  • In this paper, we study a noise-robust feature extraction method of speech signal based on auditory modeling. The auditory model consists of a basilar membrane, a hair cell model and spectrum output stage. Basilar membrane model describes a response characteristic of membrane according to vibration in speech wave, and is represented as a band-pass filter bank. Hair cell model describes a neural transduction according to displacements of the basilar membrane. It responds adaptively to relative values of input and plays an important role for noise-robustness. Spectrum output stage constructs a mean rate spectrum using the average firing rate of each channel. And we extract feature vectors using a mean rate spectrum. Simulation results show that when auditory-based feature extraction is used, the speech recognition performance in noisy environments is improved compared to other feature extraction methods.

  • Depth recovery in robot vision is an essential problem to infer the three dimensional geometry of scenes from a sequence of the two dimensional images. In the past, many studies have been proposed for the depth estimation such as stereopsis, motion parallax and blurring phenomena. Among cues for depth estimation, depth from lens translation is based on shape from motion by using feature points. This approach is derived from the correspondence of feature points detected in images and performs the depth estimation that uses information on the motion of feature points. The approaches using motion vectors suffer from the occlusion or missing part problem, and the image blur is ignored in the feature point detection. This paper presents a novel approach to the defocus technique based depth from lens translation using sequential SVD factorization. Solving such the problems requires modeling of mutual relationship between the light and optics until reaching the image plane. For this mutuality, we first discuss the optical properties of a camera system, because the image blur varies according to camera parameter settings. The camera system accounts for the camera model integrating a thin lens based camera model to explain the light and optical properties and a perspective projection camera model to explain the depth from lens translation. Then, depth from lens translation is proposed to use the feature points detected in edges of the image blur. The feature points contain the depth information derived from an amount of blur of width. The shape and motion can be estimated from the motion of feature points. This method uses the sequential SVD factorization to represent the orthogonal matrices that are singular value decomposition. Some experiments have been performed with a sequence of real and synthetic images comparing the presented method with the depth from lens translation. Experimental results have demonstrated the validity and shown the applicability of the proposed method to the depth estimation.

  • This paper presents a robust method to combine a collection of images with small fields of view to obtain an image with a large field of view. In the previous works, there are two main areas which one is a cross correlation-based method and the other is a feature-based method. The former is based on motion estimation from video sequences. so there are a problem on rotating a camera about optical axis. In the latter method, it is difficult to match correspondence feature points correctly.'re find correct correspondences, we proposed the geometrical feature model and correspondence filters and the Gaussian distribution weight function to blend the images smoothly. The experiments show that our method is robust and effective.

  • The feature subset selection is used as a preprocessing step of a teaming algorithm. If collected data are irrelevant or redundant information, we can improve the performance of learning by removing these data before creating of the learning model. The feature subset selection can also reduce the search space and the storage requirement. This paper proposed a new feature subset selection algorithm that is using the heuristic function based on entropy to evaluate the performance of the abstracted feature subset and feature selection. The ACS algorithm was used as a search method. We could decrease a size of learning model and unnecessary calculating time by reducing the dimension of the feature that was used for learning.

  • This paper presents an automatic approach to detect face and facial feature from face images based on the color information and deformable model. Skin color information has been widely used for face and facial feature diction since it is effective for object recognition and has less computational burden, In this paper, we propose how to compensates varying light condition and utilize the transformed YCbCr color model to detect candidates region of face and facial feature from color images, Moreover, the detected face facial feature areas are subsequently assigned to a initial condition of active contour model to extract optimal boundaries of face and facial feature by resolving initial boundary problem when the active contour is used, The experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed method, The face and facial feature information will be used for face recognition and facial feature descriptor.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) models require different levels of detail (LODs) depending on their purpose. Therefore, it is beneficial to automatically simplify 3D CAD assembly models to meet the desired LOD. Feature-based 3D CAD assembly models typically have the lowest and highest feasible limits of LOD during simplification. In order to help users obtain a feasible simplification result, we propose a method to simplify feature-based 3D CAD assembly models by determining the lowest and highest limits of LOD. The proposed method is verified through experiments using a simplification prototype implemented as a plug-in type module on Siemens NX.

  • In this paper we propose an effective feature compensation scheme based on the speech model in order to achieve robust speech recognition. The proposed feature compensation method is based on parallel combined mixture model (PCMM). The previous PCMM works require a highly sophisticated procedure for estimation of the combined mixture model in order to reflect the time-varying noisy conditions at every utterance. The proposed schemes can cope with the time-varying background noise by employing the interpolation method of the multiple mixture models. We apply the‘data-driven’method to PCMM tot move reliable model combination and introduce a frame-synched version for estimation of environments posteriori. In order to reduce the computational complexity due to multiple models, we propose a technique for mixture sharing. The statistically similar Gaussian components are selected and the smoothed versions are generated for sharing. The performance is examined over Aurora 2.0 and speech corpus recorded while car-driving. The experimental results indicate that the proposed schemes are effective in realizing robust speech recognition and reducing the computational complexities under both simulated environments and real-life conditions.

  • The U-Net architecture-based segmentation models attained remarkable performance in numerous medical image segmentation missions like skin lesion segmentation. Nevertheless, the resolution gradually decreases and the loss of spatial information increases with deeper network. The fusion of adjacent layers is not enough to make up for the lost spatial information, thus resulting in errors of segmentation boundary so as to decline the accuracy of segmentation. To tackle the issue, we propose a new deep learning-based segmentation model. In the decoding stage, the feature channels of each decoding unit are concatenated with all the feature channels of the upper coding unit. Which is done in order to ensure the segmentation effect by integrating spatial and semantic information, and promotes the robustness and generalization of our model by combining the atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) module and channel attention module (CAM). Extensive experiments on ISIC2016 and ISIC2017 common datasets proved that our model implements well and outperforms compared segmentation models for skin lesion segmentation.

  • This study consists of three steps of data modeling procedures. The first step is to identify possible items for the data model based on literature review and expert interviews. The second step is to design delineate possible sub-themes, feature classes, feature types, attributes, attribute domains, and their relationships. These are presented in various UML class diagrams, and each feature type is clearly defined and modeled. The data model also shows geometry objects and their topological relationships in UML diagrams. Finally, a standardized data model has been provided to avoid possible conflicts in the field of geographic and Facility Area, and thus this study and the data model will eventually assist in alleviating efforts to build standardized geographic information databases for Facility Area.
