  • Ionospheric error modeling is necessary to create reliable global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals using a GNSS simulator. In this paper we developed algorithms to generate Klobuchar coefficients ${\alpha}_n$, ${\beta}_n$ (n = 1, 2, 3, 4) for a GNSS simulator and verified accuracy of the algorithm. The eight Klobuchar coefficients were extracted from three years of global positioning system broadcast (BRDC) messages provided by International GNSS service from 2006 through 2008 and were fitted with Fourier series. The generated coefficients from our developed algorithms are referred to as Fourier Klobuchar model (FOKM) coefficients, while those coefficients from BRDC massages are named as BRDC coefficients. The correlation coefficient values between FOKM and BRDC were higher than 0.97. We estimated total electron content using the Klobuchar model with FOKM coefficients and compared the result with that from the BRDC model. As a result, the maximum root mean square was 1.6 total electron content unit.

  • For a simple implementation, a linear convex splitting scheme was coupled with the Fourier spectral method for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a logarithmic free energy. However, an inappropriate value of the splitting parameter of the linear scheme may lead to incorrect morphologies in the phase separation process. In order to overcome this problem, we present a nonlinear convex splitting Fourier spectral scheme for the Cahn-Hilliard equation with a logarithmic free energy, which is an appropriate extension of Eyre's idea of convex-concave decomposition of the energy functional. Using the nonlinear scheme, we derive a useful formula for the relation between the gradient energy coefficient and the thickness of the interfacial layer. And we present numerical simulations showing the different evolution of the solution using the linear and nonlinear schemes. The numerical results demonstrate that the nonlinear scheme is more accurate than the linear one.

  • In this paper, FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analysis of friction was suggested as a method to interpret the contact conditions. Micro-grooves with various dimensions were fabricated on the silicon surface to investigate the frictional behavior with respect to the change in geometrical contact condition. Frictional forces between micro-grooved surfaces and spheres modeled as surface asperities were measured using a micro-tribotester which was built inside a SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope). The experimental results show that the relative dimensions and distributions of contact asperities between two surfaces can be predicted by the power spectrum and the main frequency in FFT-based analysis of friction coefficient. Also, it was shown that the friction coefficient for multi-asperities was the result of the superposition of that for each asperity.

  • Purpose: We have evaluated both the reliability and accuracy of refractive measurement from autorefractor by comparing with subjective refraction data. Methods: Measurements of refractive error were performed on 198 eyes of 99 subjects in noncycloplegic condition. Also we analyzed refraction results and evaluated repeatability and accuracy of subjective refraction and autorefraction. Furthermore we analyzed accuracy of autorefractor by Fourier analysis. Results: Reliability coefficient of the autorefraction for the right eye were determined to by 0.993, 0.974 and 0.925 respectively, in the spherical, cylinderical component and cylinderical Axis. Also, the reliability coefficient of the autorefraction for the left eye were found to be 0.991, 0.948 and 0.886, respectively, in the spherical, cylinderical component and cylinderical Axis. From the Fourier analysis no statistically significant differences in $J_{0}$ component were found between the auto and subjective refraction measurements (p>0.05) whereas difference of refractive power of $J_{45}$ component when compared with the subjective refraction were -0.019, -0.164. Conclusions: We conclude that autorefractormeter can be effectively used to measure the refractive power within the error limits.

  • Optimal trajectory for a robot manipulator minimizing actuator torques or energy consumption in a fixed traveling time is obtained in the presence of obstacles. All joint displacements are represented in finite terms of Fourier cosine series and the coefficients of the series are obtained optimally by nonlinear programming. Thus, the geometric path need not be prespecified and the full dynamic model is employed. To avoid the obstacles, the concept of penalty area is newly introduced and this penalty area is included in the performance index with an appropriate weighting coefficient. This optimal trajectory will be useful as a geometric path in the minimum-time trajectory planning problem.

  • Normalized cross-correlation (correlation coefficient) is a useful measure for pattern matching in PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) analysis. Because it does not have a corresponding simple expression in frequency domain, several fast but inexact measures have been used. Among them, three measures of correlation for PIV analysis and the normalized cross-correlation were evaluated with a sample calculation. The test revealed that all other proposed correlation measures sometimes show inaccurate results, except the normalized cross-correlation. However, correlation coefficient method has a weakpoint that it requires so long time for calculation. To overcome this shortcoming, a fast and exact method for calculating normalized cross-correlation is suggested. It adopts Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) for calculation of covariance and the successive-summing method for the denominator of correlation coefficient. The new algorithm showed that it is really fast and exact in calculating correlation coefficient.

  • FTT(Fast Fourier Transform) processor is widely used in OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplesing) system. Because of the increased requirement of mobility and bandwidth in the OFDM system, they need large point FTT processor. Since the size of memory which stores the twiddle factor coefficients are proportional to the N of FFT size, we propose a new method by which we can reduce the size of the coefficient memory. In the proposed method, we exploit a counter and unsigned multiplier to generate the twiddle factor indices. To verify the proposed algorithm, we design TFCGs(Twiddle Factor Coefficient Generator) for 1024pint FFTs with R2SDF(Radix-2 Single-Path Delay Feedback), $R2^3SDF,\;R2^3SDF,\;R2^4SDF$ architectures. The size of ROM is reduced to 1/8N. In the case of $R2^4SDF$ architecture, the area and the power are reduced by 57.9%, 57.5% respectively.

  • The rubber crawler system for farm machine is composed of driving units such as track rollers, driving sprockets and rubber crawlers. Vibration characteristics of the rubber crawler system varies by driving speed, center of gravity, mass□moment of inertial□location arrangement of track rollers and dynamic parameters such as dynamic spring constant (k) and viscous damping coefficient (c) of a rubber crawler. In general, vibration of the rubber crawler system occurs by reason for mechanical interaction between the rubber crawler and track rollers. Because the dynamic spring constant and viscous damping coefficient vary periodically by mechanical characteristics(deformation characteristics) of the rubber crawler when track rollers drive on the between lugs of the rubber crawler. Therefore, both dynamic parameters k and c were expressed as Fourier series by authors through the shaking test of the rubber crawler and further, vibration characteristics of the rubber crawler system could be simulated analytically. However, actual values of dynamic parameters k and c are different from those obtained by the shaking test because dynamic characteristics of the rubber crawler vary by the effect of variable tension and driving resistance of track rollers. So, actual values of k and c should be identified in the condition of actual driving test. In this study, dynamic parameters such as k and c of the rubber crawler system, which are expressed as Fourier series, were identified using the Gauss-Newton Method. Therefore, validity of identified parameters k and c was discussed through the simulation using experimental data of actual driving test. As a result, in the Fourier series of dynamic parameters of spring constant k and viscous damping coefficient c, excellent parameter convergence and simulation were observed using the Fourier series' zero order and first term of the dynamic model. Furthermore, it was clarified that identification for model parameters which are fitted to actual dynamic motion (vibration) wave of the crawler system was possible by using the time series data observed in vertical and pitching motion of the crawler system.
