Recently, with the increase in requirements for marine development, a marine urbanism is being visualized, with more and more huge-scale structures at the scope of the ocean space utilization. In particular, a pontoon-type structure has attracted attention, since The Floating Structures Association of Japan proposed a new concept as the most suitable one of floating airports. The Very Lage Floating Structure (VLFS) is considered a flexible structure, for a quite large length-to-breadth ratio and its geometrical flexibility. The main objective of this study is to makean exact and convenient prediction about the hydro-elastic response on very large offshore structures in waves. The numerical approach for the hydro-elastic responses is based on the combination of the three dimensional source distribution method and the dynamic response analysis method, which assumed a dividing pontoon type structure, as many rigid bodies connected elastic beam elements. The established hydo-elastic theory was applied to the radiation forces caused by motions of a whole structure, formulated using the global coordinate system, which has the origin at the center of the structure. However, in this paper, we took radiation forces, occurred by individual motions of floating bodies, into consideration. The calculated results show good agreement with the experimental and calculated results by Yago.
The abundant nutrients contained in deep seawater are delivered by natural upwellings from the deep sea to the surface sea. However, the natural upwelling phenomenon is limited to specific areas of the sea; in other areas, the thermocline separates the surface sea from the lower layer. Thus, the surface layer is often deficient in nutritive salts, causing the deterioration of its primary productivity and ultimately leading to an imbalance in the marine ecosystem. Without a consistent supply of nitrogenous nutritive salts, they are absorbed by phytoplankton, resulting in a considerable problem in primary productivity. To solve this issue, a floating type of artificial upwelling system is suggested to artificially pump up, distribute, and diffuse deep seawater containing rich nutritive salts. The key technologies for developing such a floating artificial upwelling system are a floating offshore structure with a large diameter riser, self-supplying energy system, density current generating system, method for estimating the emission and absorption of CO2, and way to evaluate the primary production variation. Strengthening the primary production of the sea by supplying deep seawater to the sea surface will result in a sea environment with abundant fishery resources.
Floating structure such as tension leg platform, semi-submersible and spar are widely used in field of oil exploration and renewable energy system. All of these structures have the base cylinder support structure which have effective rule in overall dynamic of response. So the accurate and reliable modeling is needed for optimum design and understanding the physical background of these systems. The aim of this article is an analytical discussion on stochastic modeling of floating cylinder based support structure but an applicable one. Due to this a mathematical mass-damper-spring system of a floating cylinder of HAWAII WTG offshore wind as an applicable and innovative system is adopted to model a coupled degrees using random vibration in analytical way. A fully develop spectrum is adopted to solve the stochastic spectrum analytically by a proper approximation. Some acceptable assumption is adopted. The simplified but analytical and innovative hydrodynamic analysis of this study not only will help researcher to concentrate more physically on hydrodynamic analysis of floating structures but also can be useful for any quick, simplified and closed form analysis of a complicated problem in offshore engineering.

In this study experiments are conducted with a mid-layer type structure. This structure can operate not only at water surface but also in water. Six degrees of freedom oscillations of the structure and mooring force were measured by model experiments. From these experiments, it was shown that the lattice model has two peaks in the surge response curve and the oscillation amplitude and mooring forces increase according to the distance of separation between water level and upper deck.

Pontoon type very large floating structure has been considered and actively studied as one of the most important ocean space utilization. The hydroelastic displacement of the pontoon type floating structure in waves is the largest at its weather side. The purpose of this study is to investigate the characteristics and effects of the submerged horizontal plate which is developed to reduce the wave exciting forces acting on the pontoon type floating structure using numerical analysis. The numerical method based on the finite difference method has been adopted and compared with the experimental data to confirm the reliability of it. We have performed the numerical computation of wave exciting forces acting on the pontoon type floating structure with/without submerged plate and discuss the results of simulation.

According to the current status of marine accidents in Korea, the number of accidents is steadily increasing by an approximate average of 8.5% per year, and marine accidents are steadily increasing for ships and structures such as floating barges, tugboats, ferries and floating platforms except for fishing ships. In this study, domestic floating structures were classified according to the type of floating structure, and the regulation system and the scope of the application of floating marine structures were schematically illustrated according to related domestic laws such as the Ship Safety Act, Ship Act and Fishing Management and Promotion Act. In addition, considering the state of the marine environment, it was intended to discover structurally delicate parts and risk factors early in blinded safety spots in applying domestic regulations, and to derive effective improvement measures for the discovered risk factors.
A coupled analysis of a floating crane barge with a crane wire and hanging structure is carried out in thetime domain. The motion analysis of the crane barge is based on the floating multi-body dynamics, and thecrane wire is modeled as a simple spring tension. The hanging structure is assumed to be a rigid body with 3 degree-of-freedom translational motion. In this study, numerical simulations were conducted at three different stages. First, the developed code was validated by comparing the time-domain motion response of a crane barge with the frequency-domain results. Then, a coupled analysis of a crane barge and simple structure hanging by the crane wire was performed using the present scheme. The motion response and wire tension from the present calculations are compared with the results of OrcaFlex. The agreement between the two sets of results isfairly good. Last, lowering simulations in regular and irregular waves were conducted considering buoyancy changes in the hanging structure. The effects of the wave conditions, structure's weight, wire length, and lowering speed on the wire tension are considered.

New businesses such as marine leisure and floating construction have recently flourished on the coast. As a result, consideration is given to a floating structure appropriate for marine environments. In this study, we applied a damping plate to increase the stability of a hybrid floating structure that was expanded by vertical and horizontal stacking of mobile unit modules. In the numerical analysis using ANSYS AQWA, the behavioral characteristics of the floating structure were analyzed according to the length change of the damping plate. However, the wave forces acting on a floating structure are excessively calculated by the resonance of fluid surrounded by the structure in the numerical analysis using potential flow. Therefore, we used the damping zone option of the ANSYS AQWA in the frequency domain analysis.

This paper describes basic structural design for the large floating crane barge of fixed undulation type. Structural analysis is performed to divide two parts because crane barge is composed two parts, crane part of jib boom back stay and back tower and barge part to support crane part. The structural strength for jib boom structure members are in compliance with JIS B 8821 and scantling of all barge structural members are in compliance with the requirement of KR (Korean Register of Shipping) Steel Barges and Rules for Classification of Steel Ships. For the structural analysis of large floating crane, MSC/NASTRAN & MSC/PATRAN software is used.
