  • I examine the discussions of studies related to feminist mathematics education and the implications of mathematics education in South Korea. In particular, I attempt to answer the following questions through literature reviews on feminist mathematics: What is the epistemological background of feminist mathematics education? How is feminist mathematics education defined and implemented? What does feminist mathematics education suggest in South Korea's mathematics curriculum? From the analysis of the literatures, I found that feminist mathematics education reflects not just the rights of female's rights but also a paradigm shift in epistemology of mathematics and philosophy of mathematics education. In this regard, feminist mathematics questions the existing mathematics education related to the female students who were marginalized in the composition and delivery of mathematics. Feminist mathematics education points out that in the course of the transfer of mathematical knowledge in schools, female students understand unilateral information procedurally without understanding the concept. Mathematics educators should consider alternative curricula that reflect the views of female students regarding the nature of mathematics. Students should be able to receive equal mathematics education in a school regardless of their gender. In this case, equal mathematics education refers to education methods that are suitable for both male and female students. The existing mathematics content and its teaching methods were designed based on the learning experiences of male students, which made them relatively difficult for female students to understand.

  • Background: Women make up half of the world's population, and comprise 20% of the world's one billion smokers. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of smoking among female medical students in comparison to female non-medical students, and to assess the importance of medical education and knowledge in decreasing the prevalence of smoking among female university students in Saudi Arabia. Method: We used a self-administered questionnaire to collect cross-sectional data from a randomly selected sample of 320 female students attending King Abdul-Aziz University, Jeddah. Medical students comprised 50% of the sample. Results: A total of 310 students (96.9%) completed and returned the questionnaire. The prevalence of smoking was higher in non-medical female students (4.2%) compared to medical female students (0.32%) (P < 0.001). Conclusion: The prevalence of smoking is low among female medical students compared to female non-medical students, presumably because of their awareness, level of education, and knowledge of the risks to health associated with smoking. Our study highlights the need for increased knowledge, health education, and awareness of the risks of smoking to reduce smoking among female university students.

The result of this study were as follows; The subjects' scores of sex knowledge was 19.60 on average devided into the lovest 1 to the highest 25. Reproductive physiology scored highest at 0.82 and the contraceptive method was the lowest at 0.54. The subjects who responded that sexual education is necessary were 423 (91.2%), and they wanted ‘the sexual mentality of men and women’ most, 419 (99.1%). Also, ‘contraceptive method’ of 404 (95.5%), ‘veneral disease.’, ‘sexual behavior’, ‘sexual physiology’, ‘reproductive physiology’, ‘sexual morals’ etc followed. Based on above results of the study, it is more essential to organize the sex education programs centering around ‘contraceptive method’, ‘veneral disease.’, ‘sexual behavior’ etc which are not too difficult but more needed than ‘reproductive physiology’. It is required to develope sex education programs through research between specialists in various fields rather than through specialists in one field. It is considered that sex education programs can lead female students to forming and maintaining a correct sexual identity.
