  • This study proposed a new approach to impliment a robusut control of comsumer-friendly flexible manipulator with five joint for untact working in filed work-site. The output redefinition approach was used to overcome the non minimum phase characteristic of the system. The new output is defined so that the zero dynamics related to this output are stable. The control strategy is based on an computed torque method which is applicable to a class of time-invariamt phase linear systems whose uncertainties appear in output loop stable. The controller is composed of a stabilizing joint controller and an output redefinition tracking controller. Experimental results are also presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.

  • Electrostatic suspension is a method to levitate an object by using electrostatic forces. Its main advantage is to levitate objects without any mechanical contact which fulfills the requirement of an object handling in ultra clean environment. In this paper, the electrostatic suspension system for film-like thin plate such as aluminum sheet, is designed and controlled. In contrast with the conventional electrostatic suspension system which requires the costly and bulky high-voltage amplifiers, it is suggested to use the switching voltage control method in consideration of real industrial application for the handling of such flexible bodies. Some experimental results show that the developed electrostatic suspension system shows good performances to levitate flexible film-like thin plate.

  • This paper presents a new stable composite control law for the flexible joint robot manipulators, which incorporate an additional stabilizing control law with the sliding property. The singularly perturbated models in this paper include inertia moments which are functions or the deformations of actuators as well as link positions. The values of renewedly defined fast controller variables are computer from the corrected reduced-order model without additional computational loads. Proposed schemes are compared with the conventional one. The simulations for 2 DOF flexible joint manipulator show that the proposed schemes are more stable than the conventional scheme, and especially effective for the manipulator with high joint-flexibilities.

  • In this paper, our aim is to develop a model for two cooperating flexible manipulators handling a rigid object by using lumped parameters. This model is in turn analyzed on MATLAB. In order to validate the model, a precise simulation model is developed using $ADAMS^{TM}$ (Automatic Dynamic Analysis of Mechanical System). Moreover, to clarify the discussion, the motions of a dual-arm experimental flexible manipulator are considered. Using the developed model, we control a robotic system with a symmetric hybrid position/force control scheme. Finally, experiments and simulations are performed, and a comparison of simulation results with experimental results is given to a rerify the validity of our model.

  • A method is suggested to design a stochastic observer which can be used as a state estimator for the optimal control of a one link flexible manipulator. This stochastic observer is derived from unifying the two concepts of reduced-state deterministic observer theory and optimal Kalman filtering theory. In estimating state variables for the optimal control, instead of using the two different state estimators for the deterministic system with noise free measurements and stochastic system with noise measurements, only one stochastic observer is designed which is to be used in both systems commonly. Through the simulation, it has been shown that the flexible system with the stochastic observer is similar in characteristics to the flexible system assuming that all states can be measured.

  • Effective-pivot effects on the thrust vector control performance of the flexible seal nozzle to be used to control the flight direction of missile were investigated by computer simulation. $2^3$-Design of experiment technique was applied and ADMAS was used for the surrogate technique. As a result, radial pivot position had more influence upon the nozzle actuating performance than axial pivot position. Connecting method of actuator was also important factor in determining effective-pivot effects on the thrust vector control performance of the flexible seal nozzle.

  • The ration of payload to weight of industrial robot amounts form 1:10 to 1:30. Compared with man who have a ration of 3:1, it is very low. One of the goals for the next generation of robots will be a ration. This might be possible only by developing lightweight robots. When two-link flexible arm is rotated about an joint axis, transverse vibration may occur. In this paper, vibration dynamics of flexible arm is modeled by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrange equation. Using the fact that matrix $\dot{D}-2C$ is skew symmetric, new controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden is proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory. We propose deterministic and adaptive control laws for two link flexible arm, and the validity of the proposed control scheme is shown in computer simulation for two-link flexible arm.

  • Linear LQG controller has been investigated to control flexible link manipulators. The performance and complexity of these depend largely on the model upon which the controller is designed. In this study, the flexible modes of the link manipulator are considered to have uncertain parameters, which can be represented by random variable and these parameters are reflected on the weighting of performance. In this method, the exact modelling for the flexible modes is not necessary. The order of the resulting controller is much lower than the one based on a full model. Through numerical study, it is shown that the performance and the stability-robustness of the proposed controller reaches reasonably the one based on the full model.

  • In this paper, a closed-loop observer to extract the center of mass (CoM) of a bipedal robot is suggested. Comparing with the simple conversion method of just using joint angle measurements, it enables to get more reliable estimates by fusing both joint angle measurements and F/T sensor outputs at ankle joints. First, a nonlinear-type observer is constructed to estimate the flexible rotational motion of the biped in the extended Kalman filter framework. It adopts the flexible inverted pendulum model which is appropriate to address the flexible motion of bipeds, specifically in the single support phase. The predicted estimates of CoM in terms of the flexible motion observer are combined with measurements (that is, output of the CoM conversion equation with joint angles). Then, we have final CoM estimates depending on the weighting values which penalize the flexible motion model and the CoM conversion equation. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • The production of automotive chassis parts requiring both high hardness and good shape-holdability is better realized by using press quenching technology, comprising the austenitizaton and the subsequent press quenching in a specially designed stamping tool. The effect of press quenching mold shape on the hardness distribution, bending height, and degree of planeness of automotive flexible plate during press quenching and tempering has been investigated. The preferable shape of the projections of punch and die in contact with the flexible plate was close to oval to improve the flow of cooling oil, leading to the higher hardness. The press quenching mold with three separate parts was more effective to control the dimensional change due to thermal deformation during press quenching. Some decrease in the bending height during tempering may be related to some recovery of the residual stress at $400^{\circ}C$.
