  • Basically, the mis-convergence, which is inevitable in CRT Projection TV. is the degree of deviation of red and blue from green beam. The cause of mis-convergence is the change of magnetic field and electrical characteristic in deflection circuits and convergence amplification circuit. A new and easily implementable mis-convergence compensation algorithm is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm does not needs any compensation devices. It uses only TV OSD and a remote controller and anyone who wants to compensate can easily correct the mismatch. Through real compensation experiments, it is found that the proposed algorithm is useful and effective one.

  • A new motion compensation method for ISAR is presented in this paper. It employs amplitude limiting and integration of consecutive range profiles to improve the range and phase alignment accuracy and to alter the propagation properties of compensation errors. These allow the image quality to be significantly improved. It is shown from the imaging results that the new motion compensation algorithm can get images of targets in field situations with much better quality than the traditional cross-correlation algorithm.

  • There are many kinds of optical systems to widen a field of view. Fisheye lenses with view angles of 180 degrees and omni-directional systems with the view angles of 360 degrees are recognized as proper systems to widen a field of view. In this study, we proposed a new optical system to overcome drawbacks of conventional omni-directional systems such as a limited field of view in the central area and difficulties in manufacturing. Thus we can eliminate the undesirable reflection components of the omni-directional system and solve the primary drawback of the conventional system. Finally, tolerance analysis using Zernike polynomial coefficients was performed to confirm the productivity of the new optical system. Furthermore, we established a method of optical axis alignment and compensation schemes for the proposed optical system as a result of tolerance analysis. In a sensitivity calculation, we investigated performance degradation due to manufacturing error using Code V(R) macro function. Consequently, we suggested compensation schemes using a lens group decentering. This paper gives a good guidance for the optical design and tolerance analysis including the compensation method in the extremely wide angle system.

  • A 8 MA/m-class pulsed field magnetometer has been constructed by composing a pulsed field magnet, a pickup coil, analog integrators, a digital storage oscilloscope and a personal computer. For precision measurements, a 3-axis compensation principle has been applied for the fabrication of pickup coil, and the compensation level of the order of $10^{-6}$ and the sensitivity of $5{\cdot}10^{-7}\;Am^2$ for magnetic moment have been obtained. The high sensitivity of the magnetometer is good enough for measurements of magnetic properties of rare earth magnets in small size or thin films shorter than $3\;mm{\phi}$ in diameter.

  • We have performed computer simulation and experiment to obtain electro-optic characteristics of reflective hybrid aligned nematic (R-HAN) cell driven by fringe field, in which the cell consists of polarizer, optical compensation film, LC layer and reflector. Conventional R-HAN cell driven by fringe field using only the LC layer shows high wavelength dispersion at dark-state and thus viewing angle characteristic is strongly wavelength-dependent. In order to improve this demerit, we added one optical compensation film to conventional R-HAN cell. The display with optimized cell parameters shows low wavelength dispersion at dark-state and exhibits a wide viewing angle without the occurrence of grey scale inversion over a wide range of viewing angles and the contrast ratio greater than 5 over exists about 120$^{\circ}$ in vortical direction and 160$^{\circ}$in horizontal direction. Experimental results show good agreements with theoretical results and fast response time.

  • In this paper, we propose a robust deinterlacing algorithm which combines edge dependent interpolation (EDI) and global motion compensation (GMC). Generally, EDI algorithm shows a visually better performance than any other deinterlacing algorithm using one field. However, due to the restriction of information in one field, a high duality progressive image from Interlaced sources cannot be acquired by intrafield methods. On the contrary, since algorithms based on motion compensation make use of not only spatial information but also temporal information, they yield better results than those of using one field. However, performance of algorithms based on motion compensation depends on the performance of motion estimation. Hence, the proposed algorithm makes use of mixing process of EDI and GMC. In order to obtain the best result, an adaptive thresholding algorithm for detecting the failure of GMC is proposed. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional approaches with respect to both objective and subjective criteria.

  • This paper presents a new method for reducing the blocking artifacts there by increasing the prediction gains of the block-based motion compensation keeping the amount of the motion information to be transmitted intact. The new method improves the motion compensation along the edges of moving objects by segmenting the motion field at the pixel resolution based on the model that the motion compensated image is the maximum a poseriori estimate of the current frame.

  • This paper deals with parameter tuning of the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for 612 MVA thermal power plants in the KEPCO system and its validation in a field test. In this paper, the selection of parameters, such as lead-lag time constants for phase compensation and system gain, is optimized using linear and eigenvalue analyses. This is then verified through the time-domain transient stability analysis. In the next step, the performance of PSS is finally verified by the generator's on-line field test. After the field test, measured and simulated data are also compared to prove the effectiveness of the models used in the simulations.

  • Tall Buildings have been popular in recent years. Tall buildings require special consideration to design and construction due to their structural features. Column shortening is one of the important technologies to be considered in. The long-term deformations of concrete cause vertical shortening on cores and columns, trigger deformations on cladding, partitions and finishes, and damage their serviceability. This also affects structural stability by inducing unexpected stress to the structural members such as outrigger. The main objective of this paper is to re-evaluate column shortening according to revised field information and to compare the analysis results with the actual field measurement. Mok-Dong Hyperion, a 69-story apartment building which is currently under construction, was chosen for the case study.

  • Lens designers generally refer to flat image fields and attempt to minimize the field curvature. Present-day CMOS image sensors for mobile phone cameras, however, are not flat, but curved. Sometimes it is necessary to generate an intentional field curvature according to the degree and direction of the CMOS image-sensor’s curvature. This paper presents the degree of curvature of a CMOS image sensor measured using an interferometer, and proposes an effective compensation method that minimizes the net field curvature through optimizing the air gap between lens elements, which is demonstrated using simulations and experiments.
