  • Ultra high strength concrete (UHSC) originally proposed by Richards and Cheyrezy (1995) composed of cement, silica fume, quartz sand, quartz powder, steel fibers, superplasticizer etc. Later, other ingredients such as fly ash, GGBS, metakaoline, copper slag, fine aggregate of different sizes have been added to original UHSC. In the present investigation, the combined effect of coarse aggregate (6mm - 10mm) and steel fibers (0.50%, 1.0% and 1.5%) has been studied on UHSC mixes to evaluate mechanical and fracture properties. Compressive strength, split tensile strength and modulus of elasticity were determined for the three UHSC mixes. Size dependent fracture energy was evaluated by using RILEM work of fracture and size independent fracture energy was evaluated by using (i) RILEM work of fracture with tail correction to load - deflection plot (ii) boundary effect method. The constitutive relationship between the residual stress carrying capacity (σ) and the corresponding crack opening (w) has been constructed in an inverse manner based on the concept of a non-linear hinge from the load-crack mouth opening plots of notched three-point bend beams. It was found that (i) the size independent fracture energy obtained by using above two approaches yielded similar value and (ii) tensile stress increases with the increase of % of fibers. These two fracture properties will be very much useful for the analysis of cracked concrete structural components.

  • In this research the processing method of Desulfurized Plaster is changed to cyclotomy, 0.3mm sieve analysis and 500℃ heat exposure, and by changing the mix rate of the binding agent to 0~20%, it was applied to mortar that used natural aggregate and blast furnace slag for testing. The test results showed that the sieve analysis and high heat exposure of the flow and air volume increased according to the increase of mixing rate of FGD while the cyclotomy decreased. The setting time accelerated as the mixing rate of FGD increased, and the compression strength increased to its maximum when the mixing rate of FGD was right around 10%, and especially showed a high trend with cyclotomy and sieve analysis.

  • Most difficulties of inducing high fluidity on the concrete mixing design with a strength range of 210 to 240kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ result from the segregation of aggregates due to the shortage of cementitious binders. To solve the problem, this study concentrated on finding the optimized amount of binder material which does not affect the concrete strength and is also economical. Also there were studies on the use of intermediate sized aggregates to avoid the gap-grading between coarse and fine aggregates so that the material segregation in high flowing concrete was and minimalized the fluidity and penetration capacity of the reinforcing bars was enhanced. Throughout the parametric study with respect to water/binder ratio. superplasticizer. replaceable mineral admixture, the size of coarse aggregate and mixing methods, the effect of each constituent on the characteristics of high flowing concrete could be observed. As a result or partially using stone powder or an intermediate class of aggregate (max. diameter 13mm) . it was fund that the fluidity of concrete significantly increased without material segregation and any change of compressive strengths. It was also proved in this study that proper mixing time and speed are significant factors influence the performence of high flowing concrete.

  • This study used a volumetric method for design. The control group used waste Liquid Crystal Displayplay (LCD) glass powder to replace cement (0%, 10%, 20%, 30%), and the PZT group used Pd-Zr-Ti piezoelectric (PZT) powder to replace 5% of the fine aggregate to make cement mortar. The engineering and the mechanical and electricity properties were tested; flow, compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption and resistivity (SSD and OD electricity at 50 V and 100 V) were determined; and the correlations were determined by linear regression. The compressive strength of the control group (29.5-31.8 MPa) was higher than that of the PZT group (25.1-29 MPa) by 2.8-4.4 MPa at the curing age of 28 days. A 20% waste LCD glass powder replacement (31.8 MPa) can fill up finer pores and accelerate hydration. The control group had a higher 50 V-SSD resistivity ($1870-3244{\Omega}.cm$), and the PZT group had a lower resistivity ($1419-3013{\Omega}.cm$), meaning that the resistivity increases with the replacement of waste LCD glass powder. This is because the waste LCD glass powder contains 62% $SiO_2$, which is a low dielectric material that is an insulator. Therefore, the resistivity increases with the $SiO_2$ content.

  • Oyster shell is produced by shucking process in oyster farming in southern coast of Korea. In average, about 6.7kg of oyster shell is produced as an industrial waste for 1kg of oyster flesh, and even only in last year, it is estimated that about 150,000 ton of oyster shell is produced. Oyster shell is light weighted and its strength characteristic is similar to sand. So we produced mortar test piece using grounded oyster shell powder under 0.6mm, 0.6~1.2mm, 1.2~2.5mm, 2.5~5.0mm of its particle size according to fine aggregate standard and reviewed strength Properties.

  • This study was performed to evaluate compressive strength, flexural strength, static modulus of elasticity, stress-strain ratio and durability of abrasion on EVA concrete reinforced steel fiber (SF) in order to use hydraulic structures, underground utilities, offshore structures and structures being applied soil contaminated area. It is used ordinary portland cement, crushed coarse aggregate, nature fine aggregate, EVA redispersible polymer powder, superplasticizer and deforming agent to find optimum mix design of EVA concrete reinforced steel fiber. EVA concrete reinforced SF was effected on the improvement of mechanical properties and durability of abrasion.

  • Borosilicate glass was incorporated to improve the neutron shielding capability of concrete. Boron is a typical neutron shielding material, and it is contained in borosilicate glass. However, borosilicate glass causes alkali-silica reaction, which damages the concrete. Therefore, studied to reduce the expansion due to alkali-silica reaction and to improve the neuton shielding capability. The measurement of the expansion due to the alkali-silica reaction was based on ASTM C 1260. Experimental results show that the expansion due to alkali-silica reaction is reduced when borosilicate glass powder incorporated. In addition, the neutron shielding capability was significantly improved when the fine aggregate replaced with borosilicate glass.
