  • The fire protective coating can reduce certain damages in case of fire, also conserve energy by thermal insulation and prevent corrosion and errosion in normal daily life by means of blocking thermal transfer, that were generally made of organic, inorganic and metallic materials as adiabatic coating. In case of inorganic material such as soluble silicate, it produces less toxic substances which are exposed to Ore, and have a plenty of raw material. Also inorganic thermal insulator is good in heat resistance. To develope such a excellent inorganic thermal insulator, the study of fire protective coating using the alkali silicate is necessary The principle of intumescence for alkali silicate is from rapid evolution of water in the coating material, the quantity of water in it is of course influenced on the degree of intumescence. The phenomenon of intumescence in ternary silicate is increased as the radius of ion is bigger, and this is caused by evolution of so many kinds of water. The individual degree of intumescence is ordered like this ; $K^+$ > $Na^+$ > $Li^+$ . The best protection effect is similarity found to intumescence of ternary silicate. The result of X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that $KHSi_2O_5$ is an important ingredient in K-silicate.

  • Concrete is inherently a good fire-resistance material among all other constrcution materials and protects the reinforcing steel inside. This study investigates the material characteristics of concrete and steel bar inside the full scale reinforced concrete(RC) beam exposed to fire test. The fire test specimen was 4 m long and the test was conducted under no loading condition following KS F 2257. Fire source is simulated by ISO 834 and number of thermocouples were installed to measure temperature variation of surfaces and inside of the beam. The measured compressive strength of cored specimen, which was exposed to fire test, was 11 MPa, about 66% lower than the strength before exposure. The yielding strength of steel bar also decreased about 75 MPa, about 17% lower. The measured temperature of protected steel bar was around $649^{\circ}C$, the critical limit, after 4 hour exposure.

  • In this study, the characteristics of HFIX insulated wire sheaths contaminated by pollutants were examined. KS C IEC 60811-1-3 standard was followed in performing the water-resistance wire tests. Pollutants were selected, and the specimens were exposed to the pollutants for a maximum duration of four weeks. The maximum tensile load and the elongation rate were measured each week. As the period of pollution exposure increased, the maximum tensile load of the specimens decreased by 6.22% and 6.52% at room temperature and high temperature, respectively, and 19.94% for specimens coated with a rust-proof lubricant. The elongation rate also decreased rapidly, such that the reductions in the properties of the sheath were significant. From the analysis of the surfaces using a scanning microscope, as the contamination period increased, structural changes such as perforation, split, and melting occurred, and the mechanical properties of the specimens decreased. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and follow an inspection cycle and periodically carry out repairs to prevent the deterioration of insulated wires.

  • Though polymer cement mortar is widely used to repair or reinforce concrete as it has superior adhesion, dense internal structure, chemical resistance, and workability in comparison to those of general cement mortar, studies on its behaviors in high temperature environment such as fire is urgently required. Accordingly, in this experiment, the degrees of reduction in the compressive strength at different temperatures was grasped applying ISO834 Heating Curve, and the effect of polymer content and type on compressive strength could be determined. As a result of this experiment, it is found that polymer type and content have a big effect on reduction of compressive strength in high temperature range, and not only the dynamic characteristics but also the combustion characteristics in high temperature range are required to be studied considering occurrence of a fire in the future.

  • Zinc-rich epoxy (ZRE) is used to overcome corrosion problems in reinforced concrete (RC) beams and coat steel rebars to protect them from humidity and chlorides. An extra coating layer of Sikadur-31 epoxy (SDE) is utilised to increase bond strength because the use of ZRE reduces the bond strength between concrete and steel rebars. However, the low melting point of SDE indicates that concrete specimens are vulnerable to fire. An experimental investigation on flexural performance of RC beams incorporating ZRE-SDE coating of steel rebars that were destroyed by fire is performed in this study. Twenty beams of five concrete mixes with different cementitious contents were tested to compare fire exposure for coated and uncoated rebars of the same beams at room temperature and determine the optimal cementitious content. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was also applied to investigate characteristics of fired mixture samples. Results showed that the use of SDE-ZRE at room temperature improves flexural strengths of the five mixes compared with uncoated rebars with percentages ranging from 8.5% to 12.3%. All beams with SDE-ZRE lost approximately 50% of their flexural strength due to firing. Moreover, the mix incorporating SF (silica fume) of 15% and cement content of 400 kg/m3 introduces optimum behaviour compared with other mixes. All results were supported and verified by the SEM analysis and compressive strength of cubic specimens of the same mixes.

  • With the development of the electronics industry and widespread supply of many different electrical appliances, the factors of the electrical fires are also diversified. For this reason, the fuse, safety-critical component, needs accurate and stable operating characteristics for preventing various fire factor, and also needs various operating characteristics. Especially when the all electrical resistance are dropped by internal short of circuit, high current inrushes and makes the fire. In order to prevent this, very fast acting fuses should be applied. However, existing very fast acting characteristics fuse has less wire dimension of element Ag100% metal than that of fast acting fuse, and it is made of plating with low melting point metals, so it satisfy very fast acting but it can't satisfy durability and safety. For this reason, in this study, through the analyzing fusing characteristics of Ag-Cu alloy composition, the new alloy composition, which implement to very fast acting fuse without decrease of fuse elements dimension, is suggested. And this study classify the operating characteristics changes, a resistance change, and the rated current of the fuse in the overall composition change of Ag-Cu alloying. and it can be utilized for designing fuse.

  • This study fabricated a low-voltage 10 circuit distribution board based on the KEMC (Korea Electrical Manufacturers Cooperative) 2102-610 standard and performed a characteristics assessment of the developed 10 circuit distribution board to secure product stability. The developed 10 circuit distribution board is designed to have the characteristics of insulation materials, as well as resistance to corrosion ultraviolet radiation and mechanical impact. The developed distribution board is fabricated to have an appropriate protection class of enclosure, electric shock prevention and protection circuits, switchgear and its components, internal electrical circuits and connectors, external conduct terminal, insulation characteristics, temperature rise test, heat resistance, etc. The developed 10 circuit distribution board consists of a single phase circuit and 3-phase circuits. It is possible to measure in real time the leakage current generated from the load distribution line by installing a sensor module at the load side of each of the branched switchgears. In addition, it is possible to increase a circuit according to the use and purpose of the load and to also manage and check the load in real time. Temperature rise tests were performed on the developed 10 circuit distribution board at 18 places including the inlet connection, main circuit and distribution circuit bus bars and bus bar supports, etc. The highest temperature of $65.3^{\circ}C$ was measured at the R-Phase of the connection of the MCCB power supply for the branch circuit bus bar and a temperature rise of $61.6^{\circ}C$ was measured at the T-Phase of the load side. When applying thermal stress to an MCCB for 6 hours at $180^{\circ}C$ using a heat resistant experimental device, it was found that the actuator lever was transformed and moved in the tripped state.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the trend in insulation resistance values according to temperature and overcurrent by conducting an investigation on the actual condition and experiments on the electrical wiring during the melting furnace process. In addition, the Arrhenius equation is used to determine whether temperatures in the furnace operating process can be applied to the actual field. In the investigation of the actual condition, the insulation resistance started to decrease seven years after replacement, even though cables in oil pump A were replaced in 2010. Both the experimental and theoretical values of the insulation resistance obtained using the Arrhenius equation decreased with an increase in temperature. Errors in insulation resistance (MΩ) values between tests and the Arrhenius equation ranged from ±2 to ±10, demonstrating a high similarity. Results revealed that when the insulation resistance cannot be measured in a manufacturing workplace (quarterly analysis), it can be estimated by partially applying the Arrhenius equation.

  • In this study, we were manufactured wood flour-HDPE composites by modular co-rotating twin screw extruder with L/D ratio of 42. We was measured cone calorimeter test and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to find the combustion characteristics and thermal properties for wood flour-HDPE composites. We then evaluated the effect of three additive-type flame retardants on fire resistance performance. The cone calorimeter test showed that the heat release rate (HRR) of untreated composites was the highest Peak HRR ($446.6kW/m^2$) as well as Mean HRR ($185.5kW/m^2$). From the TGA, it was shown that composites added flame retardants began early thermal decomposition and improved thermal stability.
