The purposes of this study were to investigate the pathway which stroke patients take in seeking medical care and to identify factors which influence that pathway. This study was conducted by a survey. The subjects were 130 adults, who were diagnosed with a stroke between January and April of 2000. Data was collected by means of a interview, questionnaires, and an Activity Index. The result of this study are summarized as follows: 1. The mean age of subject was 61.58 years. Forty-nine percent were men and fifty percent were women. The majority of the subjects were married. For educational level, thirty-three percent finished elementary school, and twenty-three percent, high school. Most of the subjects reported 'middle' economic status. Ninety-two percent lived with their spouse and children. The diagnosis for seventy-two percent was ischemic stroke and for twenty-two percent, hemorrhagic stroke. 2 The most frequent early sign of stroke was hemiplegia(43.3%), loss of consciousness (36.7%), dysarthria(33.3%). The type of hospital first used was a herb hospital(40.8%), or a western hospital(59.2%). The factors in their choice were ; distance from the hospital to the place that the stroke occurred(47.5%), desire for a herb hospital(15.8%), and an invitation(12.9%). The ischemic stroke patients preferred herb hospitals, but hemorrhagic stroke patients preferred a western hospitals. 3. The pattern of stroke patients seeking medical care was that forty-three percent of stroke patients pass through step 1, forty-six percent, through step 2, and 8.5% through step 3. The more steps, the higher the use of herb hospitals. 4. The factors influencing the pathway of stroke patients seeking medical care were diagnosis, and level of consciousness. Ischemic stroke patients used herb hospitals, more frequently hemorrhagic stroke patients, who used western hospitals. The alert patient preferred a herb hospital, but stupor patients preferred a western hospital. 5. The Activity Index was not related to the pathway which stroke patients used in seeking medical care.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of PBL (Problem based-learning) on the social psychology of clothing course. Thirty-seven undergraduate university students completed a 15-week capstone course in a clothing and textiles department. Background: Recently the use of sedation by pediatric dentists in Korea is increased. This study describes training programs about sedation practices in Korean pediatric dentistry residency program. Methods: A questionnaire was filled in by participants of Korean Academy of Pediatric Dentistry on 17th-18th August, 2008. Also the data about sedation practices of the training institution is collected by phone call. Results: Seventy two percent of respondents used sedation. Most of them used sedation with agents under 25% of their patients. Distribution of ages in patients sedated with agents was 3 years, 4-5 years, under 2 years, 6-10 years, and more than 10 years. Determinative factors of using sedation were behavior management, number of visiting, amount of treatment and general condition, and oral route was the most favorable route. Sixty six percent of them have failed on sedation, and thity percent of them have rarely failed on sedation. Only fifty percent of dentists using sedation completed the cardiopulmonary resuscitation course. Conclusions: For safety, dentists using sedation need to be educated about emergency equipment and management. Especially medication dose, use frequency and the detail related to treatment procedure should be discussed carefully. Also putting a patient under general anesthesia and taking emergency measures should be discussed with Korean Dental Society of Anesthesiology.

Fifty-six indigenous and twenty nine exotic mulberry varieties were screened against powdery mildew, Myrothecium leaf spot, Pseudocercospora leaf spot, sooty mold and bacterial leaf spot for a period of three years under field condition. The percent disease index (PDI) was recorded during peak season of the foliar diseases. Out of eighty-five varieties studied, ten varieties were highly resistant and eight were resistant to powdery mildew; six varieties were immune and seventy-eight varieties were highly resistant to Myrothecium leaf spot; sixty varieties were highly resistant and 21 were resistant to Pseudocercospora leaf spot; forty four varieties were highly resistant to sooty mold and two varieties were immune and fifty-eight were highly resistant to bacterial leaf spot. Lowest cumulatative disease index was observed in M. multicaulis (7.28) followed by Thailand lobed (7.85) and Italian mulberry (8.06).
It is not known that when and by whom 'The Lee's UmsikBup' was written. This cookbook is written purely in Korean and has not been published yet. There is another book named 'UmsikBup' in the cookbooks of the Chosun Dynasty and there are many books with similar names. So this book is tentatively named 'The Lee's UmsikBup'. This book comprises fifty three items, among which there are fifteen items of rice alcoholics, three items of Gook-Su (noodles), sixteen items of side dishes, seventeen items of Tuck (rice cakes) and Guaja(kookies), and two items of fruit punch and tea. Three items were illegible because the lines were erased or the letters were not clear. The cereals needed for making rice alcoholics were sixty four percent regular rice and thirty six percent sticky rice. As for the processes, the process using Jee-ae-bop took up fifty five percent. As for side dishes, pheasants, which are seldom used for food these days, were then popular for food. And the entrails of domestic animals were much used for food. Seeing that red pepper paste mixed with vinegar was used for steamed breams (Jim) and that red pepper was used for Yeolgooja Tang, we can estimate that this book was written after red pepper was introduced. Inferring that Chohong Chang (red pepper paste mixed with vinegar and honey) is found Jinchan Ye Que, we can estimate this book was written in the late 1800's. The cereals used for making rice cakes were ninety two percent sticky rice and eight percent regular rice. Sticky rice was much more used and pepper was used for making Tuck (rice cakes) as Hun Chal Byung, So Ham Byung and Dootum Tuck. The analysis of the terms used in this book revealed that 117 items were used for cooking processes. And it also showed us that there were six kinds of cutting and thirteen kinds of heating procedure. The shapes and sizes of foods were revealed on the basis of real things. The measuring units are hard to revive since the measurements were taken by the container then in use. Thirty four kinds of containers and cookers, twenty more of which are now in use, were used for preparing foods. The use of ‘twigs stretched for the east’ had no scientific base but said something of Korean folkways at that time.

This study is to investigate sleep patterns of rheumatoid arthritis patients through a survey research. The subjects for this study were 97 patients registered in Hanyang University Hospital Rheumatoid Arthritis Center, and the period of data collection was from July 15, 1998 to August 30, 1998. The research instruments used in this study were the measures of sleep, pain, and fatigue, and SPSSWIN 8.0 Program was used for data analysis. The research results are as follows ; The patients went to bed between 11 and 12 p.m., but many of them found difficulty in falling asleep within 5 minutes. They woke up quite early at around 4 to 6 o'clock in the morning and remained in bed about 1 hour. Only 39 percent of the subjects reported satisfaction with their sleep. Fifty six percent of the subjects took a nap, generally did in the afternoon and 22.7 percent of them napped for half an hour. They suffered sleep disturbance, but their sleep environments were calm and comfortable, and they turn off the light when they went to sleep. As for the quality of sleep, over 50 percent of the subjects reported not being able to sleep deeply, 30 percent of the subjects woke up frequently during sleep, 60 percent experienced frequent arousal after sleep onset. Over 90 subjects slept for 6 to 8 hours. This shows that even though they had rheumatoid arthritis, the patients remained in bed for a sufficient period of time. They also reported waking up or turning frequently during sleep. The sense of fatigue from sleep disturbance scored a relatively high 35.84 points on average against the possible score of 64 points. Behavior for sleep promotion was very active. Sleep disturbance occurred in proportion to the sense of fatigue and pain, and was negatively correlated with quality of sleep. The pain had positive correlations with the illness duration, sleep disturbance and had a negative correlation with the quality of sleep.
Purpose: This study examined the health status among elderly in community. Method: This is a survey using cross-sectional design. The subjects were 531 elders who were 65 and over in Pusan, Korea. Data were collected by 17 trained interviewers from April 10 to August 26, 2000. Functional status for physical health status, depression, loneliness, self-esteem for psychological health status, and social support for social health status were measured. Result: About forty three percent of the subjects were found as the elderly who need support in physical status. About fifty six percent of the subjects were depressed. The mean score on the Loneliness scale was 40.4, which means relatively higher. For self-esteem, its score was lower than that of elderly who were examined in other studies. The subjects were living in the state of lower social support. The risk factors for vulnerable health status were being female, becoming older, lower income and education, and living alone. Conclusion: This finding indicates that the elderly subjects in Korean community were in poor health status in physical, psychological and social aspects.
Cervical epidural steroid injection, although not as familiar to many anesthesiologists, can be useful in the management of patients with acute and chronic neck, shoulder and arm pain. My clinic personally contacted and interviewed thirty patients with cervical radiculopathy who received cervical epidural steroid injection. Twenty seven percent of the patients had a excellent response(greater than 75% improvement) and fifty percent of the patients had a good response (greater than 50% improvement) to an injection of steroid into the cervical epidural space. We have concluded that cervical epidural steroid injection was very effective in the management of cervical radiculopathy and represented a possible alternative to surgery. Many anesthesiologists should add to their armamentarium the use of such techniques in the management of cervical radiculopathy.
Stem cuttings of three Rubus species native to Korea were treated by two commercial root stimulation formula for propagation. Differences among the species was obvious, toot was induced relatively easily on R. hongnoensis. Fifty percent of stem rooted without any treatment on this species and two stimulators was effective to increase the root induction. On the other hand, two other species, R. schizostylus and R. ribisoideus, had very low percent of rooting. Treatment using root stimulators was effective but still lower than that of R. hongnoensis. Root induction was not influence by the medium that resulted no differences between two media.
This study was carried out to investigate the domestic solid wastes which produce through the daily life.
