This study was conducted to investigate the inflorescence habit mainly on major in farmer's peanut cultivar of the Shinpung plant type "Daekwang" of sequential branching and the Virginia plant type "Daepung" of alternate branching until maximum flowering dates. All flowers of two pairs of opposite branch in "Daekwang" showed almost symmetrical flowering order and in "Daepung" also showed similar tendency though it had somewhat irregalar alternate branching type in opposite branches. The lowest node in each branch had seven flowers while upper nodes had less flowers in this period. The first flower in "Daekwang" was born at first node of second branch of cotyledonary branches compared to those of "Daepung" at first reproductive branch of cotyledonary branches. One pair of cotyledonary branches had two-thirds of total flowers in two cultivars. Dates of average flower proceeding between nodes in each branch of "Daekwang" were appeared 4.32 days in main axil, 1st and 2nd opposite primary branches were 4.44 and 5.13 days, and 1st and 2nd secondary branches were 5.81 and 6.41 days respectively, but "Daepung" showed similar flower proceeding dates in all branches. but "Daepung" showed similar flower proceeding dates in all branches.
A new Phalaenopsis cultivar 'Little Dew' has been developed by a cross breeding and a line selection at the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongnam ARES from 2000 to 2007. Characteristics trials for this cultivar was carried out three times from 2004 to 2006. 'Little Dew' developed from a cross between Phal. 'Timothy Christopher' and Phal. amabilis showed white miniature type flowers and a multiflora shape. It has 3~4 flower stalks and many flowers, and long life span of flowers. This new cultivar was registered for commercialization in 2007 and would be cultured well in greenhouse conditions in Korea.
Aruncus L. is a small genus which is distributed in the circumpolar regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Europe, Asia, and North America. In Korea, there are two taxa, A. dioicus var. kamtschaticus and A. aethusifolius. Aruncus aethusifolius is a species endemic to Korea, occurring only on Jeju Island. An important characteristic of Aruncus is dioecy. However, there is some controversy regarding the sexuality of this genus, and little is known about A. aethusifolius. To characterize the sexuality of A. aethusifolius and to provide insight into the evolution of its sexual system, we investigated natural populations and herbarium specimens of A. aethusifolius. The results indicate that the species has carpellate, staminate, and bisexual flowers. Carpellate flowers are always borne on separate individuals, and staminate flowers are borne either on separate individuals or mixed with bisexual flowers on the same individuals. The sexuality of A. aethusifolius is defined as polygamo-dioecious. The polygamo-dioecious type is also found in A. dioicus var. dioicus and A. dioicus var. kamtschaticus and thus may be a general condition in Aruncus.
Background: Mixed breeding herb Viola collina Besser, which produces both chasmogamous and cleistogamous flower, has limited habitats under closed canopy and short and early flowering timing, making it relatively more vulnerable to climate change. To better understand the effect of light and nutrient on the flower formation and vegetative growth of V. collina, a mesocosm experiment was conducted. Two-by-two factorial treatments of two light conditions (100% and 60% of natural light) and two fertilizer treatment conditions (fertilized and not fertilized) were applied in the mesocosm experiment. Results: The number of flowers, including chamogamous and cleistogamous flowers, was highest (5.65/pot) under 60% light and fertilized condition and lowest (1.41/pot) under 100% light and not-fertilized condition. However, above ground vegetative growth was highest (2.89 g/pot) under 100% light and fertilized condition and lowest (2.38 g/pot) under 60% light and not-fertilized condition. Above ground biomass to belowground biomass ratio was highest (1.50) under 60% light and fertilized condition and lowest (1.26) under 100% light and fertilized condition. Conclusions: This study showed that high light and nutrient are responsible for the vegetative growth, though the effect of fertilizer was reduced due to allocation and retainment of nutrients. In addition, the low light is necessary to make flowers, especially chasmogamous flowers.
The concepts of phylogeny and floral genetics play a crucial role in understanding the origin and diversification of flowers in angiosperms. Angiosperms evolved a great diversity of ways to display their flowers for reproductive success with variations in floral color, size, shape, scent, arrangements, and flowering time. The various innovations in floral forms and the aggregation of flowers into different kinds of inflorescences have driven new ecological adaptations, speciation, and angiosperm diversification. Evolutionary developmental biology seeks to uncover the developmental and genetic basis underlying morphological diversification. Advances in the developmental genetics of floral display have provided a foundation for insights into the genetic basis of floral and inflorescence evolution. A number of regulatory genes controlling floral and inflorescence development have been identified in model plants such as Arabidopsis thaliana and Antirrhinum majus using forward genetics, and conserved functions of many of these genes across diverse non-model species have been revealed by reverse genetics. Transcription factors are vital elements in systems that play crucial roles in linked gene expression in the evolution and development of flowers. Therefore, we review the sex-linked genes, mostly transcription factors, associated with the complex and dynamic event of floral development and briefly discuss the sex-linked genes that have been characterized through next-generation sequencing.

This study aimed to provide basic data on current trends in floriculture through a survey. The exhibitors' purposes and items displayed at the Tokyo International Flowers & Plants Expo in 2017 were surveyed. The survey was conducted among 238 exhibitors during the exhibition period from October 11 to 13, 2017. As a result, participants came from 14 countries including Belgium, China, Colombia, Japan, Korea and France. The purposes of the majority of the surveyed exhibitors were to display cultivars (86 exhibitors, 36.3%), followed by to display merchandise, subsidiary materials and cultivation techniques. Among cultivars, pot plants accounted for the majority of the entire cultivars (54 exhibitors, 55.1%), followed by cut flowers (35 exhibitors, 35.7%), sapling, and seeds. The most of the displayed pot plants were ornamental plants (27 exhibitors, 43.5%), followed by garden trees, ground cover plants, bedding plants and succulent plants. The most of the displayed cut flowers were rose (8 exhibitors, 21.1%), followed by lisianthus, chrysanthemum and dahila. In terms of cultivation techniques, those using moss were displayed by 7 exhibitors (50%) and green-wall techniques were displayed by 6 exhibitors (42.9%). In terms of merchandise, processed products were displayed by 21 exhibitors (41.2%), followed by floral products. Therefore, the IFEX can be used as a place to understand current trends in the floriculture market.
Several kinds of yeasts from fruits and flowers of orchard in Yesan-gun of Chungcheongnam-do, Korea were isolated and identified by comparison of nucleotide sequences for PCR-amplified D1/D2 region of 26S rDNA using BLAST. Fourty eight yeast strains of twenty five species and one hundred eight yeast strains of fourty eight species were isolated from fruits and flowers of orchard in Sinam-myeon of Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, respectively. Among total one hundred fifty-six yeast strains, only sixteen species were overlapped from fruits and flowers.

This study was conducted to investigate the utilization of cut pear branches for dyeing materials, and the dyeability of pear flowers for pressed flowers using red, orange, and green edible pigments. There was a significant difference of E values among 0.1, 0.5 and $1.0{\%}$ diluted solutions of edible pigments for the cut pear branches coming into flowers. In the higher concentrations of dyeing solutions and the longer dyeing periods, a values with the red pigments increased from 2.37 to 31.22, b values with the orange pigments increased from 7.04 to 45.85, and a - values with the green pigments increased from -3.88 to -36. Bloomed pear branches were immersed in diluted solutions with red, orange and green pigments for forty five minutes. Pear branches immersed in $0.1{\%}$ and $0.5{\%}$ diluted solutions bloomed normally, and each of the flowers were dyed in the colors of the dyeing solutions, respectively. The dyeability of the bloomed pear branches immersed in water and dyeing solutions for one hundred and twenty minutes decreased compared with those treated with red, orange and green pigments and dyed immediately. The dyeability of flowers for the cut pear branches dyed immediately after cutting was significantly increased compared with that immersed in water and dyeing solutions.

This study was carried out to investigate growth and morphological characteristics of leaf, flower and winter bud of Corylopsis species such as C. coreana, C. spicata, C. sinensis, C. willmottiae, C. willmottiae 'Spring Purple', C. wilsonii, C. spicata 'Yellow Spring', C. gotoana, and C. vechiana. In the Corylopsis species, C. coreana, C. willmottiae, and C. vetchiana had larger flowers, longer flower cluster, and more flowers than other species. C. sinensis and C. veitchiana had fragrant flowers. In addition, species with beautiful leaf color were C. spicata 'Yellow spring' with yellow color and C. willmottiae 'Spring purple' with purple color, which eventually changed to green. The winter bud of C. sinensis, C. willmottiae, C. willmottiae 'Spring Purple', and C. vechiana were oval and different from those of other species. Comparison of the morphological characteristics among C. coreana, C. spicata, and C. sinensis, C. coreana showed they had earlier flowering dates and brighter yellow flowers than those of other species. Flower cluster of C. sinensis was shortest, but it had most number of flowers and fragrance. In addition, the winter buds of C. coreana and C. spicata with elliptical shape were different from that of C. sinensis with oval shape. Therefore, based on these characteristics, the following Corylopsis species were found to be promising as woody landscape plants: C. coreana, C. sinensis, C. willmottiae 'Spring Purple', C. spicata 'Yellow Spring', and C. vechiana.

New mobile phones with high tech-camera and a large size memory have been recently launched and people upload pictures of beautiful scenes or unknown flowers in SNS. This paper develops a flower recognition system that can get information on flowers in the place where mobile communication is not even available. It consists of a registration part for reference flowers and a recognition part based on OpenCV for Android platform. A new color classification method using RGB color channel and K-means clustering is proposed to reduce the recognition processing time. And ORB for feature extraction and Brute-Force Hamming algorithm for matching are used. We use 12 kinds of flowers with four color groups, and 60 images are applied for reference DB design and 60 images for test. Simulation results show that the success rate is 83.3% and the average recognition time is 2.58 s on Huawei ALEUL00 and the proposed system is suitable for a mobile phone without a network.
