PRISM과 상세 지형정보에 근거한 북한지역 강수량 분포 추정 (Estimation of Monthly Precipitation in North Korea Using PRISM and Digital Elevation Model)

  • 현재 남한에서는 270m 해상도의 강수분포도가 제작되어 활용되고 있지만, 북한지역에는 강수관측점의 수가 남한에 비하여 매우 적어서 남한과 같은 방법으로 강수분포를 추정하기는 어렵다. 자료가 불충분한 북한지방의 강수추정을 위해 우선 낮은 해상도의 강수기후도를 PRISM을 이용하여 제작하고 격자 내 지형특성을 반영하기 위해 여기에 상대적으로 자료가 풍부한 남한의 '지형-강수 관계'에 근거한 보정값을 더하는 방법을 모색하였다. 남한 지역 270m 해상도의 DEM에서 자동기상관측소와 표준기상관측소 위치의 격자값을 추출하고 이들을 이용하여 AWS+KMA 및 KMA에 해당하는 가상지형을 만든 다음, 둘 간의 편차를 얻었다. 강수량에 대해서도 동일한 작업을 하여 둘 간의 편차를 얻어 경사향별로 고도편차-강수편차 간 회귀식을 도출하였다. 북한 지역의 270m 해상도의 DEM과 27개 기상대 고도 값으로 IDW한 가상지형 간의 편차를 구한 다음, 남한에서 얻은 회귀식을 적용하여 보정값을 계산하였다. 북한지역에 대해 2,430m 해상도로 PRISM모형을 구동하고 보정값을 적용하여 최종강수량을 얻었다. 제작된 강수기후도에 따르면 북한지방의 연간 총 강수량은 지역평균이 1,196mm이며 표준편차는 298mm인 것으로 추정된다.

Simultaneous Observation of FUV Aurora with Precipitating Electrons on STSAT-1

  • We present the results offar ultraviolet (FUV, 1350-1750 ${\AA}$) auroral observations made by the Far-ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph (FIMS) instrument on the Korean microsatellite STSAT-1. The instrument was capable of resolving spatial structures of a few kilometers with the spectral resolution of 2-3 ${\AA}$. The observations were carried out simultaneously with the measurement of precipitating electrons using an electrostatic analyzer (ESA, 100 eV-20 keV) and a solid state telescope (SST, 170 keV-360 keV) on board the same satellite. With a careful mapping of the field lines, we were able to correlate the particle spectrum to the corresponding FUV spectrum of the footprints of the FIMS image that varied significantly in fine scales. We divided the FIMS spectral band into the LBH long (LBHL, 1640-1715 ${\AA}$) and LBH short (LBHS, 1380-1455 ${\AA}$) bands, and compared the electron energies with the intensities of LBHL and LBHS for the well-defined inverted-V structures. The result shows a strong correlation between the total LBH intensity and the energy flux measured by ESAwhile the peak energy itself does not correlate well with the LBH intensity. On the other hand, it was observed that the ratio of the LBHL intensity to that of LBHS increased significantly as the peak electron energy increased, primarily due to a smaller absorption by O2 at LBHL than at LBHS.

  • SLAM(Simultaneous localization and mapping) and AI(Artificial intelligence) have been active research areas in robotics for two decades. In particular, localization is one of the most important issues in mobile robot research. Until now expensive sensors like a laser sensor have been used for the mobile robot's localization. Currently, as the RFID reader devices like antennas and RFID tags become increasingly smaller and cheaper, the proliferation of RFID technology is advancing rapidly. So, in this paper, the smart floor using passive RFID tags is proposed and, passive RFID tags are mainly used to identify the mobile robot's location on the smart floor. We discuss a number of challenges related to this approach, such as RFID tag distribution (density and structure), typing and clustering. In the smart floor using RFID tags, because the reader just can senses whether a RFID tag is in its sensing area, the localization error occurs as much as the sensing area of the RFID reader. And, until now, there is no study to estimate the pose of mobile robot using RFID tags. So, in this paper, two algorithms are suggested to. We use the Markov localization algorithm to reduce the location(X,Y) error and the Kalman Filter algorithm to estimate the pose(q) of a mobile robot. We applied these algorithms in our experiment with our personal robot CMR-P3. And we show the possibility of our probability approach using the cheap sensors like odometers and RFID tags for the mobile robot's localization on the smart floor.

Genetic analysis of photoblastism and mesocotyl elongation

  • Seed germination stimulated by light is said to be photoblastism. Photoblastism has not been reported in cereal crops, especially in the rice, but Korean weedy rice was reported to have photoblastism and longer mesocotyl than cultivar. Photoblastic weedy rice (PBR) was used to identify QTLs for photoblastism and mesocotyl length. In previous works, QTLs for photoblastism, pbr1 and pbr12 were identified on chromosomes 1 and 12 using 124 F4 lines from a cross between Ilpum and PBR using bulked segregant analysis. Two QTLs for mesocotyl elongation, qMel-1 and qMel-3 were mapped on chromosomes 1 and 3 120 F8 lines from the same cross. Of interest, the RM8260-RM246 region of pbr1 overlapped with a region of qMel-1. To know whether these two QTLs are functionally related, 110 F3 lines were developed from a cross between Ilpum and CR7124. CR7124 having photoblastism and long mesocotyl was selected from 120 F8 lines. 95 F3 lines were measured for germination rate in a light and dark condition and mesocotyl length. Mesocotyl length and germination rate in the dark condition in F3 lines showed significant correlation (r = 0.7, P < 0.0001). 95 $F_3$ lines were genotyped with RM7419 on chromosome 1. ANOVA showed that RM7419 was tightly linked to QTLs for photoblastism as well as mesocotyl length on chromosome 1 (P < 0.0001) indicating the tight linkage of two QTLs. Fine mapping of the two QTL is underway to analyze their functional relationship.

QTL mapping of low-temperature germinability and identification of qLTG1 candidate genes in rice

  • Low-temperature is one of the environmental stress factors that affect plant growth and development and consequently limit crop productivity. The control of seed germination under low-temperature is organized by many genes which are called quantitative trait loci (QTLs). High germination rate for low-temperature is an important factor of growing rice. Previously, we identified a major QTL controlling low-temperature germinability in rice using 96 introgression lines (ILs) derived from a cross between Oryza rufipogon (Rufi) and the Korean japonica cultivar, 'Hwaseongbyeo (HS)'. A $BC_3F_7$ line (TR5) showed better low-temperature germinability than its recurrent parent. TR5 was crossed with HS to develop a segregating F2:3 populations for the target QTL. Six SSR markers polymorphic between HS and Rufi were used to screen and fine map the qLTG1. The qLTG1 on chromosome 1, which accounted for 55.5% of the total phenotypic variation, confirmed that Rufi allele enhanced the low-temperature germinability. Intervals between markers CRM16 and CRM15, four candidate genes were identified. The identified candidate genes, which are encoded by a protein of unknown function, showed their direct involvement on seed germination at low-temperature. To identify genes targeted by qLTG1, we investigated the expression profiles of these candidate genes and germination behavior of qLTG1 under different stress conditions and compared to HS, Rufi, and TR5 at $13{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 3 days after incubation. Furthermore, transgenic rice plants will also be developed to conduct a detailed investigation on low-temperature germinability. Hence, the QTL for low-temperature germinability would be useful in rice breeding programs especially in the development of lines possessing low-temperature germinability.

Genome-wide Linkage Study for Plasma HDL Cholesterol Level in an Isolated Population of Mongolia

  • High-density lipoprotein (HDL) whose primary role is to transport cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver, is associated with the incidence of coronary heart disease. We analyzed HDL cholesterol levels in a genetically isolated population of extended Mongolian families. A total of 1002 individuals (54.5% women) from 95 families were enrolled. After genotyping by use of 1000 microsatellite markers, we performed a genome-wide linkage search with variance component analysis. The estimated heritability of HDL cholesterol was 0.45, revealing that HDL cholesterol was under significant genetic influence. We found peak evidence of linkage (LOD score=1.88) for HDL cholesterol level on chromosome 6 (nearest marker D6S1660) and potential evidences for linkage on chromosomes 1, 12 and 19 with the LOD scores of 1.32, 1.44 and 1.14, respectively. These results should pave the way for the discovery of the relevant genes by fine mapping and association analysis.

원화의 음영 캡쳐 기반 카툰 캐릭터 렌더링 (Cartoon Character Rendering based on Shading Capture of Concept Drawing)

  • 3차원 캐릭터 모델의 만화적 표현을 위하여 일반적으로 사용되고 있는 기존의 카툰렌더링 방법들은 아티스트가 직접 그린 원화의 표현을 그대로 살리는데 한계가 있다. 본 논문에서는 원화로부터 만화적인 음영모델을 캡쳐하는 기술을 제안하고 이를 이용하여 3차원 캐릭터 모델을 효과적으로 카툰 렌더링하는 새로운 시스템을 제공한다. 이 시스템의 특징은 음영을 캡쳐한 후에 캐릭터 모델의 만화적 특성을 부각시키기 위하여 음영을 이용하여 형태를 강조하는 알고리즘을 포함하며 아티스트가 포스트 프러덕션으로 음영을 편집할 수 있는 스케치 기반 인터페이스를 지원하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 선택된 영역의 색상 분포와 비율을 분석하는 RGB 색상 정렬 알고리즘을 이용하여 카툰 텍스처를 자동으로 생성하는 방법론을 제시한다. 또한 캐릭터의 형태적 특성을 강조하기 위하여 세일리언시 기반 카툰 렌더링 알고리즘을 제안하며, 음영을 지역적으로 편집하는 스케치 인터페이스를 제공한다. 마지막으로 사용자 평가를 통하여 제안하는 시스템의 유용성을 입증한다.

Current Insights into Research on Rice stripe virus

  • Rice stripe virus (RSV) is one of the most destructive viruses of rice, and greatly reduces rice production in China, Japan, and Korea, where mostly japonica cultivars of rice are grown. RSV is transmitted by the small brown plant-hopper (SBPH) in a persistent and circulative-propagative manner. Several methods have been developed for detection of RSV, which is composed of four single-stranded RNAs that encode seven proteins. Genome sequence data and comparative phylogenetic analysis have been used to identify the origin and diversity of RSV isolates. Several rice varieties resistant to RSV have been selected and QTL analysis and fine mapping have been intensively performed to map RSV resistance loci or genes. RSV genes have been used to generate several genetically modified transgenic rice plants with RSV resistance. Recently, genome-wide transcriptome analyses and deep sequencing have been used to identify mRNAs and small RNAs involved in RSV infection; several rice host factors that interact with RSV proteins have also been identified. In this article, we review the current statues of RSV research and propose integrated approaches for the study of interactions among RSV, rice, and the SBPH.

Interfacial modulus mapping of layered dental ceramics using nanoindentation

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to test the modulus of elasticity (E) across the interfaces of yttria stabilized zirconia (YTZP) / veneer multilayers using nanoindentation. MATERIALS AND METHODS. YTZP core material (KaVo-Everest, Germany) specimens were either coated with a liner (IPS e.max ZirLiner, Ivoclar-Vivadent) (Type-1) or left as-sintered (Type-2) and subsequently veneered with a pressable glass-ceramic (IPS e.max ZirPress, Ivoclar-Vivadent). A $5{\mu}m$ (nominal tip diameter) spherical indenter was used with a UMIS CSIRO 2000 (ASI, Canberra, Australia) nanoindenter system to test E across the exposed and polished interfaces of both specimen types. The multiple point load - partial unload method was used for E determination. All materials used were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X - ray powder diffraction (XRD). E mappings of the areas tested were produced from the nanoindentation data. RESULTS. A significantly (P<.05) lower E value between Type-1 and Type-2 specimens at a distance of $40{\mu}m$ in the veneer material was associated with the liner. XRD and SEM characterization of the zirconia sample showed a fine grained bulk tetragonal phase. IPS e-max ZirPress and IPS e-max ZirLiner materials were characterized as amorphous. CONCLUSION. The liner between the YTZP core and the heat pressed veneer may act as a weak link in this dental multilayer due to its significantly (P<.05) lower E. The present study has shown nanoindentation using spherical indentation and the multiple point load - partial unload method to be reliable predictors of E and useful evaluation tools for layered dental ceramic interfaces.

GPS 코드의사거리 기반 정밀단독측위(PPP) 알고리즘 개발 및 측위 정확도 평가 (Development and Positioning Accuracy Assessment of Precise Point Positioning Algorithms based on GPS Code-Pseudorange Measurements)

  • 휴대용 단말에 간편하게 구현 가능하도록 GPS의 코드의사거리 관측치 기반의 정밀단독측위(PPP; Precise Point Positioning) 알고리즘을 개발하고 그 성능을 검증하였다. PPP에 필요한 기본 모델로 그룹 딜레이, 상대성 효과, 위성안테나 위상중심오프셋 보정모델을 적용하였다. 위성 궤도와 시계오차는 IGS(International GNSS Service) 공식 산출물에 최적의 알고리즘을 통해 보간하고, 대류권과 전리층 오차는 각각 과학기술용 GPS 자료처리 소프트웨어로 산출한 참값과 GIM(Global Ionosphere Model)을 사상함수를 적용해 시선방향 오차로 변환해 적용하였다. 개발된 알고리즘을 4일간 테스트한 결과 수평오차는 0.8~1.6m, 수직오차는 1.6~2.2m 수준으로 나타났다. 이는 DGPS 측위결과와 유사한 성능으로 향후 PPP 알고리즘의 추가개선이 이루어질 경우 다양한 측량 및 위치기반서비스 분야에 활용 가능할 것으로 기대된다.
