  • CO2 reduction is the most urgent issue the world is facing. So, there should be a measure to reduce the CO2 emission in construction industry which has more released CO2 gas than other industries. CO2 emission of building depend on using energy. Then efficient energy use process working efficiently at CO2 reduction. Therefore In this study, author find the technical possibility of saving the building energy using the PCM which is able to control heat, storage heat and potential heat. So, it considered that apply to floor heating type which is major heating system of living space in Korea. And evaluate the Using possibility.

  • In this study, existing control methods that are suggested or applied until now are classified by control parameters, and stability of in the room and floor surface temperatures of each control method is compared through experiments. Then, the control performance of these control methods are analyzed to evaluate the applicability to Korean apartment housing. From the result of the applicability analysis, the outdoor reset with on/off PWM control is found to be desirable for district heating systems and flux modulation is found to be applicable for decentralized heating systems. In the case of independent control systems for each room, on/off PWM control is desirable.

  • A study was conducted to significantly increase the heat transfer area by simultaneously burying the excel pipe in the floor and wall of a container house, thereby greatly reducing the initial heating time. In addition, a small hot water boiler suitable for the heating load of a small container house with a maximum area of 6 m2 was studied. A wall-mounted hot water boiler was developed as a result of the study. When a hot water boiler is installed outdoors for heating, heat radiation energy is lost in winter from the hot water boiler and hot water pipe due to the low temperature. We propose an approach through which the energy loss was greatly reduced and the temperature of hot water increased in proportion to the operating time. Moreover, as the mass flow rate of the hot water flowing inside the excel pipe increased, the temperature of the hot water decreased. The temperature of the wall and floor surfaces of the container house increased in proportion to the increase in the mass flow rate of hot water flowing inside the excel tube. Natural convection heat transfer was realized from the wall and floor surfaces of the container house, and the heat transfer area was increased by a factor of 3 with respect to heat transfer area limited to the floor by the existing hot water panel. As a result, the initial temperature increase rate was much higher because of the larger heat transfer area.

  • For the many years the children's running noise has caused perpetual frictions between neighbors in apartment houses. For this reason the government established a regulation to reduce the floor impact noise, as a result almost all apartment houses have been enforced to use the floor structure with 210mm thickness concrete slab and 120mm thickness of floor heating system since July 2005. If do not want to apply this kind of system, a system which obtain the certification from the institution appointed by government must be applied. In this reason a lot of construction material companies and construction companies have been trying to develop the system with 180mm thickness concrete slab for the purpose of reducing the cost. To develop the optimized floor system, actual size test building were constructed and the materials related with reducing floor impact noise were composited and tested in the test building. Through this procedure the most effective system was found.

  • This study numerically investigates thermal comfort in a space cooled by the floor-supply air conditioning system, in which three different supply-return locations, one floor supply-ceiling return and two floor supply-floor returns, are treated. A complementary experiment is peformed to validate the present numerical analysis, and the prediction agrees favorably with the measured data. In the numerical procedure, a simplified model mimicking the inlet flow through the diffuser is developed for efficient simulations. The calculated results show that the ceiling return type is far better in thermal comfort than the floor return ones within the extent of this study, which seems to be caused by effective vertical penetration of the supply air against natural convection. It is also revealed that the arrangement of port locations in the floor supply-floor return system has insignificant effect on the cooling performance. For selecting a proper system, other characteristics including the heating performance should be accounted for simultaneously with the present estimation.

  • The aim of the research was to evaluate the characteristics of thermal environment and thermal comfort in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol System. Physical indoor thermal environments (the floor surface temperature, the vertical temperature, etc.) and skin temperature have especially been measured. Physical features conditions, sensation, thermal comfort, humidity sensation, comfort of body were investigated for the survey. As a result, (1) During the operation of the boiler (12 hour), the average indoor temperature is appeared to be $21.6^{\circ}C$. The floor surface temperature showed peak value of $31.4{\sim}40.6^{\circ}C$ after 8hours 30minutes after the start-point of the heating. The vertical difference of temperature was turned out to be not uniform. (2) While the skin temperature showed a narrow distribution of temperature in the Dry Double floors Hydronic Ondol system. (3) The response to thermal comfort which people felt was satisfactory, and most of them felt dry during the test.

  • As structure-borne sound, the floor impact sound is one of the serious noises in residential building. Most of heating system applied to the typical Korean residential building is floor heating system which is called ondol. The ondol usually consists of finishing material, mortar with heating coil, light-weight aerated concrete and reinforced concrete. This study focused on the isolation of heavy-weight impact sound and modification of mortar and light-weight aerated concrete. Specifically the glass foam aggregate was added on light-weight aerated concrete. Also, water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar were revised. The sound pressure level of heavy-weight impact was measured in reverberation chamber using both bang-machine and impact ball. The size of specimen was 1 m by 1 m. Substitution ratio of glass foam aggregate on light-weight aerated concrete shows relationship with heavy-weight impact sound pressure level. In addition, heavy-weight impact sound pressure level was decreased with increment of water-cement ratio and amount of cement on mortar.

  • The following conclusions were obtained with measuring the surface temperature change of woodceramics which were made of MDF to identify usability of using them as a sub-material for heating system when installing Ondol heating floor. For this purpose, woodceramics were burned at the temperature of $650^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ 1. Surface temperature of woodceramics increased with the increase of density of woodceramics, but no significant difference was detected at the surface temperature when burning temperature was changed. 2. Surface temperature change under given temperature increased as time passed and it showed more increase in temperature at the burning temperature of 80$0^{\circ}C$. 3. Surface temperature change with the change in floor temperature increased u hen floor temperature increased and heating mechanism was fast with increase of measuring temperature.

  • The presented work demonstrates the effects of flow rate on the secondary side of DHS (District Heating System). Increasing flow rate at the secondary side of DHS decreases energy consumption and time to reach the set-point of the heated room while increasing heat flux on the floor in the heating space. When flow rate increases, the overall heat transfer rate of radiant floor also increases. However, the results also show overall heat transfer rateto not increased linearly and thus the existence of an optimal flow rate for the secondary side of DHS. Control of the radiant floor with hot water may be more effectively accomplished with a combined control strategy that includes heat flux and a temperature set-point. This experimental analysis has been performed using a lab-scaled DHS pilot plant located at Jeonju University in Korea.

  • One of the most common approaches to achieve better thermal comfort with the radiant floor heating system is supply water temperature control, which is that supply water temperature is varied with outdoor air temperature. But the application of this control method was not easy, because there has been no way to determine the supply water temperature. So in this study, a comprehensive, yet simple calculation method to find out the required supply water temperature is suggested by combining the building heat loss equation and the heat emission model of hydronic radiant floor heating system for single zone. And then using this calculation method, the multizone control method is suggested and confirmed through the thermal simulation. It is shown that indoor air temperature is stably maintained around the set point.
