A neural controller for process control is proposed that combines a conventional multi-loop PID controller with a neural network. The concept of target signal based on feedback error is used for on-line learning of the neural network. This controller is applied to distillation column control to illustrate its effectiveness. The result shows that the proposed neural controller can cope well with disturbance, strong interactions, time delays without any prior knowledge of the process.

A nonlinear feedback linearizing control method for an EMS (Electro-Magnetic Suspension) system is proposed. After linearzing the system using the exact linearizing method, conventional linear system control theory has been applied. Robustness properties of the proposed controller with respect to the load variations is also analysed for a single magnet suspension system. Computer simulation is carried out in order to compare the performance of the proposed controller with that of the existing controller designed by using Taylor series expansion around nominal points.

A design of robust voltage controller for high speed excitation of synchronous machine was carried out by pole assignment techniques. An affine map from characteristic polynomial coefficients to feedback parameters is formulated in order to place the system eigen values in the desired region. The feedback parameters determined from linearized model are tested on nonlinear model subjecting it to small disturbances and system faults to show the effectiveness of the controller designed by the proposed technique. The results obtained indicate that the controller presented improves the dynamic stability and system performances of conventionally controlled synchronous machine significantly.
In this paper. an indirect adaptive controller for manipulator which is composed of two controller structure is considered. One is feedforward controller in which the dynamics equation solved and the other is feedback controller in which the output error compensated. This controller has a good performance, but the computation burden of the feed forward controller keep from real time control. At this point, we proposed the two time adaptive controller where the sampling time of the feedforward controller is quite longer than that of the feedback controller. By the computer simulation, this proposed two time adaptive controller shows good performance in the view of accuracy in spite of decreasing computational burden.

Model updating method is known to the area to correct finite element models by the results of the experimental modal analysis. Most common methods in model updating depend on a parametric model of the structure. In this case, the number of parameters is normally smaller than that of modal data obtained from an experiment. In order to overcome this limitation, many researchers are trying to get modal data as many as possible to date. 1 want to name this method multiple modified-system generation method. These Methods consist of direct system modification method and feedback controller method. The direct system modification Is to add a mass or stiffness on the original structure or perturb the boundary conditions. The feedback controller method is to make the closed food system with sensor and actuator so as to get the closed loop modal data. In this paper, we need to focus on the feedback controller method because of its simplicity. Several methods related the feedback controller methods are virtual passive controller (VPC) sensitivity enhancement controller (SEC) and mode decoupling controller (MDC). Among them, we will apply MDC to the model updating problem. MDC has various advantages compared with other controllers, such as VPC and SEC. To begin with, only the target mode can be changed without changing modal property of non-target modes. In addition, it is possible to fix any modes if the number of sensors is equal to that of the system modes. Finally, the required control power to achieve desired change of target mode is always lower than those of other methods such as VPC. However, MDC can make the closed loop system unstable when using incomplete modal data. So we need to take action to avoid undesirable instability from incomplete modal data. In this paper, we address the method to design the unique and robust MDD obtained from incomplete modal data. The associated simulation will be Incorporated to demonstrate the usefulness of this method.

In this paper the feedback linearization of the valve-controlled nonlinear hydraulic velocity control system and the implementation of the digital state feedback controller is studied. The $C^{\infty}$ nonlinear transfomation to the electro-hydraulic velocity control system, which transforms nonlinear system to linear equivalent one, is obtained. It is shown that this transformation is global one. The digital controller to this linearized model is obtained by using the one-step ahead state estimator and implemented to real plant. The proposed implementation method is easier than the other proposed methods and it is possible to control in real time. The experiment and simulation study show that the implementation of the digital state feedback controller based on the feedback linearized model is successful..

As computer capability and test skill become more and more advanced, finite element method and modal test are being widely applied in engineering design. In order to correlate and reconcile the inevitable discrepancies between the analytical and experimental models, many techniques have been developed. Among these methods, multiple-system methods are known as the effective tools in that they can supply the rich modal data available which are experimentally obtained. These abundant modal data can help structural system parameters estimated well. Multiple-system methods can be classified into the structural modification methods and feedback controller methods. The structural modification methods need the physical attachment of structures and their concept may limit the application of them. To overcome this drawback, the feedback controller methods are addressed which enable us to get more modal data without the structural change. Mode decoupling controller(MDC), one of them, is to use acceleration out)ut feedback to perturb an open-loop system. The output feedback controller generally cannot guarantee the stability of a closed-loop system. However, MDC can solve this problem under the certain constraints. So far, MDC utilizes accelerations as the sensor signals. In this research, strain sensors are going to be picked up to apply to the MDC. Strain output is recently used for structural system identification due to the drastically improved and miniaturized strain sensor. In this paper, we show that the MDC using strain output has differences compared with acceleration output in estimating the structural system parameters. The associated simulation is performed to demonstrate the above mentioned characteristics.

This paper addresses design procedure and testing results of a closed-loop motion control of the cranes. When the object is stopped at the desired position, swinging occurs, and such swinging deteriorates the safety and efficiency of the operation of the crane. Therefore, in this paper, the cascade anti-swing and trolley position feedback controller are designed. Anti-swing controller rapidly eliminates swinging of object and position feedback controller reduces the trolley position error. The performance of this controller is investigated through the computer simulation and experiment. From the results of a series of computer simulations and experiments it can be concluded that proposed controller effectively reduces swinging of the object and trolley position error, which shows this controller can be used as an effective tool for the precise control of overhead cranes.

This paper proposes a combined feedforward/feedback controller which uses jacobians of neural network. The jacobians are calculated form the neural network that identifies the nonlinear plant, which are used for designing a jacobian controller and for training a neural network controller. Normally, it takes much time to train the neural network controller. Combining the neural and the jacobian controller, it can be a stable controller from the beginning of training phase of neural network, and it can be implemented as a learning-while-functioning controller. Simulated resutls for the proposed controller show its effectiveness and better performances.
We introduce a new stable feedback controller eventually converges to a conventional SDRE(State Dependent Riccati Equation) based optimal (suboptimal) controller. On conventional SDRE, the optimal control input should be obtained by backward integration of the SDRE at each control point. The proposed controller is given by direct forward integration of a proposed SDRE. This fact enables fast computation and easy implementation. On concerning a state dependent system, the proposed controller may be a candidate to the conventional SDRE based optimal controller if the system is slow varying with states. Though the controller is fast and easy to implement it is not able to cope with a fast varying system. We introduce an optimality index, which indicates how far the proposed controller is deviated from the solution of the convectional SDRE. If the index escapes a ...
