  • This study aims to present proper thickness of resilient mount and pattern of chips for the improvement of impact sound isolation. To achieve this aim, field tests were performed to evaluate the performance of impact sound isolation of pilot samples using waste tire chips against light and heavy-weight impacter, which samples were installed over concrete slabs of an apartment housing. In this study, the experiments were performed by the impact sound level of floors in KS F 2810 "Method for field measurement of floor impact level". As results, a flooring structure using waste tire chips as a resilient mount, with no relation to chip's types, has enhanced performance by 1~2 degree in light impact sound isolation, while it has improvement in heavy impact sound isolation. And fiber-type chips have better performance than granule-type ones when they overlaid concrete slab with 15~20 mm of thickness. For the improvement of impact sound isolation, it is recommended that insulating materials should be applied at joints between floating floors and walls, or floating floors and a doorframes, and also waterproof papers should be used for the effective thickness of resilient mount.ent mount.

  • The floor impact noise of concrete structures in apartments buildings is affected from the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Accordingly, the measurement of wave propagation characteristics is required for suggestion of efficient method to reduce the impact noise. The purpose of this article is to propose an experimental technique to measure dynamic properties of concrete structures. The method was proposed using the flexural wave propagation characteristics. Wave speeds, bending stiffness and their loss factors are estimated from which the vibration dissipation capabilities are investigated. Several different concrete beam structures were custom-built for measurement. The damping treatments using viscoelastic materials for reducing noise generation are also tested. The beam transfer function of the damped beam is predicted using the compressional damping model from which the mechanism of the vibration energy dissipation is investigated.

  • Notification 2013-611 of MOLIT has come into effect. It relates primarily to new standard impact source. In this study, an in-depth experimental analysis of the difference between a bang machine and an impact ball was performed via field testing of shear wall and flat plate structure at 51 sites. This paper focuses on the difference in single number quantities between a bang machine and an impact ball. At wall thicknesses of 180 and 210 mm in shear wall structure, the single number quantities exhibited differences of 3.1 and 4.5 dB, respectively, and at thicknesses exceeding 250 mm in flat plate structure, the difference was constant at 4.6 dB. With regard to flat plate structures, the single-index difference increased up to 11 dB as the thickness of the floor slab increased. In general, the highest level of contribution for the bang machine was 63 Hz, irrespective of thickness determining bandwidth. The highest level for the impact ball were 63 Hz and 125 Hz. In future research, when reviewing additional field performance measurement data, it will be necessary to consider a detailed examination instead of the current method of uniformly adding 3 dB for all thicknesses and types of structures.

  • Field measurement method of heavy/soft impact sound pressure level which is regulated in JIS and ISO has been using in Korea, Japan and Canada. It is reported that heavy/soft impact sound pressure level was varied by the sound field condition of receiving room such as sound absorption power and room volume. In this study, it is checked that heavy/soft impact sound pressure level was affected by the receiving sound field condition. Rubber ball and bang machine sound pressure level was measured in the vertically connected reverberation chamber. In oder to check the effect of receiving sound field on heavy/soft impact sound pressure, sound absorption power was changed with polyester sound absorption blankets with air space and glass wool. The reverberation time at 1 kHz band was changed from 10 s to 0.2 s by sound absorption material. Rubber ball sound pressure level measured without sound absorption material was 58 dB in $L_{i,Fmax,AW}$, but the level was 46 dB with sound absorption treatment. From this result, it is confirmed that sound field correction method is needed in the heavy/soft impact sound pressure level measurement method using bang machine and rubber ball.

  • Lately concerns about structure have been increased by advantages of floor impact noise, poilitical induction and changeability. Hence, Flat Plate Structure has been constructed increasingly. This study shows the comparison of the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure System and the existing Wall Structure. For this study, taking the same level organization of Daelim Architectural Environmental Research Center, I found the performance of sound insulation between the upper and lower floors about Wall Structure and Flat Plate Structure. Consequently, the performance of sound insulation between upper and lower floors of Flat Plate Structure was 3-5dB higher was approximately 3-5dB higher than one of Wall Structure. Especially, the performance of sound insulation on the upper floor was 1-3dB higher than on the lower floor. In addition, as the result of comparing radiation sound which radiates from the wall of lower floors with each structure system, Flat Plate Structure was about 4dB higher with Rw than Wall Structure. As we see totally, the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure is highter than one of the Wall Structure. It is 3-5dB higher and the main reason for this result depends on the existence of the wall which can radiate sound and nonexistence.

  • Impact sounds, such as those created by footsteps, the dropping of an object or the moving of furniture, can be a source of great annoyance in residential buildings. Running and jumping impact sound by child and walking by adult are one of the most irritating noises in an apartment buildings. It's necessary to know that the impact power characteristics of real impact source in an apartment buildings. This study aims to investigate the impact power and impact time of normal walking and fast walking for 62 adults. It is shown that when the weight of the person increase, the maximum impact power increases. The impact power waveform for the adults walking varies for subjects walking types. The normal walking impact power lower than that of fast walking and impact time is higher than that of fast walking. The range of the impact power generated by adults walking is less than 1000 N.

  • Floor vibrations in residence and office buildings are typically induced by heel drop and walking movement of occupants. The criteria of most vibration provisions have been developed based on the vibration caused by heel drop impact rather than walking. There may be considerable differences between the vibration characteristics induced by walking and heel drop. The effect of walking vibration was not well reflected on current provisions. In this paper, shaking table test was performed to investigate the human perception level against the vibrations due to walking and heel drop. This study attempts to compare the human Perception level of two different vibration sources. Also, this study investigates the effect of damping on a Perception level under heel drop and walking vibration.

  • The auditory experiments based on the subjective annoyance responses were undertaken for the establishment of the adverb modifiers of the heavy-weight impact noises. The standard heavy weight impact noise, impact ball noise and adult walking noise were recorded by dummy head at a newly-built apartment and were presented to the subjects by headphones. The levels of the three impact noises were varied from 30 to 60㏈(A) and the subjects matched one of the adverb modifiers to each level of the noise sources. As a result, seven scale modifiers were established and the intervals between the modifiers were found as equal. In addition, it was found that the lower annoyance noise limits for the heavyweight impact, impact ball and walking were 40-45㏈ (L$\sub$I, Fmax. AW), which is 6㏈ lower than in the previous study. The background noise level was as low as 21㏈(A) in the test booth, therefore, the testing conditions need to be concerned for evaluation of floor impact noise.
