  • The characteristics of the standard floor impact sources and the human impact source were investigated. First, the mechanical impedance of the each source was evaluated. Second, the impact force exposure levels and impact sounds level driven by the each source were measured. The results showed that the mechanical impedance and impact force exposure level of the impact ball are the most similar to those of the human impact source among the standard impact sources.

  • Floor impact sound insulation performance of floor resilient materials produced by T company were tested in T company's lab. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1) Thickness changes of materials or arrangement order of materials are not much influential in floor impact sound insulation performance. 2) PS sheet and PP sheet upper part location is optimal association in reducing sound at low frequencies. 3) Composition of different form resilient materials' performance is better than that of similar form composition's.

  • Many kind of damping materials are generally used on concrete slab in apartment building to reduce floor impact noise level. Lately, multi-layered damping material that is consist of several materials are used to improve the effect of floor impact noise insulation. In this study, dynamic stiffness of multi-layered damping material that is consist of common materials such as expanded polystyrene(EPS), expended polyethylene(EPE), ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA) and polyester was investigated. It was found that dynamic stiffness of multi-layered damping material could be estimated if know value of each layer that compose whole structure. And it was found that dynamic stiffness of whole structure did not change even if change order that build layer.

  • In this research, the relationship between physical measurements and subjective evaluations of floor impact noise in apartment building was quantified by applying the neural network analysis due to its complex and nonlinear characteristics. The neural network analysis was undertaken by setting up L-value, inverse A index, Zwicker parameters and ACF/IACF factors, as input data, which came from the measurements at real suites of apartment building having various sound insulations. The subjective responses from the psychoacoustic experiments were extracted as output data. Then, the reliability of the quantitative prediction for the subjective loudness was evaluated.

  • The characteristics of noise and vibration by a heavy impact source was studied. The triggering method was used for increasing the reliability and stability to measure the level of sound pressure. sound intensity and vibration acceleration. A simple finite element model and a rigid body analysis method were suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the multi-layer floor system. The results show that the resilient materials decrease the natural frequency of the reinforced concrete slab, make a resonance with dominant driving frequency in the low frequency region, and increase the vibration and noise level. A simple finite element model and rigid body models was suggested to calculate the natural frequencies of the floor systems.

  • In this paper, influence factors on dynamic properties of floor impact noise insulation materials are suggested. For this purpose measurements on the dynamic stiffness and the loss factor of resilient materials are carried out by Korea standard (KS F 2868) according to the change of density, thickness, design pattern, and composition of materials. As a result the values of dynamic stiffness was decreased at high density and thick thickness, and that of loss factor was increased at low density. For dynamic properties, the pattern of lattice and waffle type material is better than that of plat type, and the mixed composition of materials is better than the composition of double layer materials at same thickness.

  • The purpose of this study is to reconsider the rating method for the floor impact sound insulation performance in current criterion. Although there are some arguments about proper standard heavy impact source with reproducibility of actual impact source in residence building, bang machine is adopted as the only standard heavy impact source in domestic criterion. To inspect the rating methods of evaluation criteria, this study conducted vibration test for both of standard heavy impact sources and actual impact sources. Using the test results, the floor impact sound insulation performance levels were assessed by each of several criteria. In addition, low frequency noise beyond current criteria was evaluated. Consequently, the floor impact sound levels have different performance levels according to adopted criteria, and measured floor impact sounds are bound to annoy the neighbors in the low frequency range. Current criteria does not consider the spectrum characteristics of floor impact sound according to impact sources and low frequency noise. This may cause the difference between the floor impact sound insulation performance level and human perception. Thus current criterion needs to be complemented to reflect the spectrum characteristics of floor impact sound levels according to impact sources and sound pressure levels in low frequency range.

  • In an apartment building, the impact sound from upstairs has been regarded as a main source of noise causing discontentment among occupants. To set the optimum design for sound insulation. it is nesessary to suggest the useful tools or technique that predict the floor impact sound. The purpose of this study is to investigate the applicability of the theory of sound radiation. We measured the vibration acceleration levels on the interior structures and predicted the sound pressure level of the room by using them. The result show that the predicted value, in general, were in good agreement with the measured values within 5∼10% in error rate.

  • Damping materials for reducing heavy-weight floor impact noise in reinforced concrete structures were tested in apartment buildings. The effect of damping materials and an impact isolator were compared with an on-site experiment conducted in a high-rise apartment building. The loss factor of damping material analyzed more than 2 times than rubber to $1.5{\sim}2.3$, could know that Damping layer has excellent attenuation performance in side of vibration reduction. The results showed that the resonance frequency increased but vibration acceleration level decreased when the damping materials were used. The heavy-weight impact sound levels of the structure decreased substantially at 63 Hz, whereas the sound levels of the structure with the impact isolator increased.

  • Social noise survey on multiple residential noises such as nut impact, air-borne, bathroom, drainage and traffic noises was conducted to investigate major variables affecting the overall satisfaction for noise environment The effect of individual noise perception on the evaluation of the overall noise environment was investigated through a questionnaire survey on annoyance, disturbance and noise sensitivity. Auditory experiments was also undertaken to determine noise level according to the percent of satisfaction for individual noise source. As a result of survey, it was found that satisfaction for floor impact noise most greatly affects the overall satisfaction for noise environment and annoyance most greatly affects the satisfaction for individual noise sources. Result of auditory experiment showed that the noise level of floor impact noise by bang machine, airborne, drainage and traffic noise corresponding to 50% satisfaction is 44dB($L_{i,Fmax,AW}$) and 40dBA, respectively.
