Numerical simulations were performed for the prediction of the flame structure of a hydrocarbon flame interacting with a hydrogen flame. Methane was used as a hydrocarbon fuel in this study. The interaction of two 1D premixed flames established in counterflow geometry was investigated. The temperature of the flame interacting with each other was much higher and the flame thickness was wider at a global strain of $1000\;s^{-1}$ than normal methane flame.
Stability of laminar premixed planar flames inclined in gravitational field which generate vorticity is asymptotically examined. The flame structure is resolved by a large activation energy asymptotics and a long wave approximation. The coupling between hydrodynamics and diffusion processes is included and near-unity Lewis number is assumed. The results show that as the flame is more inclined from the horizontal plane it becomes more unstable due to not only the decrease of stabilizing effect of gravity but also the increase of destabilizing effect of rotational flow. The obtained dispersion relation involves the Prandtl number and shows the destabilizing effect of viscosity. The analysis predicts that the phase velocity of unstable flame wave depends on not only the flame angle but also the Lewis number. For relatively short wave disturbances, still much larger than flame thickness, the most unstable wavelength is nearly independent on the flame angle and the flame can be stabilized by gravity and diffusion mechanism.

In Part 1, the flame structure of the counterflow nonpremixed flames computed by using Fire Dynamics Simulator was compared with that of OPPDIF for different concentrations of methane in the fuel stream. In this study, comparisons were made for the global strain rate that is an important parameter for diffusion flames for further evaluation of FDS. At each of the three fuel concentrations, $20% CH_4+ 80% N_2, 50% CH_4 + 50% N_2, 90% CH_4 + 10% N_2$ in the fuel stream, the temperature and axial velocity profiles were investigated for the global strain rate in the range from 20 to $100s^{-1}$. Changes in flame thickness and radius were also compared with OPPDIF. There was good agreement in the temperature and axial velocity profiles between the axisymmetric simulations and the one-dimensional computations except for the regions where the flame temperature reach its peak and the axial velocity rapidly changes. The simulations of the axisymmetric flames with FDS showed that the flame thickness decreases and the flame radius increases with increasing global strain rate.
The LES-based level-set flamelet model has been applied to analyze the turbulent propane/air premixed bluff-body flame with a highly wrinkled flame fronts. The present study has been motivated to investigate the interaction between the flame front and turbulent eddies. Special emphasis is given to study the effect of G equation filtering treatment on the precise structure of turbulent premixed flames as well as the effect of sub-grid scale (SGS) eddies on the wrinkling of the flame surface. The level-set/flamelet model has been adopted to account for the effect of turbulence-flame interaction as well as to properly capture the flame front. Numerical results indicate that the present LES-based level-set flamelet approach has a capability to realistically simulate the highly non-stationary turbulent premixed flame.
A two-dimensional "twin-jet counterflow" burner has been designed for the better understanding of the stability of turbulent flames. This flow system enables one to systematically investigate various effects on non-premixed flames, including the effects of curvature, negative strain, and non-premixed flame interactions. The objective of this study is comparing characteristics of extinction of non-premixed methane flames with that of non-premixed propane flames investigated previously. The extinction limit of non-premixed methane and propane flames can be extended compare to that for the conventional counterflow non-premixed flame because of the existence of petal shaped flame and have same structure. The hysteresis in transition between the petal shaped flame and the curved two-wing flames could be observed. We could find differences between non-premixed methane flame and non-premixe propane flame such as the position of one wing extinction and the regime of one wing extinction.
Pyrophosphoric lactone modified polyester (PATT) containing two phosphorous functional groups in one unit structure was synthesized to prepare a non-toxic reactive flame-retardant coatings. Then the PATT was cured at room temperature with isocyanate, toluene diisocyanate-isocyanurate , to get a two-component polyurethane flame-retardant coatings (PIPUC). Comparing physical properties of the films of PIPUC with those of film of non-flame-retardant coatings, there was no deterioration observed in physical properties by the introduction of a flame-retarding component into the resin. We found that the char lengths measured by 45$^{\circ}$ Meckel burner method were 3.1∼4.4 cm and LOI values recorded 27∼30%. These results indicate that the coating prepared in this study is a good flame-retardant. The surface structure of coatings investigated with SEM does not show any defects and phase separation.

The purpose of this study is to applied reinforcement method at the joint part of the sandwich panel. Becasue the joint part of the sandwich panel has a disadvantage that flame spreads fast inside steel plates in the event of fire, leading to a big fire rapidly. In this study, the combustion performance was measured through KS F ISO 13784-1 "Reaction-to-fire tests for sandwich panel building systems" according to the application of reinforcement method to prevent flame from being brought into the internal joint of the sandwich panel. For the reinforcement inside the panel, the tape produced using expanded graphite-based heat-expandable glass fiber was attached. As a result, it was confirmed that the prevention of flame from being brought into the internal joint could delay the flash over time and the collapse of the test specimen.

With the introduction of Fractal notation, various fields of engineering adopted fractal notation to express characteristics of geometry involved and one of the most frequently applied areas was turbulence. With research on turbulence regarding the surface as fractal geometry, attempts to analyze turbulent premised flame as fractal geometry also attracted attention as a tool for modeling, for the flame surface can be viewed as fractal geometry. Experiments focused on disclosure of flame characteristics by measuring fractal parameters were done by researchers. But robust principle or theory can't be extracted. Only reported modeling efforts using fractal dimension is flame speed model by Gouldin. This model gives good predictions of flame speed in unstrained case but not in highly strained flame condition. In this research, approaches regarding fractal dimension of flame as one representative value is pointed out as a reason for the absence of robust model. And as an extort to establish robust modeling, Presents methods treating fractal dimension as statistical variable. From this approach flame characteristics reported by experiments such as Da effect on flame structure can be seen quantitatively and shows possibility of flame modeling using fractal parameters with statistical method. From this result more quantitative model can be derived.
An experimental investigation has been made with the objcetive of studying the effects of air entrainment of fire strength. A rich jet flame is considered as an fire, and fire, and the air entrainment is controlled by introducing the tone excitation which is generated by means of a loudspeaker-driven cavity. The excitation frequency is chosen for the resonant frequency identified as a pipe resonance due to acoustic excitation. As the excitation intensity increases, the amplitude of oscillating velocity for inducing air entrainment is increased, the flame height decreased and the structure of diffusion flame gradually transformed to that of premixed flame.
