Bendable ac-PDP using Fence-Structured Electrodes on Polyethylene Terephthalate Substrate

  • A possibility of manufacturing bendable ac-PDP using aluminum electrode with anodic aluminum oxide dielectric material system on PET film substrate was explored. For this structure, PET film with fence-structured aluminum electrodes was used for front plate and PET film with barrier ribs of UV curable resin for the rear plate. The results demonstrate that it is feasible to manufacture the bendable ac-PDPs using those material system and are expected to expand the applications of plasma display panels.

Characteristics and Energy Absorbing Capacity for Rockfall Protection Fence from In-Situ Rockfall Tests (현장 낙석실험을 통한 낙석방지울타리의 특성 및 성능 평가)

  • Rockfall protection fences are used for diminishing rockfall damage in roads side slopes. In order to install the fences in effective way, the conditions of rock slopes and total predicted impact energy of fa11ing rock should be considered. However, the fences have been constructed without any consideration for lithology, height and slope angle of rock slope in Korea. In addition, the information about the performance of the protection fences, which should be evaluated by in-situ test or laboratory test in order to check out the practical use in the field, is not available. Therefore, in design manual for the rockfall protection fence, the specific details for the installation of this type of fence are not provided yet. The full sized rockfall in situ test was carried out for the calculation of falling energy of rock and the evaluation of the maximum energy absorbing capacity of fence. For this test, the rock slopes whose heights are about 20 m and dip angle of 65 degree, have been chosen. This is because those geometries are mean height and slope angle of most road cut slopes along Korean national highway. Based on the preliminary simulation procedure, four different sizes of concrete ball (0.7, 1.3, 2.3 and 4.3 ton) were prepared and flour different types of protection fence were constructed. The results of this test provide information about the maximum energy absorbing capacity of the fence, kinetic energy of rockfall and restitution coefficient, and these results can be utilized in the establishment of rockfall fence design and construction manual.

  • In this study, a field test was conducted to present a test method for performance evaluation of a rock fall prevention fence, centering on the vertical drop test among the existing test methods of the rock fall prevention fence. A test to determine the support capacity of a rockfall prevention fence in Korea is usually conducted using a combination of wire mesh, poles, and wire rope, and the location of the impact of falling rocks has been conducted centered on the center of the wire mesh. However, in the case of domestic papers and test data, there is no data on direct hit of post. Therefore, the amount of displacement and weak section were analyzed when the impact on 100kJ class rock energy was hit on the post, centering on the Rockfall Protection fence (highway type No. 2).

  • A study on the traditional houses of North Korea(I) have been published in 1996. This paper is written to supplement the preceding paper. This paper aims at collecting new data of traditional house in North Korea. But still being prohibited for the researchers of South Korea to approach to the field, I had to depend on the memories and experiences of the immigrants from North Korea who are now living in Kangwon and Incheon Province. Through the questionnaire and drawings, they described vivid memory of their old houses. I was able to add new data of 70 cases, which are significant and valuable as much as those of the real field are. Those data, including the exisiting data, are enough for me to analize statstically the regional charateristics, the differnces among economical classes, and the periodical change. It opens the way for verfying the existing theory. Regional charateristics of house in North Korea can be described as followings: a. Hamkyong-do ; Concentrating spaces into one building, Double-fold type plan, Including 'cheongju-kan' space, Weak fences b. Pyongan-do ; Concentrating spaces into two buildings, 二 shape buildings , Single-fold type plan, Strong fence c. Oil Fence Durability Enhancement for Marine Environmental Protection : Improvement of Inspection Process (해양환경 보호를 위한 오일펜스의 내구성 향상 : 검정제도 개선 방향)

  • Oil fences effectively prevent the spread of oil spilled in the sea, thereby reducing the damage to the marine environment. However, the fence is damaged by oil and structures at the accident site and is discarded. When incinerated disposal method for discarded fences, fine dust, and harmful materials are generated. Moreover, as a part of the damaged fence is dumped into the sea, it may cause secondary environmental pollution, such as microplastics. Therefore, in this study, durability was measured using the most common solid foam type oil fences. As a result, the reduction rate of after five days of contact was 13 % in seawater and 3 % in oil, affected by temperature changes. Thus, the durability of the fence should be improved because it is exposed to seawater and oil and affected by wind, light, and waves depending on the weather conditions. Therefore, we suggest a method to improve the oil fence inspection to strengthen the durability of the fence's fabric part.

Effects of Vine Induction Method on the Growth and Fruit Yield in Korean Schisandra (오미자 덩굴 유인방법이 생육 및 과실 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • Background: This study was aimed to determine the optimal vine induction method for growing of Korean schisandra (Schisandra chinensis), by comparing plant growth and fruit yields between plants grown with either fence-type (U-type) or A-type induction. Methods and Results: Plants were transplanted on August 17, 2014, and the plant height, stem node number and weight were measured every two weeks, six times from June 17, 2016. The plant height, stem node number, and leaf length and width were higher with the A-type than with the U-type induction, by approximately 37.0%, 49.1%, 27.6%, and 12.7%, respectively. Although there was no significant difference between the photosynthesis rates of plants grown with the two vine induction method, the leaf area and leaf number per plant were higher in the plants grown with the A-type than the U-type, by approximately 23.7% and 46.0%, respectively. The number of green-color pixels, in a defined area of digital camera images of creeper leaves from the inducted vines, was significantly higher in the plants grown with the A-type than the U-type. The number of fruit clusters per plant was approximately 26 and 36, under the U-type and A-type, respectively. A two fold higher total fruit weight per plant was observed in the plants grown under the A-type (250 g/plant) than the U-type (120 g/plant). Conclusions: The A-type vine induction method is optimal for cultivation of Korean schisandra.

  • Because the university campuses in Seoul have changed to the urban campus type that the boundary of the campus is close to the urban tissue, the relationship between local societies and universities has got more important than before. Recently, through the support of Seoul metropolitan government, some projects for activating campus towns in Seoul have been proceeded. There are two distinctive projects. One is the campus fence afforestation project, and another is the district unit plan for the physical environment improvement of commercial streets around the campus in Seoul. The goal of this study is to analyze the government-university-community partnership for implementation of these two projects related to the model projects and the Hanyang university campus town as the exemplary government-university-community partnership, and to make practical application of other campus town projects to need the harmonious partnership between university neighborhoods and universities.

Implementation of Image-based Virtual Fence for Surveillance Area Setup (감시영역 설정을 위한 영상 기반 가상펜스 구현)

  • The existing CCTV has limitation such as problem on usage of the off-line type of recorded image for specific investigation, and requirement on interactive operator intervention for real-time surveillance. Therefore, it is required to develop the intelligent CCTV equipped with various functionalities in order to overcome drawbacks mentioned above. In this paper, implementation methods of image-based virtual fence were proposed by using the spline curves with supplied control for setup of surveillance area. In addition, pre-alarm region within the predefined distance was established with tangent and normal lines extracted from control points. The image-based virtual fence can be used for remote detection of intrusion and provision of real-time intrusion alarm, and can be expected to use in safety-related application areas including security and crime prevention.

Reliability Improvement of the Electronic Security Fence Using Friction Electricity Sensor by Analyzing Frequency Characteristic of Environmental Noise Signal (환경잡음신호의 주파수특성 분석에 의한 전자보안펜스의 신뢰성 향상)

  • A passive type of fence security system was developed, which was based on electric charge detection technique. The implemented fence security system was installed at outskirts of greenhouse laboratory in the University of Seoul. The purpose of this research is to minimize false alarms by analyzing environmental noise. The existing system determines the intrusion alarm by analyzing the power of amplified signal, but the alarm was seriously affected by natural strong wind and heavy rainfall. The SAU(Signal Analysis Unit) sends input signals to remote server which displays intrusion alarm and stores all the information in database. The environmental noise such as temperature, humidity and wind speed was separately gathered to analyze a correlation with input signal. The input signal was analyzed for frequency characteristic using FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) and the algorithm that differentiate between intrusion alarm and environmental noise signal is improved. The proposed algorithm is applied for the site for one month as the same as the existing algorithm and the false alarm data was gathered and analyzed. The false alarm number was decreased by 98% after new algorithm was applied to the fence. The proposed algorithm improved the reliability at the field regarding environmental noise signal.

  • In establishing artificial fences in a certain locality, type of its area or wind blown against them from the front side is primarily considered. Researchers on fences also concentrate on upstream, wand blown against them from the front side In 90$^{\circ}$ angle. In this research, simulations were carried out on the direction of wind changed by each season, and regardless of seasonal wind, on the fences effect of wind direction on fences, throu호 an atmospheric boondary layer wind tunnel. When I compared the velocity distribution of upstream against the fences in 90$^{\circ}$ angle with that of 75$^{\circ}$, 60$^{\circ}$, and 45$^{\circ}$ respectively, the velocity distribution at downstream of the latter cases generally surpassed that of the former one.
