Energy harvesting using an aerodynamic blade element at resonant frequency with air excitation

  • In this research, we propose an energy harvesting structure with a flexible blade element vibrating at its first mode to maximize the power output of the piezoelectric material. For this purpose, a piezoelectric patch was attached on the blade element used in a small-scale wind turbine, and air load was applied with a suitable angle of attack in the stall zone. The aerodynamic load created by air excitation vibrates the blade element in its first natural frequency and maximizes the voltage output of the piezoelectric patch. The variation of power outputs with respect to electrical resistance, air speed, and extra mass is experimentally investigated for various cases. An analytical model is constituted using a single-mode blade element with piezoelectric patch dynamics, and the power outputs of the obtained model are compared with experimental results.

  • Lipocalins are diverse group of small extracellular proteins found in various organisms. In this study, members of 10 non-homologous lipocalin-ligand crystal complex structures were remodeled using rigid and flexible ligand modes to validate the prediction efficiency of molecular docking simulation. The modeled ligand conformations indicated a high prediction accuracy in rigid ligand mode using cluster based analysis for most cases whereas the flexible ligand mode required further considerations such as ligand binding energy and RMSD for some cases. This in silico study is expected to serve as a platform in the screening of novel ligands against lipocalin family of proteins.

  • This paper experimentally demonstrates the feasibility of using shape memory alloy(SMA) actuators in controlling structural vibrations of a flexible cantilevered beam. The dynamic characteristics of the SMA actuator are identified and integrated with the beam dynamics. Three types of control schemes; constant amplitude controller(CAC), proportional amplitude controller (PAC) and sliding mode controller(SMC) are designed. The CAC and PAC are determined on the basis of physical phenomenon of the SMA actuator, while teh SMC is formulated in a mathematical manner. The proposed controllers are implemented and evaluated at various operating condirions by investigating the control level of suppression in transient vibration.

Dosimetric Characteristics of Flexible Radiochromic Film Based on LiPCDA

  • This study aimed to determine the optimal thickness of the active layer and scan mode for a flexible radiochromic film (F-RCF) based on the active lithium salt of pentacosa-10,12-diynoic acid (LiPCDA). F-RCFs of 90, 120, 140, and 170-㎛ thickness were fabricated using LiPCDA. Several pieces of the F-RCFs were exposed to doses ranging from 0 to 3 Gy. Transmission and reflection modes were used to scan the irradiated F-RCFs. Their dose-response curves were obtained using a second-order polynomial equation. Their sensitivity was evaluated for both scanning modes, and the uniformity of the batch was also examined. For both the transmission and reflection modes, the sensitivity increased as the film thickness increased. For the reflection mode, the dose response increased dramatically under 1 Gy. The value of the net optical density varied rapidly as the thickness of the film increased. However, the dose-response curves showed a supralinear-curve relationship at doses greater than 2 Gy. The sensitivity of the reflection scan at doses greater than 2 Gy was higher than that of the reflection scan within 0-2 Gy. The sensitivity steadily decreased with increasing doses, and the sensitivity of the two modes was within 0.1 to 0.2 at 2 Gy and was saturated beyond that. For the transmission scan, the sensitivity was approximately 0.2 at 3 Gy. For the intra-batch test result, the maximum net optical density difference of the intra-batch was 5.5% at 2 Gy and 7.4% at 0.2 Gy in the transmission and reflection scans, respectively. In the low-dose range, film thickness of more than 120-㎛ was proper in the transmission mode. In contrast, the transmission mode showed a better result compared to the reflection mode. Therefore, the proper scan mode should be selected according to the dose range.

  • 최근 주목을 받고 있는 유연성/신축성 전극소재는 유연디스플레이, 센서, 유전탄성고분자 액추에이터 및 제너레이터, 스마트 수술도구 등과 같은 다양한 분야에서 활용이 가능하다. 유연성/신축성 전극소재는 다양한 형태의 기계적인 변형을 받게 되는데 이때 기계적인 변형에 맞춰 함께 변형될 뿐만 아니라 신축되어야 한다. 따라서 기계적 변형에서도 전극으로써 기능을 유지해야 하기 때문에 대단히 어려운 연구분야라 할 수 있다. 본 총설에서는 최근까지 연구된 유연성/신축성 전극소재의 제조와 특성을 소개하고자 한다.

심해 라이저의 와류유기 진동해석 (Vortex-Induced Vibration Analysis of Deep-Sea Riser)

  • A numerical model based on the mode superposition method is used to study the vortex-induced vibration response characteristics of a deep-sea riser such as steel catenary riser (SCR). A steel catenary riser can be modeled using a flexible cable with simple supports at both ends. The natural frequency, mode shape and mode curvature of the riser are calculated and the vortex-induced vibration response of the riser is obtained using the equilibrium of the input and output power. The mode superposition method is applied to the vibrational stresses for each mode to calculate the overall riser fatigue life.

  • 본 연구에서는 직교좌표계 및 Euler-Lagrange 방법을 이용하여 유도된 기본 방정식을 사용하여 앞창닦기기구(windshield wiper mechanism)의 동력학적 해석을 하 였다.모우터가 일정한 각속도로 회전하고 있는 경우와, 토오크가 각속도의 크기에 따라 변화하는 경우 각각에 대해서 강체로 해석할 때와 탄성체로 가정할 때의 해석결 과를 비교하였다.

Continuous hitting by a flexible link hammer with neural networks generating input pattern

  • This paper proposes a continuous hitting by a flexible link hammer. This hammer system is used only the first mode of vibration for a desired hitting. The input of the hammer driver for a continuous hitting is obtained from numerical solutions of two sets of non-linear simultaneous equations which satisfy the hitting conditions. Being too complicated, these numerical calculations are not useful for online processing. Therefore, the multi-layered neural networks are applied to the generation of the input patterns of the hammer driver. The trained network outputs agree well to the numerical solutions.

  • In this paper, applications of self-recurrent neural networks based of adaptive controller to position control of flexible robot link are considered. The self-recurrent neural networks can be used to approximate any continuous function to any desired degree of accuracy and the weights are updated by feedback-error learning algorithm. Therefore, a comparative analysis was mode with linear controller through an simulation. The results are presented to illustrate the advantages and improved performance of the proposed position tracking controller over the conventional linear controller.

  • To improve the performance of the robots they must be built ever lighter, which will lead to flexibility of the links. The full order of the flexible link manipulator dynamic system does not allow the determination of a feedback linearization control as for flexible link manipulator regard low mode. In this paper, this drawback is overcome by LQG/LTR controller which is designed bya corrected reduced modle based on the singular perturbation method.
