  • The differential gear system is a device designed to distribute the driving force of both vehicle wheels and control the rotational speed when the vehicle turns on a curve. The differential device consists of a differential gear case, a ring gear, and a pressure ring. A differential pinion gear and side gear are mounted on the differential pinion shaft inside the differential gear case. In this study, a pin press-fitting device that mounts the pinier gear and side gear to the differential pinion shaft in the differential gear case was designed, and a jig device for pin press-fitting using servo press was developed. In addition, by precisely measuring the pin press-in load and press-in distance according to the pin hole diameter of the differential gear shaft, the optimization of the pin pressin process was established.

  • Structural health monitoring is used to ensure the well-being of civil structures by detecting damage and estimating deterioration. Wind flow applies external loads to high-rise buildings, with the horizontal force component of the wind causing structural displacements in high-rise buildings. This study proposes a deep learning-based predictive model for measuring lateral displacement response in high-rise buildings. The proposed long short-term memory model functions as a sequence generator to generate displacements on building floors depending on the displacement statistics collected on the top floor. The model was trained with wind-induced displacement data for the top floor of a high-rise building as input. The outcomes demonstrate that the model can forecast wind-induced displacement on the remaining floors of a building. Further, displacement was predicted for each floor of the high-rise buildings at wind flow angles of 0° and 45°. The proposed model accurately predicted a high-rise building model's story drift and lateral displacement. The outcomes of this proposed work are anticipated to serve as a guide for assessing the overall lateral displacement of high-rise buildings.

  • Although the Inertial Measurement Unit is applied to a variety of applications such as ships, submarines, and aircrafts, it is mainly used in the attitude measurement area. But since such equipment is expensive, it has been used only in special fields. In this study, the ship's seaworthiness is verified by measuring the speed, direction, gravity, and acceleration of the ship in real time using a low-cost Inertial Measurement Unit. A research method for estimating fIuid force coefficients was devised. Therefore, this study measured ship motion factors at sea, processed and analyzed the measured data, and evaluated the overall safety of the ship and estimated the resistance and steering performance of the ship.

  • The impact of raindrops on the soil surface causes soil detachment, which may be estimated by measuring the kinetic energy (KE) of the raindrops. Since direct measurements of rainfall force on ground surfaces are not generally available, empirical equations are an alternative option to estimate KE from rainfall intensity (I), which has the greatest influence over soil erosion and is easily accessible. Establishing the optimal formulation for the relationship between kinetic energy and rainfall intensity has proven to be difficult. Thus, this research considered thirty-seven rainfall events observed from June 2020 to December 2021 using a laster optical disdrometer erected in Kyungpook National University to examine the characteristics of KE-I relationships. We concentrated our discussion on the formation of two different expressions of the KE, including KE expenditure (KEexp) and KE content (KEcon). The following conclusions were drawn: (1) We employed statistical analysis to demonstrate that the KEexp is more suitable expression for establishing an empirical rule between KE and I than the KEcon. (2) A power-law model was used to find the best correlation between KEexp-I relationship, whereas the best match between KEcon and I were found using an exponential equation.

  • Purpose: The current study examined the retention and wear resistance of stud-type attachments made of high-performance polyetheretherketone (PEEK) or polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) from the polyaryletherketones (PAEKs) family. Methods: The study sample included 10 PEEK or PEKK attachments that were mounted onto their male parts, designed on the upper aspect of the attachment, with a load of 30 N. Tensile stress was applied using an Instron machine to separate the male and female parts, and the maximum tensile stress to be applied was determined based on the retention force observed. The wear resistances of PEEK and PEKK were evaluated by measuring the inner diameter of the inserted female part 10 times. Results: The maximum tensile stresses of PEEK and PEKK were 56.26±0.58 and 69.12±0.92 N, respectively, with the maximum stress required to remove the PEKK specimens from the abutment being 12.86 N higher than that required to remove the PEEK specimens. Furthermore, PEKK exhibited higher wear resistance than PEEK. Conclusion: This study evaluated custom-made removable implant-retained attachment components for overdentures, wherein the female parts were made of PEEK or PEKK. The retention stress and wear resistance were evaluated based on the type of attachment material, and the results showed that both types of attachment inserts demonstrated clinically acceptable results in terms of retention.

Reaping Training & Measuring in Judo.Korean Jiurnal of Sport Biomechanics, Vol. 18, No. 1, pp. 213-226, 2008. The purpose of this study was to develop a judo-doll uke(partner : doll-uke) for training and measurement applicable to pulling, pushing and reaping in judo. In Judo the most common techniques consist of the pulling, pushing and sweep which all need to be practiced with a partner. So the research needs to develop a measurement system that can be used to evaluate the forces involved with these techniques. Also the Doll-Uke must be developed so that judokas can train alone. After the manufacture of Doll-Uke the usefulness of it must be evaluated. The height of a Doll-Uke is l70cm and its weight is 50kg. Doll-Uke was developed with a trunk angle of 55 and the lower extremities of an angle of 45. The Doll-Uke can also measure the forces developed during the pulling, pushing and sweep. Due to the ability of the system to measure the forces while preforming Judo techniques feedback can be provided to the Judokas to improve their performance.

  • The effect of stabilizing piles on cut slopes is checked and the behavior of slope soil and piles are observed throughout the year by field measurements on the large-scale cut slopes. First of all, the behavior of the slope soil was measured by inclinometers during slope modification. Landslides occurred in this area due to the soil cutting for slope modification. The horizontal deformations of slope soil are gradually increased and rapidly decreased at depth of sliding surface. As the result of measuring deformation, the depth of sliding surface below the ground surface can be known. Based on the measuring the depth of the sliding surface, some earth retention system including stabilizing piles were designed and constructed in this slope. To check the stability of the reinforced slope using stabilizing piles, an instrumentation system was installed. As the result of instrumentation, the maximum deflection of piles is measured at the pile head. It is noted that the piles deform like deflection on a cantilever beam. The maximum bending stress of piles is measured at the soil layer. The pile above the soil layer is subjected to lateral earth pressure due to driving force of the slope, while pile below soil layer is subjected to subgrade reaction against pile deflection. The deflection of piles is increased during cutting slope in front of piles for the construction of soil nailing. As a result of research, the effect and applicability of stabilizing piles in large-scale cut slopes could be confirmed sufficiently.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of grooved abutments on abutment screw loosening. Materials and methods: This study was conducted to evaluate the abutment screw loosening after 6 months for 50 patients (51 implants) treated at the department of Prosthodontics in Yonsei University Dental Hospital from March, 2015 to July, 2015. A control group with non-grooved abutment consists of 30 implants, and an experimental group with grooved abutment consists of 21 implants. Astra, Straumann, Implantium, Osstem system were used in the study. The abutments with loose screws cases after a period of 6 months has been investigated, with two kinds of measurements: 1) measuring the additional rotational angle on abutment during placement with the same force, 2) measuring the PTV on bucco-cervical area of implant crown. All data collected has been analyzed by normality test followed by Mann-Whitney test using SPSS program. Results: No complications were reported after 6 months for the 51 implants. Abutment screw loose and crown fracture have not been seen in the study groups. The data collected from the two measurements showed no significant differences between the two groups with P-value 0.576 (average= control group: $7.35^{\circ}$, experimental group: $4.75^{\circ}$) for the additional rotational angle measurement and with P-value 0.767 for PTV. Conclusion: There are no significant differences between the grooved and non-grooved abutment in screw stability. However, further studies with long-term followups and larger group of patients is needed in order to investigate the effects of grooved abutment on screw stability.

  • The ion selective microelectrode (ISME) has been used for measuring the ion profile of DO, $NH_4{^+}-N$, $NO_2{^-}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ in biofilm. In this study we evaluated the detection limit and validity of ISME and applied ISME for the continuous measurement of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ concentration in the modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) process. Average detection limits of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ ISME were $10^{-4.44}M$ and $10^{-4.62}M$, respectively. Since the ISME with $5{\sim}10{\mu}m$ of tip diameter showed a faster response time than that of $1{\sim}5{\mu}m$, the ISME with a tip diameter of $5{\sim}10{\mu}m$ was fabricated and used to make real-time ion detections. Direct monitoring of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ concentrations in the aerobic (2) tank causes the instability of the electromotive force (EMF) for the initial 5~8 hours and also causes remarkable error values of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ concentration. This phenomenon is caused by aeration and mixing in the reactor. Thus, the measuring chamber was newly designed for the aerobic (2) tank and then the EMF of the ISME were stabilized in less than 1 hour. Errors of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ concentration were decreased after stabilization of the EMF. The ISME analysis were well corresponded to the results of auto analyzer and ion chromatography. Consequently, the concentration of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3{^-}-N$ could be continuously measured for 178 hours by the ISME.

  • Electrochemical properties of Georgia kaolinite in aqueous suspension were studied by ion adsorption, potentiometric titration, and electrophoretic mobility measurements. Kaolinite in 0.001 M and 0.1 M NaCl solution showed qualitatively both pH independent and pH depender negative and positive charges through pH range 2.5-11.0 when dissolved aluminum ions from kaolinite were considered as well as $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ as index ions. Electrophoretic mobilities (EM) of 0.02 wt. % kaolinite suspension in distilled water and 0.001 M NaCl solution were approximately constant against mobility measuring time consumed in the electrophoresis cell at different pH values, and isoelectric points(IEP) were around pH 4.7. EM values in 0.1 M NaCl solution were positive and constant against mobility measuring time below pH 4; but above pH 4, EM values were negative for the first 10 seconds followed by positive values which became approximately constant through stepped changes after 10 minutes. Hydrated cations may bind to the six- member oxygen ring sites having multiple partial negative charges on the exterior tetrahedral layer surface by both electrostatic and hydrogen bonding force while hydrated anions bind to the partially positively charged hydrogen atoms on the exterior octahedral layer surface. Parts of the aluminol groups on the exterior octahedral layer surface as well as edge faces may be involved in complex reactions and have both anion and cation exchange capacities in the electrolyte solution above pH 4.
