t=-5.479, p=.000), physical stress scores (t=-5.741, p=.000) and psychological stress scores (t=-4.233, p=.000) than those in the control group. Conclusion: This study suggests that aroma inhalation, as part of aroma therapy, be applied and comprehensively adopted as a method of nursing intervention for improvement of sleep, depression and stress for institutionalized elderly.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effects of five senses activities in forests on the reduction or mitigation of daily stress using various forest healing factors such as water, sunlight, topography, phytoncide, landscape, sound, fragrance, etc. The subjects of this study were 40 young children aged 5 in an early childhood education institution located in Cheongju. The children were divided into two groups: 20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The experimental group participated in the program of five senses activities in the forest in total of 12 sessions (1-2 sessions a week), with each session lasting 60 minutes from May 8 to June 16, 2017. The control group, who did not participate in the five senses activities in the forest, participated in the Nuri Curriculum operated by the educational institution. Before and after the program, tests to measure daily stress in three different situations (encountering blame-aggression situation, experiencing anxiety-frustration, and losing self-respect) were conducted on young children and the data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. As a result, daily stress of the young children decreased in all three situations with statistical significance. Through the five senses activities in the forest, young children could feel the nature by observing and exploring it in the forest, so which reduced their daily stress compared to the activities carried out in the classroom.
The experience of natural dyeing is expected to be effective in promoting health through good exercise, in giving emotional stability based on the functional aromatic components of the dyeing material, and in improving self-esteem and increasing positive experiences through the behavior of creation. A natural dyeing material easily found around us, artemisia has long been used in food and Oriental medicine and was recently found to contain antioxidative, anticancer, deodorizing, antibacterial, anti-obesity, and anti-diabetes substances through chemical analysis. It has also been reported that group reminiscence therapy using the fragrance of artemisia is effective in relieving pain and depression and in promoting ego integrity in the elderly population. This study aimed to make a comparative analysis of dyeability, washing fastness, and deodorization between Artemisia princeps, Artemisia iwayomogi, and Artemisia annua, all of which are considered to be healthful and functional dyeing materials, among about thirty domestic plants in the genus of Artemisia and to provide basic data concerning natural dyeing in mind-peace education for the silver generation. The fabric dyed and post-mordanted at $80^{\circ}C$ for 40 minutes showed the greatest surface color variation; in this condition, artemisia princes (32.29) gave the greatest color difference, followed by artemisia iwayomogi (31.07) and artemisia annua (26.17). While all the types of artemisia were excellent in washing fastness, dry-cleaning fastness, and rubbing fastness at the fourth- or fifth-grade, light fastness was at the third grade for artemisia princes, at the second to third grade for artemisia annua, and at the second grade for artemisia iwayomogi; therefore, artemisia princes was found to give better fastness than the other two types of artemisia. In determining functionality of the fabric dyed with artemisia, deodorization test also found that the fabric dyed with artemisia princes had 20% higher deodorization.
This study is a descriptive research study to analyze knowledge and attitude about CAM and aromatherapy for health department students in H8 university health department students(528 students) in Chungcheongdo-do. The results of this study showed that the treatment methods and therapeutic advantages of CAM showed a positive attitude and the recognition of the therapeutic effect on aromatherapy was somewhat higher. However, the knowledge level of aromatherapy was rather low. The students of the department of health science showed a relatively high awareness of the need for education in CAM, but aromatherapy showed a relatively low perception. Therefore, in order to reduce patient welfare and symptom in health department, it is necessary to develop knowledge training for knowledge application and effective treatment and development of clinical practice program for various treatment methods.
