Analysis of The Effects of NIE Approach in Financial Education on College Students: Focusing on Financial Literacy and Financial Management Behavior (NIE 학습방법을 통한 대학생 금융교육의 효과 분석: 금융이해력과 재무관리행동을 중심으로)

  • This study analyzed the effects of the NIE (Newspaper in Education) learning method on the financial education of college students, focusing on how financial literacy impacts financial management behavior. For this purpose, college students enrolled in finance courses were divided into two groups: the experimental group, which participated in the NIE program, and the control group, which did not. After implementing the NIE program, independent sample t-tests and multiple regression analyses were conducted. The results of the study are as follows: First, in terms of sub-elements of financial literacy, the financial attitude in the experimental group was higher than in the control group. Second, there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of financial knowledge and behavior. Third, in the experimental group, financial knowledge had a significant positive effect on financial management behavior. The results of this study confirmed that the NIE learning method is considerably effective in financial education, which is essential for college students to fulfill their role as economic agents leading sound financial lives.

  • This paper analyzes the independent financial advisory business that is not yet active in Korea and proposes a plan to activate the independent financial advisory business using fintech technology. A bill was enacted in 2017 for the domestic independent financial advisory business, but it has not been activated much until now for various reasons. Although existing studies have proposed solutions in various ways, there is no clear solution yet. This paper proposes a new method of revitalizing the independent financial advisory business through fintech technology using the trust system that has recently attracted attention. Digital securities fintech technology using blockchain distributed ledger technology presents new possibilities in the real estate and music copyright markets, and related fintech venture companies continue to emerge in Korea. By combining these digital securities fintech technologies and the business process of ETF, a method was derived so that independent financial advisors can have their own financial products. The proposed model is more decentralized than the existing financial product sales structure, and presents the possibility of a protocol economy through a structure close to a private blockchain while complying with the existing financial order. This paper is meaningful in that it presented new solutions to completely different markets from information convergence perspectives on two completely different markets, and we hope that more business solutions will emerge through knowledge management activities that converge various perspectives in the future.

  • Financial planning in the United States has evolved since 1980 from a field comprised of specialists, such as insurance agents, bankers, accountants, and stock brokers, offering particular services to clients, to the situation today, where most professionals offering financial services to households market themselves as comprehensive financial planners. The breadth of knowledge required for financial planning can be seen in the 106 topics covered by the Certified Financial Planner(CFP) Exam. This study reviews the actual conditions of financial planning in the U.S. including suppliers of financial services to household, the philosophy of financial planning, and the financial planning process as described by the CFP Board. Also, this study discusses related research about problems and challenges faced by households in financial planning in the U.S.

The Expectation of Future Financial Situation of Employed and Unemployed Wives in Household (주부의 취업여부에 따른 가계재정상태에 대한 기대감)

  • The purpose of this study was to test a causal model of employed and unemployed wives on the basis of the family resource management system theory. The data of this study were obtained from 244 wives who lived in Seoul and were financial mangers. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. Both employed and unemployed wives, knowledge of financial management was significantly predictor of financial planning. That is, household financial mangers with more financial knowlege used more effective planning behaviors than did those financial managers with less financial konwlege. This results emphasize the significance of enhancing the financial konwledge in the household financial management. 2. For unemployed wives, expectation of household’s future financial condition was influenced by age, household income, locus of control over their financial situation, and perception of financial management’s effectiveness. The strongest predictor of expectation of the household’s future financial situation was age. Younger managers were more optimistic about the future. 3. The findings of this study support theoretical framework on the basis of the family resource management system theory, both for employed and unemployed wives.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine a path model that investigated the relations among socioeconomic variables. financial management and financial satisfaction of urban households. for this purpose conceptual framework based on the system theory of family resource management was suggested. Data were collected from questionaire with 254 financial managers who were residents of Seoul. The major findings of this study were as follows: (1) The variables that effected financial satisfaction directly ere financial knowledge monthly saving amounts the gap between the level and standard of living and financial implementing. The financial planning effected indirectly on financial satsfaction through financial implementing. (2) The findings of this study provided support for a systems approach to family financial management. There result indicated that it is the combined effect of inputs and throughputs that effects the output of financial satisfaction.

  • Many Korean financial firms have built knowledge management systems, however, most of the systems have fragmentary ideas or suggestions. This study proposes the model of ontology-based knowledge repository through which one could integrate knowledge for business use in the BPM environments. The knowledge includes implicit and explicit knowledge. library materials, documents, and information for experts as well. In order to get basic ideas for this model, case studies utilized interviews and surveys were conducted targeting at four Korean banks' knowledge managers, librarians and thirty staffs.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore relationships among technology development strategy, marketing competence, knowledge management competence, and company performance of textile and clothing companies. Survey data collected from 187 employees in the textile and clothing companies were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. In results, certain levels of correlations were found among technological development strategy, marketing competence, knowledge management competence, and company performance. Specifically, technological gap which was one of the technology development strategy factors was a variable significantly affecting innovation performance and financial performance of textile and clothing companies. Knowledge management competence affected innovation performance whereas marketing competence affected financial competence of textile and clothing companies.

  • Korea Credit Guarantee Fund(KODIT) is a public financial institution under the provision of the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund Act. Facing the waves of change both locally and globally, KODIT will serve as 'social value creator' in making a paradigm shift from a large corporation(Conglomerate-dominated) economy to a social enterprise-oriented one based on social economy. This study focuses on the supporting service programs for social enterprises and job creation how it affects the performance of social value creation of KODIT. There is currently no detailed research of the social value in terms of the business and management academic agenda. Therefore, the present study describes the importance of social value creation on the policy financial institution. This study conducted in-depth case study for social value performance. As a public policy financial institution, KODIT exert diverse efforts to correct market failure and achieve inclusive growth. For example, KODIT extends credit guarantee services for the liabilities of promising corporations and stimulates financial and non-financial supporting programs for social enterprises. Although the role of social value and social economy has gained business field attention, few investigations have been conducted to explain how social value is achieved. The present study can thus act as the foundation for exploring the social value creation in the circumstances of public financial institution.

An analysis of determinants of individual's pension purchase using structural equation model (구조방정식을 활용한 개인연금 가입의 결정요인 분석)

  • This study empirically analyzes casual relationships among psychological and financial factors influencing the subscription of individual pension and identifies mediation effect by the structural equation model. The analysis based on survey data (N=928) from common people living in the seven major cities in Korea shows that potential longevity, coping efficacy to the financial risks from longevity, subjective knowledge on longevity (cognitive factor), trust in insurers (social factor), and financial literacy(financial factor) are key players exercising direct influence over the subscription of individual pension. It also has been shown that affect on longevity, potential longevity, trust in government, and coping efficacy influence the emotions on longevity, fear and worry, and emotions on longevity are not significant in explaining the subscription of individual pension. Trust in insurers and financial knowledge of prospects have also been reaffirmed to be crucial factors in the activation of individual pension subscription.

From Financial Literacy to Financial Capability: A Preliminary Study of Difference Generations in Informal Labor Market

  • This study aims to investigate whether financial attitude links financial literacy to financial capability. To make sound financial decisions, one essentially requires a certain level of financial literacy - knowledge and skill in finance. Even more effective is when one's financial literacy could be developed into financial capability. The samples comprised 342 individuals from informal labor in the South of Thailand. The stratified multistage sampling technique was utilized to select the respondents, while the interview questionnaires were used to collect the data. By using SmartPLS 3.0, the data analysis included descriptive statistics and structural equation modeling (SEM). The result revealed that the one with the highest debt was Gen Y compared to Gen B and Gen X. Considering financial literacy, financial attitude, and financial capacity across generations, it was found that Gen Y had the highest average score in financial literacy and financial capacity, higher than that of Gen X and Gen B. The impact of financial literacy on financial capability through financial attitude, it was found that the impact on Gen B was higher than that of Gen X and Gen Y. With the right financial attitude, people of all generations would be equipped with a higher level of financial capability.
