  • This paper proposes a intelligent approach on range decision of figure of merit. Unknown range of the underwater target and the non-fixed signal excess make the uncertainty for the tracking process. Using the input data of signal excess related to the range, we establish the rule of the fuzzy set and the original data acquired by sonar can be transformed to the fuzzified data set. To reduce the error arisen from the unexpected data, we use the new data transformed in fuzzy set. The piecewise relations of the min value, max one, and the mean one are calculated. The three values are used for the expected range of the underwater target. By analysing the fluctuation of the data, we can expect the target's position and the characteristics of the maneuvering. The examples are presented to show the performance and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In n/${\gamma}$ mixed field of $^{241}Am-Be$(${\alpha}$, n) neutron source, we seperated the neutron component from gamma ray component. At the center of the detector, $^6Li$ was doped on the cerium activated glass plate for $^6Li$(${\alpha}$, n)T nuclear reaction. The time differences of the light following excitations by different scintillators, BC501($C_8H_{10}$) and cerium, and by the same scintillator for different radiations as neutrons and gamma-rays are used to apply the methods of PSD(Pulse Shape Discriminator) and CFD(Constant Fraction Discriminator). The figure of merit of $^6Li$ fast neutron spectrometer is estimated as 1.36.

  • As a new approache(extrusion-sintering process) to fabricate the thermoelectric materials, it has been at tempted to extrude and sinter the powders simultaneously. It was possible to produce the highly dense <$(Bi,Sb)_2(Te,Se)_3$-based thermoelectrics with sound surface appearances and microstructures by adjusting the process variables. For the p-type materials, the Seeback coefficient was increased with the amount of Te dopants, and the thermoelectric figure of merit appeared to be $2.5\times10^{-3}/K$ at room temperature when doped with 3 at % Te. The n-type specimen doped with 0.16 mol% $SbI_3$ showed the thermoelectric figure of merit of $1.8\times10^{-3}/K$. In both p-type an 우-type materials, the carrier mobility an the thermoelectric figure of merit parallel to the extrusion direction were higher than those perpendicular to it.

  • Typical Mn-SnO2/Ag/Mn-SnO2 tri-layer films were prepared on a PET substrate by RF/DC magnetron sputtering method at room temperature. Based on EMP simulation, the thicknesses of the top and bottom Mn-doped SnO2 layers were kept at 40 nm and the Ag layer was maintained at 13 nm for continuous electrical conduction. The experimentally measured optical transmittances at 550 nm wavelength were ranged from 82.9 to 88.1 % and sheet resistances were varied from 5.9 to 6.9 Ω/☐. The highest value of figure of merit, ϕTC was 48.1 × 10-3 Ω-1. Based on bending test under 4 and 5 mm of inner and outer curvature radius condition, tri-layer film resistance varies only by approximately 1.5 % after 10,000 bending cycles, showing excellent mechanical flexibility.

  • One dimensional magneto-photonic crystal having structure of (A/B)$^{k/W}$(B/A)$^{k}$ , where M is a magnetic layer of highly Bi-substituted iron garnet, A and B are dielectric layers of $SiO_2$ and T $a_2$O$_{5/}$, and k is the stacking number of the dielectric layers, has been numerically analyzed as a function of the thickness (d$_{M}$) of M (1∼535 nm) and the stacking numer of k (5∼15). The transmittance, Faraday rotation, and figure of merit of the magneto-photonic crystal have been investigated both in the visible and infrared wavelengths. A factor of several and several tens greater Faraday rotation and figure of merit have been obtained compared to the single layer of M, at many localized modes. In the visible the maximum figure of merit of 0.15 was obtained ( = 720 nm) when k = 11 and d$_{M}$ = 375 nm with T : 0.54, $\theta$$_{F}$ = 8.13$^{\circ}$, which was a factor of 30 greater than that of single garnet layer. Much greater maximum figure of merit, 0.285, was obtained in the infrared ( = 1114 nm) when k = 11 and d$_{M}$ = 800 nm with T = 0.66, $\theta$$_{F}$ = 18$^{\circ}$, which was a factor of 100 greater than that of single garnet layer.

  • Designing a new signal is essential in the development of a new Radio Navigation Satellite Service (RNSS) system. This paper introduces the signal design parameters and the figures of merit (FoMs) to be considered in designing a new RNSS signal, and then reviews their relationship in details. In addition, we show examples of the trade-off analysis between FoMs according to the signal design scenarios using an analytical simulation tool based on the relationship between the signal design parameters and the FoMs.

  • Transparent and conductive ZnO/Ag/SnO2 (ZAS) tri-layer films were deposited onto glass substrates at room temperature by using radio frequency (RF) and direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. The thickness values of the ZnO and $SnO_2$ thin films were kept constant at 50 nm and the value for Ag interlayer was varied as 5, 10, 15, and 20 nm. In the XRD pattern the diffraction peaks were identified as the (002) and (103) planes of ZnO, while the (111), (200), (220), and (311) planes could be attributed to the Ag interlayer. The optical transmittance and electrical resistivity were dependent on the thickness of the Ag interlayer. The ZAS films with a 10 nm thick Ag interlayer exhibited a higher figure of merit than the other ZAS films prepared in this study. From the observed results, a ZAS film with a 10 nm thick Ag interlayer was believed to be an alternative transparent electrode candidate for various opto-electrical devices.

  • Spray pyrolysis method was applied for the preparation of indium oxide ($In_2O_3$) thin films, by varying the substrate temperature range from 400-$600^{\circ}C$. All the samples were characterized at room temperature by using X-Ray diffraction, Scanning electron microscopy, Atomic Force Microscopy, Hall Effect and UV-Visible spectrophotometry. The optimal substrate temperature required for obtaining films of high crystallographic quality was $575^{\circ}C$. By comparing optical transmittance and electrical conductivity it was observed that the best figure of merit for these films was achieved for the same temperature and electrical resistivity was in the order of ${\rho}=1.47{\times}10^{-1}[{\Omega}cm]$. Gas sensing measurements of the films in ethanol showed enhancement with surface roughness and sheet resistance.

  • A significant enhancement of the magneto-optical Faraday rotation and extraordinary optical transmission (EOT) in the cascaded double-fishnet (CDF) structure with periodic rectangular apertures is theoretically predicted by using the extended finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. The results demonstrate that the transmittance spectrum of the CDF structure has two EOT resonant peaks in a broad spectrum spanning visible to near-infrared wavebands, one of them coinciding with the enhanced Faraday rotation and large figure of merit (FOM) at the same wavelength. It is most important that the resonant position and intensity of the transmittance, Faraday rotation and FOM can be simply tailored by adjusting the incident wavelength, the thickness of the magnetic layer, and the offset between two metallic rectangular apertures, etc. Furthermore, the intrinsic physical mechanism of the resonance characteristics of the transmittance and Faraday rotation is thoroughly studied by investigating the electromagnetic field distributions at the location of resonance. It is shown that the transmittance resonance is mainly determined by different hybrid modes of surface plasmons (SPs) and plasmonic electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) behavior, and the enhancement of Faraday rotation is mostly governed by the plasmonic electromagnetically induced absorption (EIA) behavior and the conversion of the transverse magnetic (TM) mode and transverse electric (TE) mode in the magnetic dielectric layer.

  • We have considered the influence of electron irradiation on the optical and electrical properties of $SnO_2$ thin films deposited with reactive RF magnetron sputtering. After deposition, the films electron irradiated at 300 eV shows a lower sheet resistance of $277{\Omega}/{\square}$ and the optical transmittance in a visible wave length region also influenced with the electron irradiation energy. The film that electron irradiated at 400 eV shows a higher optical transmittance of 82.6% in this study. By comparison of figure of merit, it is concluded that the post-deposition electron irradiation at 300 eV is the optimum condition for the enhancement of opto-electrcal performance of $SnO_2$ thin film in this study.
