The results obtained were as follows : 1. The number of adolescent patients was significantly increased in 2008 than in 2000, especially in male. 2. Bruxing, clenching, holding habits and bad sleep hygiene were highly increased more in 2008 than in 2000. 3. Osteoarthritis was significantly increased in 2008 than in 2000 and anterior disc dislocation without reduction was slightly increased. 4. The ratio of male to female adolescent patients with osteoarthritis was remarkably increased. Among the patients who had holding, bruxing, clenching habits, significantly increased osteoarthritis found to be common. This could imply holding, bruxing, clenching habits are prominently associated with increasing risk of developing osteoarthritis.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate middle school students' perceptions of dietary education in Technology-Home Economics classes. Out of the 444 survey respondents of 3rd grade middle school students in Gyeonggi area, 78.1% of them appeared to have obtained knowledge and information on diet and nutrition primarily from the dietary education delivered in Technology-Home Economics classes. Specifically, 62.6% stated "The current dietary education was useful." and 67.3% said "School dietary education was necessary." However, 88.7% was not even aware of the current Dietary Education Support Act, which was enacted in 2009. On the basis of the 28 subject categories in dietary education, in general, the more interested students were in a specific subject, the more actively they applied their knowledge of that subjects in real situations. In all categories, female students had a greater degree of interest and were more likely to apply that know lodge than male students. Among the 28 subjects, they had greatest interest in 'Dining Manners and Etiquette' and 'Nutrition and Meals for Adolescents' while they expressed relatively little interest in the subject of 'Cooking and Culinary Education'. Their perception of the necessity of dietary education was most highly influenced by their interest in the subject 'Nutrition and Meals for Adolescents', which was followed by gender difference and 'Dining Manners and Etiquette' as the most influential subjects.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the stress profile that adolescent perceives by using Latent Profile Analysis (LPA), and to examine the effect of characteristics variable per groups that appeared in profile. By using the cross-section data of 'A survey on the human right of Korean children and adolescent in 2013' issued by National Youth Policy Institute, the LPA concerning the stress type was conducted and surveyed 9,521 adolescents from fourth grade in elementary school to seniors in high school nationwide. The result of this study shows that two class types were selected according to the goodness-of-fit index and latent class classification rate. Type 1 is named low-risk group as they show low level, whereas type 2 is named relative risk group as they show high level. In order to predict the characteristics of adolescent stress, the study conducted Binary Logistic Regression analysis on the basis of low-risk group. There is higher probability to belong to relative risk group, the more they are female students than male students, the less their subjective health condition and happiness, the more runaway experience, the less school grades and the less economic affluence in their household. The implication of this research, its limitation and direction of follow-up research were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between suicidal ideation and psycho-social factors such as depression, stress, self-esteem, and support from family, friends, and teachers. Data from a sample of 224 male and female high school sophomore students. The results were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, person's correlation, and multiple regression. The findings of this research are as follows. Firstly, there was no statistically significant gender difference in suicidal ideation. However females reported greater suicidal ideation than males. Secondly, there were a statistically significant gender differences in depression. stress, self-esteem, and support from teachers. Thirdly, the variables in the cause model accounted for 42.3% for males, and 36.4% for females, of the variance in suicidal ideation. Fourthly, there were gender differences in the predictive power of variables within the cause model for suicidal ideation. Depression, self-esteem. and stress were found to be significant predictors of suicidal ideation in males. On the other hand, depression and lack of family support were shown as significant predictors of suicidal ideation in females. These findings suggest that the following approaches should be taken in order to decrease suicidal ideation among adolescents. With males self-esteem should be strengthened, depression should be reduced, and stress should be managed. With females family problems need attention, and depression need to be reduced.

In the horizontal relationship, the prevalence of normal overjet and crossbite was 86.9% and 5.6% respectively whereas larger and extremely larger overjet was found in 6.6% and 0.8%. In the vertical relationship of anterior teeth, normal, deep overbite and openbite was shown in 94.1%, 4.7%, and 1.2%. For the midline discrepancy, the distribution of groups with 0~1 mm, 2~4 mm and over 5 mm was 98.2%, 1.4%, and 0.4%. Crowding only in the maxilla was found in 9.6%, while that only in the mandible and in both arches was 14.1% and 24.1% respectively. Spacing only in the maxilla was seen in 3.0%, while that only in the mandible and in both arches was 2.4% and 1.7% respectively. Significant difference in self-esteem was revealed in female and malocclusion groups of crossbite and openbite(p < 0.05).

  • Objects : This study was carried out to develop the Korean form of Leyton Obsessional Inventory-Child Version(LOI-CV) designed to assess the obsessive compulsive symptoms in children and adolescents. The LOI-CV was modified into a paper-and-pencil form in order to administer it to group. Methods : We applied the Korean form LOI-CV to 127 elementary, middle and high school children, and retest it to 82 children with 3 weeks interval. Together with LOI-CV, Korean form of SCL-90-R which had been proved its reliability and validity, were administered to the all subjects for examining of concurrent validity. And then we examined whether this scale discriminates between obsessive patients, psychiatric controls and normal controls in the level of obsessive symptoms. Results : Test-retest reliability, internal consistency were very satisfactory. Concurrent validity with SCL-90-R was moderate level. And obsessive patients was scored significantly higher than psychiatric and normal controls in the level of obsessive symptoms. In factor analysis, items are clustered to 5 factors. In the global obsessive symptom, obsessive scores of female elimentary school students were higher than that of male students. Conclusions : These results indicate that the Korean form of LOI-CV is reliable and valid self-rating scale to assess the obsessive-compulsive symptoms in Korean children and adolescents. Author suggests that future research is needed for Korean version standardization study in normal and clinic-refered population.
