  • In this study, we performed three-dimensional CFD analysis to investigate the effect of the rotor blade sweep of a partial admission supersonic turbine on the stage performance and the flow field. The computations are conducted for three different sweep cases, No sweep(NSW), Backward sweep(BSW), and Forward sweep(FSW), using flow analysis program, $FLUENT^{TM}$ 6.3 Parallel. The results show that BSW model give the effect on the reducing of mass flow rates of tip leakage and the increasing of t-to-s efficiency.

  • Forcing at the rotor blade passing frequencies is responsible for the majority of vibration related problems on helicopters. Blade passing frequencies of helicopters are generally in the range 10~30 Hz and the interest modes of the helicopters also exist in the range. By the way, the installation of a heavy sensor at the front extremities of an imported helicopter may change the modal characteristics of the airframe and results in the resonance with rotor passing frequencies. To avoid too large a change in the dynamics of the overall airframe, we determined how to install a heavy sensor through conceptual approach and finite element analysis. The results of a ground vibration test for airframe with sensor mount system clearly demonstrate that the installation design is acceptable dynamically.

  • Recently, as a result of the application of large and multi-blade propellers with high efficiency for large vessels, the vertical bending stiffness of propulsion shafting system tends to be declined. For some specific vessels, the shaft arrangement leads to the forward stern tube bearing to be omitted, decreasing vertical bending stiffness. In this respect, decreased vertical bending stiffness causes the problem which is the blade order resonance frequency to be placed within the operational rpm range of propulsion shafting system. To verify whirling vibration, the measurement should be carried out covering from operating rpm up to target rpm, however, the range is un-measurable generally. In order to resolve the measurement issue, this study shows the measuring method and the assessment method of relevant natural frequency of whiling vibration by using measured harmonic order component of whirling vibration.

  • A centrifugal fan design code was developed and packaged together with iDesignFan/sup TM/ as new models. This code generate centrifugal forward curved and backward curved bladed impeller optimally. It also predicts the aerodynamic performance and the overall sound pressure level of the rotating fan by assuming steady blade loading. The overall sound pressure level is used as an input parameter from the third loop of the designing process to acquire the most silent fan for the given aerodynamic performance parameters. With this kind of inverse design concept used in the code, the period of designing a fan is significantly shortened. A centrifugal fan design code, developed in this study and included in iDesignFan/sup TM/, predicts the aerodynamic performance such as design flow rate and static pressure. The aerodynamic performance in the design and off-design conditions is calculated by using the mean line analysis. For the steady loading calculation, the lift force distribution in a blade is used.

  • One of noticeable features in the cross flow fan is that a working fluid passes through impeller blade twice without distinction between the inlet and exit angles. Also, it does produce higher circumferential velocity than other types of blade at the same flow rate in accordance with the application of the forward curved shape. However, a design theory for the cross-flow fan has not yet been formed owing to an eccentric vortex, which is the remarkable characteristics, occurred in a cross-flow fan. Furthermore, the eccentric vortex, which is difficult to control of the size and position, is the important cause of performance decrease. In this study, experiments are carried out to estimate the similarity of the cross-flow fan with various scales and rotational velocity changes. Pressure coefficients to flow coefficients with various scales of the cross-flow fan are plotted to research the application of the general similarity law of the turbomachinery in the cross-flow fan with Archimedes spital, which is the important factor haying an effect on it.

  • Rotor wake causes unsteady aerodynamics of rotor blade. So, accurate prediction of wake is very important and vortex method is good solution for this problem. Aerodynamic force of the rotor blade is calculated by potential panel method and the rotor wake is simulated by vortex particle method. The vortex particle method is easier to treat wake-body interaction and has better performance to expect the effect of ground and fuselage interaction. Rotor in hovering and forward flight condition is simulated through these methods. Thrust and surface pressure of rotor are compared with experiment data.

  • Computational studies on the hydrodynamic behavior of the forward-sweep inducers for the rocket-engine turbopump are presented in comparison with the conventional backward- sweep inducers. In the present study, two kinds of forward-sweep inducers are designed and numerically investigated. Forward-sweep inducers have bigger tip solidity compared to backward-sweep inducers even with shorter axial length due to their forward-sweep leading edge profiles. It is shown that back flows at the inlet decreases dramatically for forward- sweep inducers. And the low pressure region at the back flow are also decreased, which is assumed to promote the suction performance of the inducers. It seems that the hub located upstream of the tip at the leading edge induces pre whirl at the inlet blade tip for the backward sweep inducer. And this pre whirl leads to the big back flow.

  • The objective of this work is to develop improved slip factor model and correction method to predict flow through impeller in forward-curved centrifugal fan by investigating the validity of various slip factor models. Both steady and unsteady three-dimensional CFD analyses were performed with a commercial code tn validate the slip factor model and the correction method. The results show that the improved slip factor model presented in this paper could provide more accurate predictions for forward-curved centrifugal impeller than the other slip factor models since the presented model takes into account the effect of blade curvature. The comparison with CFD results also shows that the improved slip factor model coupled with the present correction method provides accurate predictions for mass-averaged absolute circumferential velocity at the exit of impeller near and above the flow rate of peaktotal pressure coefficient.

  • This study was conducted to develop the leveller suitable for power tiller which has been widely used in Korea. Field test was carried out to determine its performance in accordance with the tilt angles of blede, forward velocities , and the length of blade . The results are follows ; 1. Earth moving capacity of the standard leveller was found to be 90~95kg of soil per one swath while working at the 2nd ~4th gears of forward speed. 2. Work performance of model leveller was 2 , 3, 4 times higher than manual operation in distributing additional soil of thickness 6mm , 12 mm and 24 mm on paddyland, respectively. 3. Levelling performance of model leveller on the inclined fields was 7 ~9 times higher than manual operation.
