Heat transfer characteristic near a sharp fin in a supersonic flow was studied. Infra-red thermography was used to obtain the variation of surface heat transfer coefficient distribution. The attack angle of fin is ranged from $10^{\circ}\;to\;20^{\circ}$ and the oil flow method was also conducted to understand a flow field near a sharp fin.
The non-dimensional heat loss from a thermally asymmetric triangular fin is investigated as a function of a ratio of upper and lower surface Biot numbers (Bi2/Bi1), the non-dimensional fin length and tip surface Biot number using the two-dimensional separation of variables method. The effect of fin tip surface Biot number on the variation of the non-dimensional temperature along the sloped upper and lower surfaces for the thermally asymmetric condition is presented. The relationship between the non-dimensional fin length and the fin tip surface Biot number for equal amount of heat loss is also discussed as well as the relationship between upper surface Biot number and tip surface Biot number for equal amount of heat loss.

Heat transfer and pressure drop on the air side of a plate-louvered fin heat exchanger with new shape of louver fin have been investigated experimentally. Water is employed inside the flat tube to transfer heat with air for convenience. This problem is of particular interest in the design of a plate-louvered heat exchanger. The effect of air flow rate, water flow rate and water temperature on pressure drop as well as heat transfer in air side are studied in detail. The present results showed a good agreement qualitatively with the previous results in general. Based on the experimental data, f-factor and j -factor correlations of the present louvered-fin are suggested. It is also found that heat transfer could be enhanced with new shape of louver fin, compared with the conventional louvered-fin, while the f-factor remains unchanged.

Fin conduction not only enhances heat transfer to the ambient air but also increases tube-to-tube conduction. The latter is known to deteriorate the heat exchanger performance. Heat conduction between neighboring tubes thorough the fin is numerically investigated for accurate performance analysis of plate finned-tube heat exchangers. Governing equations for arbitrary plate fin are solved and the temperature distribution is obtained using the principle of superposition. Analysis is made using finite element method by changing the shapes of fin, the arrangements of tubes and the fin parameter mD. It is found that tube-to-tube conduction is significant when mD is small or the distance between neighboring tubes is small.

Heat transfer and pressure drop for single phase flow of water in circular smooth and micro-fin tubes are measured. Copper tubes of 9.52 and 7mm outer diameter were used. The internal roughness in micro-fin tubes was formed by spiral grooves having $25^{\circ}$ helx angle, 0. 12mm fin height and 0.454mm pitch in 9.52mm tubes; $18^{\circ}$ helix angle, 0.15mm fin height and 0.322mm pitch in 7mm tubes. The measured friction factor and heat transfer coefficient are compared with relevant previous works, and the correlations for micro-fin tube are developed.
This paper proposes an improved mathematical model for predicting the frosting behavior on a two-dimensional fin considering the heat conduction of heat exchanger fins under frosting conditions. The model consists of laminar flow equation in airflow, diffusion equation of water vapor for frost layer, and heat conduction equation in fin, and these are coupled together. In this model, the change in three-dimensional airside airflow caused by frost growth is accounted for. The fin surface temperature increased toward the fin tip due to the fin heat conduction. On the contrary, the temperature gradient in the airflow direction(x-dir.) is small throughout the entire fin. The frost thickness in the direction perpendicular to airflow, i.e. z-dir., decreases exponentially toward the fin tip due to non-uniform temperature distribution. The rate of decrease of heat transfer in the airflow direction is high compared to that in the z-direction due to more decrease in the sensible and latent heat rate in x-direction.

An experimental investigation was made to study the performance characteristics of evaporator having different fin configurations and tube inner grooves. Three different types of fin such as super slitted fin, slitted fin, plain fin, and two types of tube such as inner grooved tube, and bare tube, are tested varying the air velocity, evaporation temperature and superheat of refrigerant. Results show that in the range of air side Reynolds number $3{\times}10^3\;-\;1.5{\times}10^4$ evaporator with super slitted fin and inner grooved tube shows best performance. It is 80% higher in overall heat transfer coefficient and 2.6 times higher in pressure loss compared to that with plain fin inner grooved tube. Friction factor is found to be almost independent of evaporating temperature and degree of superheat, while Colburn j factor varies with evaporating temperature.
In this paper, temperature distributions in radial fin of rectangular profile for steady-state with no heat generation are obtained by one-dimensional analytical method, finite difference method and experiment respectively. Heat flow rate and fin efficiency from the fin model are obtained by analytical method. Consequently, temperature distributions in radial fin can certify that are similar to exact solution. From theoretical analysis, the effects according to heat flow rate and fin efficiency are related to variation of parameters which are fin thickness ${\delta}_o$, fin base temperature $T_o$, thermal conductivity K with same basic dimensions and the effects are studied and compared.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate the effect of the tube row and fin spacing on the air-side heat transfer and friction characteristics of fin-tube heat exchangers with slit fin pattern. A total of twelve samples of fin-tube heat exchangers with the nominal tube diameter of 7 mm, transverse tube pitch of 19 mm and longitudinal tube pitch of 12.5 mm are tested. The thermal fluid measurements are made using a psychometric calorimeter. The raw data are reduced to the desired heat transfer coefficient in terms of j-factor and friction factor of f for various frontal air velocities, fin pitches and number of tube rows.

In this paper, temperature distributions in radial fin of hyperbolic profile for steady -state with no heat generation are obtained by one-dimensional analytical method, finite difference method and experiment respectively. Heat flow rate and fin efficiency from the fin model are obtained by analytical method. To compare the exact solutions obtained by theoretical analysis with the results obtained by finite difference method, cylindrical shape is selected. Particularly, equations of finite difference method for cylindrical shape with irregular boundary are rearranged and formulated. Consequently, temperature distributions in radial fin can certify that are similar to exact solutions. From theoretical analysis, the effects according to heat flow rate and fin efficiency are related to variation of parameters which are fin thickness ${\delta}_o$, fin base temperature $T_o$, thermal conductivity K with same basic dimensions and the fleets are studied and compared.
