  • This paper reviews the learning model of a forward slip ratio in order to improve the mass-flow stability and strip qualities in the hot strip finishing mill process. Firstly, it is shown, from mathematical analysis, that the significant parameters of the forward slip ratio are the tension, looper angle, and roll velocity. Secondly, a discrete-time learning model of the forward slip ratio is proposed from these parameters, which is identified by an instrumental variable (IV) identification algorithm. Finally, it is shown from computer simulation that the proposed learning model is more effective than the existing learning model.

  • Partial dominant pruning(PDP) is regarded as the most practical scheme, reducing redundant messages arisen in broadcasting over ad hoc networks, in such a way that only part of nodes are allowed to forward the received broadcast message. In this paper we propose an extend PDP version called DPDP(directional PDP) such that it reduces not only the number of selected forward nodes, but also the number of antenna elements deployed by the forward nodes. It turns out through simulation that as the number of antenna elements increases, the number of selected forward nodes by DPDP slightly outnumbers that obtained using PDP but both the number of antenna elements deployed by the forward nodes and the redundancy ratio of the received message per node always outperform respectively those given by PDP.

  • In this paper, we propose two different types of cooperative transmission protocols, referred to as spatial multiplexing with receive diversity (SMRD), that are bandwidth-efficient. We show that the BER performance can be significantly improved with a proper design of SMRD protocol under the AF (Amplify-and-Forward) and the DF (Decode-and-Forward) modes of relaying, when there is no interference among all symbols transmitted in the same time slot. BER analysis and our simulation result show that the proposed transmission protocol achieves a significant gain over no-cooperation (direct transmission) without any bandwidth expansion.

  • This paper introduces a study of a method for the forward kinematic analysis, which finds the 6 DOF motions and velocities from the given six cylinder lengths in the Stewart platform. From the viewpoints of kinematics, the solution for the inverse kinematic is easily found by using the vectors of the links which are composed of the joint coordinates in base and plate frames, to act contrary to the serial manipulator, but forward kinematic is difficult because of the nonlinearity and complexity of the Stewart platform dynamic equation with the multi-solutions. Hence we, first in this study, introduce the linear estimator using the Luenberger's observer, and the estimator using the nonlinear measured model for the forward kinematic solutions. But it is difficult to find the parameter of the design for the estimation gain or to select the estimation gain and the constant steady state error exists. So this study suggests the estimator with the estimation gain to be learned by the neural network with the structure of multi-perceptron and the learning method using back propagation and shows the estimation performance using the simulation.

  • When the speed of a coaxial rotor helicopter in forward flight increases, the wake skew angle of the rotor increases and consequently the position of the vena contracta of the upper rotor with respect to the lower rotor changes. Considering ambient air and the effect of the upper rotor, this study proposes a nonuniform inflow model for the lower rotor of a coaxial rotor helicopter in forward flight. The total required power of the coaxial rotor system was compared against Dingeldein's experimental data, and the results of the proposed model were well matched. A plant model was also developed from first principles for flight simulation, unknown parameter estimation and control analysis. The coaxial rotor helicopter used for this study was manufactured for surveillance and reconnaissance and does not have any stabilizer bar. Therefore, a feedback controller was included during flight test and parameter estimation to overcome unstable situations. Predicted responses of parameter estimation and validation show good agreement with experimental data. Therefore, the methodology described in this paper can be used to develop numerical plant model, study non-uniform inflow model, conduct performance analysis and parameter estimation of coaxial rotor as well as other rotorcrafts in forward flight.

  • The measurement of RTT (Round Trip Time) can be used for the analysis of Internet congestion. However, simple measuring of RTT which measures only hun around time of a packet can not infer a packet forward/backward delay variation. In this thesis, we present a new algorithm which can be used for the estimation of forward/backward delay variation of packets. These delay variations are implication of network congestion state. In this algorithm, the reference forward/backward delay can be determined based on the minimum RTT value. The delay variation of each packet can be calculated by comparing reference delay with the packet delay. We verified our proposed algorithm by NS-2 simulation and delay measuring in a real network.

  • This paper presents a discrete state-space controller using state feedback control and feed-forward decoupling to provide a desirable control bandwidth and control stability for dynamic voltage restorers (DVR). The paper initially discusses three typical applications of a DVR. The load-side capacitor DVR topology is preferred because of its better filtering capability. The proposed DVR controller offers almost full controllability because of the multi-feedback of state variables, including one-beat delay feedback. Feed-forward decoupling is usually employed to prevent disturbances of the load current and source voltage. Directly obtaining the feed-forward paths of the load current and source voltage in the discrete domain is a complicated process. Fortunately, the full feed-forward decoupling strategy can be easily applied to the discrete state-space controller by means of continuous transformation. Simulation and experimental results from a digital signal processor-based system are included to support theoretical analysis.

  • A novel distributed compress-and-forward (CF) system based on multi-relay network is presented. In this system, as the direct link between the source and destination is invalid due to some reasons, such as the limited power, special working environment, or even economic factors, relays are employed to receive analog signals and carry on distributed compressed encoding. Subsequently, the digital signals are transmitted to the destination via wireless channel. Moreover, a theoretical analysis for the system is provided by utilizing the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) theory and Shannon channel capacity theory, and the rate-distortion function as well as the connection between the transmission rate and the channel capacity are constructed. In addition, an optimal signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) -based power allocation method is proposed to maximize the quantization SNR under the limited total power. Simulation result shows that the proposed CF system outperforms the amplify-and-forward (AF) system versus the SNR performance.

  • In this paper a adaptive LMS(least mean-square) lattice predictor, which is composed of the adaptive lattice algorithm and LMS algorithm by Widrow-Hopf, is used to predict the future air pollution of the extraordinary levels in the environmental system. This prediction algorithm is applied to the one-step forward prediction of atmospheric CO concentration by using real observed data. Computer simulation proves that the power in the forward error sequences decreases as the number of stages in the lattice is increased.

  • Not much work has been carried out on the load flow analysis of distribution networks. This paper introduces Newton-Raphson method using Distflow equation and Forward Sweeping method in the distribution networks. And that efficient solution scheme in a radial distribution network is presented. Also, simulation results of both Newton-Raphson method and Forward Sweeping method applied to a 22.9kV distribution system model with 120 load buses are analized and evaluated.
