  • In this study an adaptive algorithm with optimum convergence factor for steepest descent method is proposed, which controls automatically the filter order to take the appropriate level. So far, fixed order filters have been used when adaptive filter is employed according to the priori knowledge or experience in various adaptive signal processing applications. But, it is so difficult to know the filter order needed in real implementations that high order filters have to be performed. As a result, redundant calculations are increased in the case of high order filters. The proposed variable length optimum convergence factor (VLOCF) algorithm takes the appropriated filter order within the given one so that the redundant calculation is decreased to get the enhancement of convergence speed and smaller convergence error during the steady state. The proposed algorithm is evaluated to prove the validity by computer simulation for system Identification.

  • In this paper, we proposed image enhancement method using sharpening filter for improving the accuracy of object detection using the existing Grabcut algorithm. GrabCut algorithm is the excellent performance extracting an object within a rectangular window range, but it has the drawback of the inferior performance in image with no clear distinction between background and objects. So, in this paper, reinforcing the brightness and clarity through histogram equalization, and tightening the border of the object using the sharpening filter look better than that extracted result of existing GrabCut algorithm in a similar image of the object and the background. Based on improved Grabcut algorithm, it is possible to obtain an improved result in the image processing convergence technique of character recognition, real-time object tracking and so on.

  • In a conventional adaptive echo canceller, an ADF(Adaptive Digital Filter) with TDL(Tapped-Delay Line) structure modelling the echo path uses the LMS(Least Mean Square) algorithm to compute the coefficients, and NET detector using energy comparison method prevents the ADF to update the coefficients during the periods of the NET signal presence. The convergence speed of the LMS algorithm depends on the eigenvalue spread ratio of the reference signal and NET detector using the energy comparison method yields poor detection performance if the magnitude of the NET signal is small. This paper presents a new adaptive echo canceller which uses the pre-whitening filter to improve the convergence speed of the LMS algorithm. The pre-whitening filter is realized by using a low-order lattice predictor. Also, a new NET signal detection algorithm is presented, where the start point of the NET signal is detected by computing the cross-correlation coefficient between the primary input and the ADF output while the end point is detected by using the energy comparison method. The simulation results show that the convergence speed of the proposed adaptive echo canceller is faster than that of the conventional echo canceller and the cross-correlation coefficient yields more accurate detection of the start point of the NET signal.

  • An adaptive echo canceller is necessary for an application such as a speakerphone, 3G image telephony and VoIP service system. These echo cancellers need to have many taps for filtering echo signals. Many taps cause computation data to increase and convergence speed to be low. To overcome these problems, An adaptive echo canceller with the advanced convergence speed is proposed in this paper. To improve the speed, we divide an echo band into subbands and place a subband filter to be adaptive for each subband. Each subband filter recognizes the echo signal as subband echo signals. So, dynamic range of subband is small, the convergence speed is fast. Moreover, as the number of Tap and weight update are estimated in each subband, the implementation complex of a adaptive filter is low.

  • In the radio communication, such as echo cancellation and channel equalization, adaptive filtering is very practical. Its convergence behavior that is used for updating the weights depends on the correlation of the input signal and length of adaptive filter. Highly correlated input and long length of adaptive filter deteriorate the convergence behavior. To solve this problem, recently, subband affine projection algorithm which pre-whiten the correlation of the input and update the weights in subband structure has been presented. This paper presents convergence analysis method of multiple constrained subband affine projection algorithm.

  • Sericite is used as a raw material for ceramics and paints, and recently it is widely used as adsorbents to remove heavy metals in wastewater. A new air filter containing sericite was developed using the principle of which components contained in the sericite react with moisture in the air to release oxygen. We tested whether the newly developed air filter actually improves fuel efficiency when mounted on a diesel vehicle. When the diesel vehicle used in the test was warmed up, the fuel efficiency increased by 10~17% compared to when an existing air filter was installed. However, the effect of the developed air filter on the amount of emissions (HC, CO, NOx) has not been investigated, and further research is required for the diesel vehicle emissions.

  • In this paper, an efficient signal interference control technique to improve the convergence speed of LMS algorithm is introduced. The convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm, whose coefficients are multiply adapted in a symbol time period by recycling the received data, are analyzed to prove theoretically the improvement of convergence speed. According as thestep-size parameter ${\mu}$ is increased, the rate of convergence of the algorithm is controlled. Increasing the eigenvalue spread has the effect of controlling down the rate of convergence of the adaptive equalizer and also increasing the steady-state value of the average squared error and also demonstrate the superiority of signal interference control to the filter algorithm increasing convergence speed by (B+1) times due to the data-recycling LMS technique.

  • In this paper, a new interference rejection filter using the data-recycling technique is presented. The reference signal of the interference rejection filter is formed by using chip decisions, which is correlated with the narrowband interference components of the received signal. The decision feedback techniques reduce the distortion of the desired signal, which is introduced by the interference rejection filter through he use of feedback chip decisions. In order to update the filter coefficients a simple and efficient data-recycling technique that has improved performance over the conventional LMS algorithm is used. The performance of the proposed interference rejection filter is compared to filter with conventional LMS linear filter. The results show that the convergence speed of the proposed interference rejection filter using decision feedback and data-recycling technique is significantly faster than that of the conventional filters. Also, BER performance of the interference rejection filter demonstrates the superiority of the proposed filter algorithm.

  • Determinations of conformal map from the unit disk onto a Jordan region are reduced to solve the Theodorsen equation which is an integral equation for the boundary correspondence function. Among numerical conformal maps the Wegmann's method is well known as a Newton efficient one for solving Theodorsen equation. However this method has not so wide class of convergence. We proposed as an improved method for convergence by applying a low frequency filter to the Wegmann's method. In this paper, we investigate error analysis and propose an automatic algorithm based on this analysis.
