콘칼로리미터를 이용한 섬유강화플라스틱(FRP)의 연소특성 (Combustion Characteristics of Fiber Reinforced Plastic by Cone Calorimeter)

  • 본 연구는 작업장의 건축물이나 구조물의 구성요소로 사용되어지는 섬유강화플라스틱의 연소특성을 평가하였다. 섬유강화플라스틱의 연소특성은 ISO 5660에 따라 콘칼로리미터를 사용하여 수행하였다. 섬유 강화플라스틱의 착화시간과 열방출율은 복사열과 난연제의 함량에 따라 달랐다. 섬유강화플라스틱의 열방출율은 복사열의 증가에 따라 증가하였다. 섬유강화플라스틱의 착화시간과 최대 열방출율을 이용하여 플래쉬오버(Flashover)의 가능성을 Petrella가 제시한 분류방법에 따라 검토하였다.

Polyvinyl-alcohol fiber-reinforced concrete with coarse aggregate in beam elements

  • The use of fibers has been commonly considered in engineered cementitious composites, but their behavior with coarse aggregate in concrete has not been studied significantly, which is needed to meet structural performance objectives for design, such as ductility. This research analyzes the behavior of fiber-reinforced concrete with coarse aggregate with 0.62%, 1.23%, and 2% PVA (Polyvinyl-alcohol) content, varying the maximum aggregate size. Tensile (direct and indirect) and compressive concrete tests were performed. The PVA fiber addition in coarse aggregate concrete increased the ductility in compression, especially for the fiber with a larger aspect ratio, with a minor impact on strength. In addition, the tensile tests showed that the PVA fiber increased the tensile strength of concrete with coarse aggregate and, more significantly, improved the ductility. A selected mixture was used to build short and slender reinforced concrete beams to assess the behavior of structural members. PVA fiber addition in short beams changed the failure mode from shear to flexure, increasing the deflection capacity. On the other hand, the slender beam tests revealed negligible impact with the use of PVA.

Machine learning model for predicting ultimate capacity of FRP-reinforced normal strength concrete structural elements

  • Limited studies are available on the mathematical estimates of the compressive strength (CS) of glass fiber-embedded polymer (glass-FRP) compressive elements. The present study has endeavored to estimate the CS of glass-FRP normal strength concrete (NSTC) compression elements (glass-FRP-NSTC) employing two various methodologies; mathematical modeling and artificial neural networks (ANNs). The dataset of 288 glass-FRP-NSTC compression elements was constructed from the various testing investigations available in the literature. Diverse equations for CS of glass-FRP-NSTC compression elements suggested in the previous research studies were evaluated employing the constructed dataset to examine their correctness. A new mathematical equation for the CS of glass-FRP-NSTC compression elements was put forwarded employing the procedures of curve-fitting and general regression in MATLAB. The newly suggested ANN equation was calibrated for various hidden layers and neurons to secure the optimized estimates. The suggested equations reported a good correlation among themselves and presented precise estimates compared with the estimates of the equations available in the literature with R2= 0.769, and R2 =0.9702 for the mathematical and ANN equations, respectively. The statistical comparison of diverse factors for the estimates of the projected equations also authenticated their high correctness for apprehending the CS of glass-FRP-NSTC compression elements. A broad parametric examination employing the projected ANN equation was also performed to examine the effect of diverse factors of the glass-FRP-NSTC compression elements.

능가사 출토 종이와 섬유의 해부학적 성질 및 미량원소 분석 (Anatomical Characteristics and Trace Elements of Historical Papers and Cloths from Neunggasa Temple in Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 전남 고흥 능가사 대웅전과 천왕문에서 발굴된 종이와 섬유의 해부학적 특성과 미량 화학성분을 광학현미경, 화상해석, 주사전자현미경(SEM-EDS)으로 분석하는 것이다. 모든 종이는 닥나무로 식별되었다. 인피섬유에서 분리된 투명막의 존재가 특징적이었다. 대웅전 벽에 붙여 있는 종이가 가장 손상이 심하였으며 천왕문에서 발굴된 책의 종이 세포는 비교적 보존 상태가 양호하였다. 천왕문의 동방지국상 아래에서 발굴된 섬유는 매우 좁은 세포폭을 갖는 실크이었다. SEM-EDS 분석에서 높은 실리카 함량이 발견되었다. 종이 내에서 발견된 칼슘, 철, 염소, 그 밖의 미량원소 분석 결과를 연대, 생산지 및 보존처리와 관련하여 고찰하였다.

  • For finite analysis of concrete columns strengthened with glass fiber sheets, an effective concrete model which considers the confining effects by lateral reinforcement and glass fiber sheets is necessary. In this paper, the so-called elasto-plasticity and continuum fracture model (EPF model) is modified to consider high confining effects of strengthened reinforced concrete columns by introducing a simple correction factor ($\alpha$) which relates maximum lateral confining stress of the column to the evolution of deviatoric plasticity. Then, a finite element analysis is carried out for the strengthened reinforced concrete columns using the modified EPF model and equally spaced truss elements. It is shown that the, analysis predicts well the failure behavior of reinforced concrete columns strengthened with glass fiber sheets.

  • Since optical delay line signal processing which utilizes optical fiber as delay line elements can provide high speed and broadband signal processing, the optical delay line signal processing has numerous applications. Recently, many research papers which optical delay line signal processing techniques are being applied to OCDMA are published. The author has published paper on the design method for optical fiber filters of lattice structure. However, the previous design method does not realize the transfer function all the time. It can be realized with constraints. In this paper, we propose the design method that can realize the transfer function all the time without any constraints for the optical fiber filter of lattice structure.

  • It is absolutely natural to be interested in durability and safety of the structure under shear behavior. To fulfill this desire, a comparison on the shear behavior between steel fiber reinforced concrete both simple and continuous beams is done to use in the field working. Several operations are conducted : First of all, plan for optimal combination is standardized. Second, resistance for shear has been generalized in that it is decided by combination of individual elements. Third, as the fracture of tensile bar leads to destruction of specimen, shear behavior of whole specimen is decided by stress working on tensile bar. It should be generalized for other specimens also. Forth, evidence of the softness of steel fiber reinforced concrete beam by experiment lead to application in the fields. Finally, numeral values of the steel fiber reinforced concrete are analyzed and the result is compared to those of experiments. With these consequences, this study was done for the application to dynamic structures such as bridges and the repair and rehabilitation.

  • In this paper, the experimental study was carried out in order to compare the mechanical characteristics of multi-layer elastomeric isolation hearings where the reinforceing elements steel plates case and fiber-reinforcement case. Fiber-reinforced isolater which has the same dimension as the steel reinforced isolator had shown better efficiency in effective damping than NRB. The compression test has shown the corresponding results with the theoretical vertical stiffness in the case of flexible reinforcement. The fiber-reinforced isolator will be significantly lighter and could lead to a much less labor intensive manufacturing process.

  • A new hollow fiber filled with the lower refractive index liquid as core constructs a liquid core optical fiber(LCOF). The LCOF have been used as colorimetric cell to determine elements Cr and Cu in the presence of 70%- 50% ethanol or 50% dioxane aqueous solution, based on colored complex of Chromium(VI) with Diphenycarbazid(DPC) and copper with Chromaurd S(CAS) respectively. The sensitivity (1/ng/ml) of calibration curve of Cr and Cu are 0.052, 0.017 over the range 0 - 25, 0 - 24(ng/ml) respectively. The Cr in the animal gum and Nation Standard of China are determined with recoveries of 94 - 102%.
