First Aid Knowledge and Education Necessity of Some College Students in Gyeongbuk (경북지역 일부 대학생들의 응급처치 지식수준 및 교육 필요성)

  • Purpose : The study examined the knowledge and health education about first aid of college students. Methods : The survey had done from October to December, 2022. Total subjects in this study were 205. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS 24.0 program. Results : Regarding the difference in first aid knowledge according to the first aid education characteristics of the subjects, significant differences were observed in experience of first aid training (t=6.54, p(.01), necessity of first aid training (t=3.60, p(.01), and number of first aid training sessions (F=5.40, p(.01). In the case of first aid education experience, first aid education was necessary, and the knowledge score was the highest tn the three or more training sessions. As for the contents of first aid education, action tips in case of emergency, fracture, dislocation, sprain was the highest, and rescue and transport was the lowest. Conclusion : Continuous and systematic first aid education for college students is needed, and it is absolutely necessary to develop an advanced treatment education program to revitalize it.

Needs and Demands Assessment on the First Aid Education of General Teachers in Elementary Schools (초등학교 일반교사의 응급처치 교육 필요도 및 교육 요구도에 관한 연구)

  • Background and Purpose : Emergencies in the school setting occurs frequently. Therefore, the role of first responders is important. General teachers in elementary schools are expected by first responders in school emergencies. This study attempted to assess needs and demands assessment on the first aid education of general teachers in elementary schools. Method : The subjects of this study were 71 general teachers from 8 elementary schools. Data were collected by the questionnaire during the period from March 19 to April 13, 2007. The data were analyzed through frequency, Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, Independent Two samples t-test, paired T-test, One Way ANOVA, Pearson's Correlation by SPSS win 12.0. Result : 1. It showed that 47.9%(34 persons) of general teachers answerd that they experienced emergencies in elementary school setting. Experienced emergencies were wounds(cut, laceration, abrasion etc.) 79.4%(27 persons), bleeding(including epistaxis) 64.7%(22 person), fracture(including dislocation, sprain) 44.1%(15 person), sting or bite 29.4%(10 persons). 2. It showed that 95.8%(68 persons) of subjects answerd that first aid education are necessary. Also 91.5%(65 persons) of subjects answerd that will be educated first aid if opportunities is given. 3. The total mean showed $2.39{\pm}.40$ in necessities of first aid education and $2.17{\pm}.36$ in needs of first aid education by 3 points Likert scale. Ranking 1 in necessities and needs of first aid education was bleeding control. 4. The total mean in necessities and needs of first aid education showed statistically significant differences(t = 3.453, p = .002). 5. The necessities of first aid education showed significant positive correlations with necessities and needs of first aid education(r = .521, p = .002). Conclusion : These results suggest that education program of first aid on elementary general teachers must be developed through necessities and needs assessment of first aid education and instructors must searched methods to increase needs of first aid.

First Aid Knowledge and Education Needs of Ski Resort Workers (스키리조트 근무자의 응급처치 지식 및 교육요구도)

  • Purpose: This is the descriptive research for providing the basic data necessary for the first aid education after understanding the first aid experience, first aid education, first aid knowledge, and educational needs of ski resorts workers. Methods: 323 workers of domestic 9 ski resorts were surveyed for data, which was collected using the systematic questionnaire from Oct. $6^{th}$ to $20^{th}$, 2011. The collected data has been processed using the program of SPSS Win. Version 14.0 and analyzed that according to the purpose of research in terms of real number, percentage, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA. Results: 1. 58.8%(190) of ski resort workers experienced an emergency on duty and 33.6%(108) carried out the first aid for emergency patients on duty. 2. 65.6%(210) of workers experienced first aid education. 3. The percentage of correct answers of first aid knowledge was average 46.8% and average $9.35{\pm}2.54$ points out of total 20 points. 4. The first aid educational necessity indicated as follows: ski resort workers need first aid education (97.5%, 306); workers want to have the education if they have chance (94.6%, 296 persons); in addition, they need the repeated education of first aid (95.6%, 301). Conclusion: It is understood that as special first aid service can be delayed in ski resorts due to their geographical characteristics, the workers of ski resorts need the continuous and systematic first aid education enabling them to play the first responder in the first aid system when emergency situation occurs.

  • This research, by analyzing the current first aid education status in K district, Seoul and comparing first aid education systems in other developed countries, introduces the need of first aid/Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation(CPR) education with Automated External Defibrillator(AED) usage to high school students, who are on the verge of becoming adults. The thorough research shows that schoolsshould be appointed as mandatory facilities for AEDs by laws and execute first aid education to their students. Only through organized and consistent first aid education would the students develop into true volunteers who not only have altruistic minds, but the ability to fluently adapt to medical emergency and properly use AED. In addition, the research also outlines various laws that could be legislated such as having to master the basic degrees of first aid education before getting driver's license and graduating high school so that more people become aware of first aid.

The Knowledge and Health Education Need of Physical Education College Student about First Aid (체대생의 응급처치 지식수준과 교육요구도)

  • This study examined the knowledge and health education about First Aid of Physical Education College Students. The survey had been done from September to November, 2007. Total subjects in this study were 193. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS. The results of the study were as follows : 1. Among total 193, 74.6% were male, 25.4% were female, 1st grade were 38.9%, 2nd grade were 61.1%. 58% of the subjects had not been trained first aid education. 2. For needs assessment about first aid education contents, the needs for first aid was high(2.36) of the lecture, and assessment of emergency situation(2.65) was high of the practice. Legal problems of first aid was low of the lecture and practice. 3. An average the knowledge score of the subjects was 55.1088(${\pm}19.09$) when the knowledge score of subjects converted 100 points. 4. There were significant difference in the knowledge of first aid according to subject's gender(t=2.907, p= .004), grade(t=-7.167, p= .000), and experience of first aid education(t=5.174, p= .000). These results will provide the base data for the development of first aid education program for physical education college students.

A Survey on First Aid Knowledge and Education Needs of Jeollabukdo Police Officers

  • This study surveyed 171 police officers working in Jeollabuk-do to investigate their first aid knowledge and the need for education. The results showed that the correct answer rate for first aid knowledge among police officers was 75.61 points out of a possible 100 points. Additionally, 98.8% of respondents indicated a need for first aid training, expressing a preference for 2-hour sessions integrated with their work education. There was a statistically significant difference in the correct answer rate for first aid knowledge based on education level and experience in emergency situations, but no significant difference in the need for education was observed across respondents. The significance of this research lies in its provision of foundational data for first aid education among police officers, which can be instrumental in developing training programs and policies aimed at enhancing their first aid capabilities. Specifically, the study contributes to improving the effectiveness of police officers' responses in emergency situations by offering concrete suggestions on the content, method, and duration of first aid training. These findings underscore the necessity and importance of providing comprehensive and effective first aid training not only to police officers but to all first responders, emphasizing that such training is crucial for ensuring public safety.

The Private Security Officer ' Actual Condition of First-Aid Education (민간경비원의 응급처치 교육에 대한 실태조사)

  • Since the establishment of Security Business Act in 1976, the Korean private security industry has rapidly grown in the qualitative and quantitative aspects. In the circumstance, various roles of private security guards have been demanded. A private security guard as the first contactor of the users of multi-use facilities should first find an accident field situation and make a response when an accident occurs, and should give first aid as most as possible until emergency medical workers arrive. However, there is a lack of first-aid education for the private security guards who are responsible for the safety of facility users. Therefore, the purpose of this study is first to find how many times private security guards have job and first-aid education, and analyze how the education count influences their first-aid ability; secondly to analyze how private security guards' satisfaction with first-aid education influences their first-aid ability. To achieve the purpose, this researcher conducted a questionnaire survey on first-aid ability of the private security guards working in the metropolitan areas. For data analysis, Stata se/ 14.0ver was applied. For the analysis on validity and reliability, exploratory factor analysis was conducted and a Cronbach's a value was drawn. To find the actual conditions of first-aid education, frequency analysis, inter-group difference analysis, and multi-regression analysis were conducted. According to the data analysis, there were not enough times of job education and first-aid education for private security guards, and their satisfaction with first-aid education and first-aid ability were difference depending on the job and first-aid education counts. Also, their satisfaction with first-aid education partially influenced their first-aid ability.

First aid knowledge and education requirements of physical therapists (물리치료사의 응급처치 지식 및 교육요구도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the first aid knowledge and education requirements of physical therapists in a clinical setting. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was distributed to 280 physical therapists in Daejeon, Gwangju, and Seoul from July to December, 2016. Using only completed questionnaires, 201 responses were analyzed using IBM SPSS 23.0 program. Results: In the first aid knowledge, time to resuscitate heart after cardiac arrest and sprain had 91.0% and 99.0%, respectively, whereas partial respiratory obstruction and diabetes mellitus had 25.4% and 18.9%, respectively. The subjects working at advanced general hospitals(62.17) had significantly higher scores that those at general hospitals(53.82). The subjects who experienced first aid education(59.16) had significantly higher points that those without first aid education(53.24). Regarding their requirements of first aid education, 64.0% replied that they wanted to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator, poisoning, burn, and frostbite were low educational requirements. Conclusion: It is necessary to provide repeated first aid training that helps physical therapists in the field have sufficient first aid knowledge and increase that knowledge over time.

The Effect on the Knowledge, Practice, Study Self-Efficacy of Elementary Students by First Aid Education (응급처치교육이 초등학생의 응급처치 지식, 실천행위 및 학업적 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This thesis was performed to evaluate the effect of the first aid education on the knowledge, practice and study self-efficacy to the elementary school students. Methods: The participants of this study included 67 elementary students, located in the adjoining region of P city. While one of the class, composed of 34 students was designated as an experimental group, and the other class, composed of 33 students, was compared as a control group. Used program in this study was first aid education program, which was developed by Gyeongsangbuk-do official of education. Results: The findings in this research were as follows. Knowledge of first aid education was significant difference between the two groups. On the other hand, the effect on practice and study self-efficacy were not significantly different. In the area of study self-efficacy, task difficulty preference and self-regulatory efficacy were not statistically significant between two groups. But self-efficacy of confidence was effective. Conclusion: These findings in the study give us the necessity of first aid education program for elementary students. It is also meaningful for this program to apply elementary school students to various first aid education.

A Study on Actual Conditions of the First-Aid Education for Child-care Teachers at Daycare Center for the Disabled Children (장애아 전담 보육시설에서 보육교사의 응급처치교육에 대한 실태조사)

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to examine the degree of recognition of safety education and its execution for child-care teachers at daycare center for the disabled children in Jeollanam-do. Ninety six child care teachers filled out the questionnaire and the results were as follows. Results : 1. The possibility of accident prevention by the day care teachers was a little higher in case of nearby education institution. The most appropriate period of safety education was within one month. 2. Majority of child care teachers had received safety and first-aid educations before and the education was done for less than 2 hours. 3. The best educational method was practice-centered education of off-duty time. The contents of first-aid education were bleeding, fall, shock, and burn. 4. The education material and book should be available to the teachers when they need the knowledge. 5. By the annual schedule, safety education should be conducted and provided to the parents. Conclusion : This study suggested that reinforcement of contents related to emergency situation and actual first-aid as well as theory education in the process of parent and teacher education should be conducted on the basis of information of general conditions related to safety and first-aid education at the daycare center for the disabled children.
