  • This study proposes prediction models for the shear strength of steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) and ultra-high-performance fiber reinforced concrete (UHPC) beams using a Bayesian parameter estimation approach and a collected experimental database. Previous researchers had already proposed shear strength prediction models for SFRC and UHPC beams, but their performances were limited in terms of their prediction accuracies and the applicability to UHPC beams. Therefore, this study adopted a statistical approach based on a collected database to develop prediction models. In the database, 89 and 37 experimental data for SFRC and UHPC beams without stirrups were collected, respectively, and the proposed equations were developed using the Bayesian parameter estimation approach. The proposed models have a simplified form with important parameters, and in comparison to the existing prediction models, provide unbiased high prediction accuracy.

  • This paper deals with the superlinear elliptic problem without Ambrosetti and Rabinowitz type growth condition of the form: $$\{-div\((1+\frac{|{\nabla}u|^{p(x)}}{\sqrt{1+|{\nabla}u|^{2p(x)}}}})|{\nabla}u|^{p(x)-2}{\nabla}u\)={\lambda}f(x,u)\;a.e.\;in\;{\Omega}\\u=0,\;on\;{\partial}{\Omega}$$ where ${\Omega}{\subset}R^N$ is a bounded domain with smooth boundary ${\partial}{\Omega}$, ${\lambda}$ > 0 is a parameter. The purpose of this paper is to obtain the existence results of nontrivial solutions for every parameter ${\lambda}$. Firstly, by using the mountain pass theorem a nontrivial solution is constructed for almost every parameter ${\lambda}$ > 0. Then we consider the continuation of the solutions. Our results are a generalization of that of Manuela Rodrigues.

  • This note proposes a robust LQR method for systems with structured real parameter uncertainty based on Riccati equation approach. Emphasis is on the reduction of design conservatism in the sense of quadratic performance by utilizing the uncertainty structure. The class of uncertainty treated includes all the form of additive real parameter uncertainty, which has the multiple rank structure. To handle the structure of uncertainty, the scaling matrix with block diagonal structure is introduced. By changing the scaling matrix, all the possible set of uncertainty structures can be represented. Modified algebraic Riccati equation (MARE) is newly proposed to obtain a robust feedback control law, which makes the quadratic cost finite for an arbitrary scaling matrix. The remaining design freedom, that is, the scaling matrix is used for minimizing the upper bound of the quadratic cost for all possible set of uncertainties within the given bounds. A design example is shown to demonstrate the simplicity and the effectiveness of proposed method.

  • Rotor of rotating machinery is the highly damaged part. Fault of 7 different types was confirmed as the main causes of rotor damage from the pump failure history data in domestic and U.S. nuclear. For each fault types, simulation testing was performed and fault signals were collected form the sensors. To calculate the statistical parameters of time-domain & frequency-domain, measured signals were analyzed by using the discrete wavelet transform, fast fourier transform, statistical analysis. Total 84 parameters were obtained. And Effectiveness factor were used to evaluate the discrimination capacity of each parameter. From the effectiveness factor, RAW-P4/RAW-P7/WT2-NNL/WT2-EE/WT1-P1 showed high ranking. Finally, these parameters were selected as the feature parameters of intelligent fault diagnostics for rotor.

  • since the controller is part or the overall closed-Loop system, it is necessary that the designed controller be able to tolerate some uncertainty in its coefficients. The adequate stability and performance margins are required for the designed nominal controllers. In the paper. we study the method to design the non-fragile fixed-structured controller for real parametric uncertain systems. When we impose the controller parameter perturbation, the structure of the controller must be given. Therefore, we assume that the controller has fixed-structure. The fixed-structure controller is practically necessary especially when the robust controller synthesis results in a high-order controller. In SISO systems, we propose the robust controller design method using the Mapping theorem. In the method, the plant uncertainty and controller Parameter are of the multilineal form in the stability and performance conditions. Then, the controller synthesis problem is easily recast to Linear Programming Problem.

  • Many articles have considered a hybrid censoring scheme, which is a mixture of Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes. We introduce a double hybrid censoring scheme and derive some approximate maximum likelihood estimators(AMLEs) of the scale parameter for the half logistic distribution under the proposed double hybrid censored samples. The scale parameter is estimated by approximate maximum likelihood estimation method using two different Taylor series expansion types. We also obtain the maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) and the least square estimator(LSE) of the scale parameter under the proposed double hybrid censored samples. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error. The simulation procedure is repeated 10,000 times for the sample size n = 20(10)40 and various censored samples. The performances of the AMLEs and MLE are very similar in all aspects but the MLE and LSE have not a closed-form expression, some numerical method must be employed.

  • In this paper, a parameter estimation method of linear systems with bounded output disturbances is studied. The bound of the disturbances is assumed to known Weighting factors are proposed to modify LS(Least Square) algorithm in the parameter estimation method. The conditions of weighting factors are given so that the estimation method has good convergence properties. This condition is more relaxed form than other known conditions. The compensation term in the estimation equations is represented by a function of the output prediction error and this function should lie in a specified region on x-y plane to satisfy these conditions of weighting factors. A set of weighting factor is selected and an algorithm is proposed using this set of weighting factor. The proposed algorithm is compared with another existing algorithm by simulation and its performance in parameter estimation id discussed.

  • This paper suggests a novel evaluation scheme of protective effectiveness in distribution systems. The adequacy of every parameter in a protective device is evaluated for the setting or correction rules. Then, the protective effectiveness of a device, device-wise effectiveness, is obtained by the combination of the parametric evaluation results. The coordination-wise effectiveness between devices can be calculated by evaluating the parameters which contribute the performance of coordination. The protective effectiveness of the whole system can be obtained by combining the device-wise and coordination-wise effectiveness values. The rules, in this paper, are categorized into three groups; rules for single parameter, rules for coordination between parameters, and rules for coordination between protective devices to form a hierarchical calculation model. The proposed method is applied to a typical distribution network to show its effectiveness.

  • This paper presents a discrete adaptive observer for MIMO system of an IM model in DQ reference model. The IM model in the stationary frame is discretized and it is transformed into the canonical observer form. The unknown parameter is choosen as rotor speed. The adaptive law for parameter adjustment is obtained as a set of recursive equations which are derived by utilizing an exponentially weighted normalized least-square method. The proposed adaptive observer converges rapidly and is also shown to track time-varying plant parameter quickly. Its effectiveness has been demonstrated by computer simulation.

  • Vector control schemes are used in inverter-fed induction motor drives to obtain high performance. Crucial to the success of the vector control scheme is the knowledge of the instantaneous position of the rotor flux. However, the position of the rotor flux change with temperature and magnetic saturation of the motor. This variation cause deterioration of both steady state and dynamic operation of the motor drives. Performance degradation is in the form of input-output torque nonlinearity and saturation of the motor. Analytic expressions are derived to evaluate the effects due to parameter sensitivity. Also, dynamic response is shown by speed command with the variation of stator and rotor resistance.
