  • A rotordynamic analysis was performed with a decant-type centrifuge, which is a kind of industrial centrifuge. The system is composed of screw rotor, bowl rotor, driving motors, gear box, and support rolling element bearings. These rotors have a rated speed of 4300 rpm, and were modeled utilizing a rotordynamic FE method for analysis, which was verified through 3-D FE analysis. Design goals are to achieve wide separation margins of lateral critical speeds, and favorable unbalance responses of the rotor in the operating range. Then, a complex analysis rotordynamic analysis of the system was carried out to evaluate its forward synchronous critical speeds and mode shapes, whirl natural frequencies, and unbalance responses under various balance grade. As a result of analysis, the rotordynamic analysis performed by separating a screw rotor and bowl rotor may cause an error in predicting critical speed of entire system. Therefore, the rotordynamic analysis of a coupled rotor combining a screw and bowl rotor must be performed in order to more accurately estimate dynamic characteristics of the decanter-type centrifuge as presented in this paper. Also, rolling element bearings with suitable stiffness should be selected to keep enough separation margin. In addition, in establishing balance grade of a screw and bowl rotor, ISO G2.5 balance grade is more recommended than ISO G6.3, in particular balancing correction of a screw rotor based on ISO G2.5 grade is strongly recommended.

  • In the recent digital communication systems, the performance of Turbo Code used as the error correction coding method depends on the interleaver size influencing the free distance determination and the iterative decoding algorithms of the turbo decoder. However, some iterations are needed to get a better performance, but these processes require a large time delay. Recently methods of reducing the number of iteration have been studied without degrading original performance. In this paper, the new method of combining ME (Mean Estimate) stopping criterion with SDR (sign difference ratio) stopping criterion among previous stopping criteria is proposed, and the fact of compensating each method's missed detection is verified. Faster decoding is realized that about 1~2 time iterations to reduced through adopting this method into serially concatenated both decoders. System Environments were assumed W-CDMA forward link system with intense MAI (multiple access interference).

  • In this paper, we proposed the biological signal (body heat, pulse, breathe rate, and blood pressure) analysis system using wireless sensor. In order to analyze, we designed a back-propagation neural network system using expert group system. The proposed system is consist of hardware patt such as UStar-2400 ISP and Wireless sensor and software part such as Knowledge Base module, Inference Engine module and User Interface module which is inserted in Host PC. To improve the accuracy of the system, we implement a FEC (Forward Error Correction) block. For conducting simulation, we chose 100 data sets from Knowledge Base module to train the neural network. As a result, we obtained about 95% accuracy using 128 data sets from Knowledge Base module and acquired about 85% accuracy which experiments 13 students using wireless sensor.

  • Information-Centric Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (IC-VANET) is a promising network architecture for the future intelligent transport system. Video streaming applications over IC-VANET not only enrich infotainment services, but also provide the drivers and pedestrians real-time visual information to make proper decisions. However, due to the characteristics of wireless link and frequent change of the network topology, the packet loss seriously affects the quality of video streaming applications. In this paper, we propose a REceiver-Driven loss reCOvery Mechanism (REDCOM) to enhance video dissemination over IC-VANET. A Markov chain based estimation model is introduced to capture the real-time network condition. Based on the estimation result, the proposed REDCOM recovers the lost packets by requesting additional forward error correction packets. The REDCOM follows the receiver-driven model of IC-VANET and does not require the infrastructure support to efficiently overcome packet losses. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed REDCOM improves video quality under various network conditions.

  • Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) transmission is now considered as one of essential techniques enabling high rate data transmissions in wireless communication systems. In addition, severe channel impairments in wireless systems should be compensated by using highly efficient forward error correction (FEC) codes. Turbo codes or low density parity check (LDPC) codes, using iterative decoding with soft decision detection information (SDDI), are the most common examples. The excellent performance of these codes should be conditioned on accurate estimation of SDDI from the MIMO detection process. In this paper, we propose a soft MIMO detection scheme using QR decomposition of channel matrices as an efficient means to provide accurate SDDI to the iterative decoder. The proposed method employed a two sequential soft MIMO detection process in order to reduce computational complexity. Compared to the soft ZF method calculating the direct inverse of the channel matrix, the complexity of the proposed method can be further reduced as the number of antennas is increased, without any performance degradation.

  • The performances of turbo-coded space-time block coding (STBC) schemes are subject to how soft decision detection (SDD) information are generated from the STBC decoder. For this reason, we have to pay particular attention to estimation of SDD. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a turbo coded STBC scheme depending on the accuracy of the SDD. Recently, a new quasi orthogonal STBC (QO-STBC) scheme using a noise whitened filter was proposed in order to reduce noise enhancing effect of zero forcing detection process. This QO-STBC scheme was proven to be efficient in computational complexity compared to the other conventional QO-STBC schemes. In this paper, we first present detailed mathematical analysis on the noise whitened QO-STBC scheme, and by using the result we propose the optimum SDD method.

  • This paper defines QoE (Quality of Experience) for multi-view video streaming service over WiBro and proposes the CLO (Cross-Layer Optimization) algorithm can maximize this. Proposal CLO algorithm contains from physical layer to video layer. Under the time-varying wireless channel condition, the CLO technique takes view-wise and the temporal priority of the multi-view video into consideration in order to decide the transmission of frames and its FEC level. At the handover situation, it is shown through computer simulation that the optimal quality of the multi-view video can be achieved using the minimum amount of resources if the proposed CLO technique is applied.

  • One of the most important topics of recent years is that a multimedia technology such as wireless ATM has been introduced in radio systems for video, voice and data transmission. A major problem in such systems is the occurrence of errors due to multipath fading or interference. To combat this problem, forward error correction (FEC) coding is commonly used as a means of eliminating these errors. This paper has analyzed theoretically the effect of fading to design effective wireless ATM system. The BER, CLR, and CER of wireless ATM system adopting FEC coding and diversity reception techniques have been derived in fading environment. Also, simulations of BER and CLR have been carried out and compared with the above theoretical results.

And improve the accuracy of speech and face recognition, we implement a FEC (Forward Error Correction) system Also, we optimized the simulation coefficient and test environment to effectively remove the wireless channel noises and correcting wireless channel errors. As a result, when the distance that between audio sensor and the source of voice is less then 1.5m FAR and FRR are 0.126% and 7.5% respectively. The face recognition algorithm step is limited 2 times, GAR and FAR are 98.5% and 0.036%.

  • Turbo codes are selected as FEC(Forward error correction) codes with convolution code in 3GFP(3rd generation partnership project) and 3GPP2 standard of IMT2000. Especially, l/3 turbo code with K=4 is employed for 3GPP standard. In this paper, we proposed a hardware structure of a turbo decoder and denveloped the decoder for 3GPP standard turbo code. For its efficient operation, we design a SOVA decoder by employing a register exchange decoding block and new path metric normalization block as a SISO constituent decoder. In addition, we estimate its performance under MATLAB 6.0 and designed the turbo decoder including control block, input control buffer, SOVA constituent decoder with VHDL. Finally, we synthesized the developed turbo decoder under Synopsys FPGA Express and verified it with ALTERA EPF200SRC240-3 FPGA device.
