Purpose - On the basis of knowledge transfer theory, we empirically explored how three types of human resource (HR) innovation knowledge exchange within a Chaebol drive the global subsidiary performance of the headquarters (HQ) of a Chaebol's globally affiliated companies. Design/methodology - Using a sample of 176 Korean HQ firms of the top 53 Chaebols and 1,061 of their foreign manufacturing subsidiaries (n = 1,061), we tested the relationship between the exchange of explorative and exploitative sustainable HR innovation knowledge among HQ firms of Chaebols, their subsequent transfer of technical HR knowledge via technical schemas, and the subsequent impact on the global subsidiary performance. Findings - The Chaebols' decisions about the three strategic knowledge management options (i.e., the degree of exchange of explorative and exploitative technological HR innovation knowledge and the extent of HQ-subsidiary HR knowledge transfer) have highly significant relationships with the global subsidiary performance. The results help explains the conditions under which the explorative versus exchange of exploitative sustainable HR innovation knowledge pays off by showing the moderating role of the degree of HQ-to-subsidiary technical HR knowledge transfer, at least in the case of the Chaebol as one representative type of the emerging-market business groups. Originality/value - As the first of its kind in the field of sustainable HR innovation knowledge management at the business group level, the present study makes a clear contribution in demonstrating how the performance of Chaebols' manufacturing subsidiaries depends greatly on their strategy for management of knowledge, as reflected in the choices they make about sharing both explorative and exploitative sustainable HR innovation knowledge among HQ firms and the subsequent transfer of HQ's sustainable HR innovation knowledge to the foreign subsidiaries.

This study was conducted to provide fundamental data for the Korean food service industry by researching the awareness and consumption tendencies of 180 domestic foreign residents towards Korean meat dishes. The results showed differences in the preferred types of food depending on gender; men tended to like meats, followed by stews, and rice, whereas women tended to like meats, followed by rice, and stew. The foreigners who participated in this research dined at Korean restaurants at least 20 times per month on average, regardless of their place of residence. Dishes with the lowest intake were suyuk (boiled meat, 66.7%) and dakbokkeumtang (sauteed chicken stew, 67.8%) and dishes with the highest intake tended to be roasts, which are relatively easier to prepare. The types of preferred food were in the order of galbi, bulgogi, and dakgalbi, and the least favored foods were yukgaejang, followed by suyuk, and seollengtang. "It is delicious" was the response found most frequently as a reason for preference regardless of the type of meat dish, and the reason for distaste was: "It is not delicious" This demonstrated that taste was the most important factor when visiting a Korean restaurant. Unexpectedly, sirloin roast, beef galbi stew, chicken stew, samgyetang, and dakbokumtang were not favored because of unfamiliar aroma and taste. In the case of galbi, "It is not very sanitary" was the main factor in responses. For areas of improvement, food sanitation, meat smells left on clothes, and smoke generated during roasting were factors with a high degree of importance, whereas the use of gas burners and the blackening of bowls were found to have a lower degree of importance.

Purpose: This study was to investigate the dentists' experience and awareness of foreign body ingestion and aspiration during dental prosthetic treatment. Materials and Methods: A survey of 157 dentists working at 108 dental institutions in Daejeon and Chungcheong provinces was carried out and frequency analysis was conducted. Chi-square test was conducted to find out the difference between the sociodemographic data and experience of foreign body ingestion and aspiration of patients and independent sample t-test was conducted to find out the difference in awareness depending on whether receiving related education. Results: The percentage of dentists experiencing dropping foreign body into patients' oral cavity was 99.4% and the percentage of dentists experiencing foreign body ingestion and aspiration of patients was 53.5%. There were more dentists who experienced foreign body ingestion and aspiration of patients in male than female, longer working career, and general practitioners than specialists (P < .05). 50.3% of the respondents received related education. When they receive related education, they had low degree of concern, high confidence in coping with situations, and low willingness to receive education in the future (P < .05). Conclusion: The percentage of foreign body dropping was 16% higher in prosthetic treatment than general treatment. The percentage of dentists with experience of foreign body ingestion and aspiration of patients was 53.5%. Among them, 92.9% experienced foreign body ingestion of patients and 7.1% of them experienced foreign body aspiration of patients.

This research investigated the effects of university library users' use patterns and their recognition of service benefits on the magnitude of service value assessments derived from users' statements using contingent valuation method (CVM). Library users' use patterns were operationalized by the number of library visits, library website visit counts and the degree of dependence on their own libraries. User benefits variables were measured by the level of satisfaction on the benefits of library use for teaching & instruction, research & writings, and employment & external activities. University library services were divided into circulation, journal articles (domestic & foreign), reference service, user education, reading room service and WTPs for each service were measured. The results from hypotheses testing show that the number of library visits affect WTP amounts for circulation, foreign article use, reference service and user education. The degree of library dependence seems to affect WTP amounts for circulation and user education. With regards to the hypotheses related to the recognition of library service benefits, the degree of satisfaction for teaching & instruction benefits seems to affect WTP amounts for reading room use.

Climatic zone in building code is an administrative district classification reflecting regional climatic characteristics. Use of Degree-Days is a fundamental method that can be used in various building design codes, analysis of building energy performance, and establishment of minimum thermal transmittance of building envelopes. Many foreign countries, such as the USA, the EU, Australia, Italy, India, China, etc., have already adapted climatic zone classification with degree-days, precipitation or amount of water vapor based on the characteristics of their own country's climate. In Korea, however, the minimum requirements for regional thermal transmittance are classified separately for the Jungbu area, Nambu area and Jeju Island with no definite criterion. In this study, degree-days of 255 Korean cities were used for climatic zone classification. Outdoor dry-bulb temperature data from the Korea Meteorological Administration for 1981~2010 was used to calculate degree-days. ArcGIS and the calculated degree-days were utilized to analyze and visualize climatic zone classification. As a result, depending on the distribution and distinctive differences in degree-days, four climatic zones were derived : 1) Central area, 2) Mountain area of Gyeonggi and Gangwon provinces, 3) Southern area, and 4) Jeju Island. The climatic zones were suggested per administrative district for easy public understanding and utilization.

This study is made as part of an attempt to explore the citation dependency in the field of Korean sociology. 213 articles by 136 authors in by The Korean Sociological Association issued in $2001{\sim}2005$ were surveyed and their 10,172 references were analyzed. Main research results are as following : 1) Researchers in this field are fairly foreign literature oriented, and problem interest (sources of research ideas) was deriving from domestic literature, but theoretical resources was depending on foreign literature almost. 2) The foreign citation dependency of 'Foreign Doctor' appeared greatly higher than that of 'Domestic Doctor', therefore, the country of doctor' degree and the citation dependency was close correlation. 3) Foreign citation dependency appeared high even research to Korea society.
Opening domestic market to international trade may enhance not only actual competition but also potential competition from foreign competitors. It seems that the competition authority has focused mainly on the actual competition (measured by the current market share) and has paid less attention to the potential competition. In this regards, this paper investigated the relation between potential foreign competition and domestic market structure. Using dynamic panel regression model, we analyzed the dynamic response of import penetration to the changes of domestic market condition in Korea as a proxy for the degree of potential foreign competition. The empirical results suggests that potential foreign competition does exist in the Korean manufacturing sector and this tendency is more stronger when the market is more concentrated. Thus, in order to effectively implement competition policy, it is necessary to consider both actual and potential competition.

This research focuses on the case studies for operating scheme of technology venture incubation centers located at science parks, technology parks, and foreign universities. Technology venture incubation centers in foreign countries commonly vitalize local economy, create job markets, and promote new venture industry. There is a distinct difference in many ways between foreign and domestic incubation centers. Foreign countries consider the position of incubation centers at national policy level. They characterize the operation of incubation centers into technology fields. They install the networks cooperating with experts and promote the management. Tenant companies moved in incubation centers enhance the degree of completion through industry-university cooperation. Universities and research centers utilize the results of R&D to make the business, accelerate to venture establishment with technical skills, and foster technology entrepreneurs by spin-offs. Through case studies we propose implications helpful to manage domestic technology incubation centers and management methods to be successful centers.
The local governments have utilized overseas offices of businesses within their jurisdiction as a forward operating base to discover and expand the overseas market. In addition, overseas offices of businesses are expected to play a big role in economic, cultural, and personal exchange, and collection of information regarding overseas market trends. Recently, inviting foreign capital, promoting cities, and attracting foreign tourists are being done through them. Since foreign capital invitation has an effect on creating jobs, the population influx, increasing local government revenues, there is a high degree of competition for it among local governments. Also, while local governments have set out to actively attract foreign tourists through city promotion marketing and developing products in connection with their region, overseas offices of businesses are playing a major role in doing the job. However, due to low performance satisfaction against the budget invested, there have been criticisms that they need to improve efficiency. As a result, each local government is faced with a task to seek efficient operational plans since overseas offices of businesses in each local government are expected to play a bigger role in trade support and international exchanges.

Internationalization of SMEs has gathered pace in recent times with falling trade barriers and rising world trade encouraging small firms to seek profits and growth in foreign markets. This has attracted the attention of researchers, and several studies have been conducted in Western nations on the factors influencing the process of SME internationalization. However, hardly any study has been done on SME internationalization in the Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) region, thus leaving a gap in the literature. This study investigates the influence of four factors, namely, human capital, network competency, entrepreneurial orientation, and market volatility on the degree of internationalization of SMEs in Oman. The study employs survey data collected from 150 SME owners and managers using a structured questionnaire having 27 items, and has been analyzed using correlation and logistic regression, as the dependent variable is binary in nature. The results reveal the impact of the chosen variables on the degree of internationalization of SMEs. The findings of the study suggest that network competency has the highest impact on degree of internationalization of Omani SMEs, followed by human capital and entrepreneurial orientation, while market volatility, though insignificant, moderated the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation and degree of internationalization of Omani SMEs.
