  • As the railway transportation is getting faster and its operation speed has increased rapidly, its signal control has been complicated. For real time signal processing it is very important to prohibit any critical error from causing the system to malfunction. Therefore, handling complicated signals effectively while maintaining fault-tolerance capability is highly expected in modern railway transportation industry. In this paper, we suggest an SoC (Sytem-on-Chip) design method to integrate these complicated signal controlling mechanism with fault tolerant capability in a single chip. We propose an SoC solution which contains a high performance 32-bit embedded processor, digital filters and a PWM unit inside a single chip to implement ATO's, ATC's, ATP's and ATS's digital signal-processing units. We achieve an enhanced reliability against the calculation error by adding fault tolerance features to ensure the stability of each module.

  • In this paper we address reliable output feedback control problem for a class of linear systems with actuator/sensor failures. An output feedback control method is proposed which stabilizes the plant and guarantees $H_\inftyt$-norm constraint against all admissible actuator/sensor failures. The controller can be obtainer by solving some LMls that cover all failure cases. Effectiveness of this controller is validated via a numerical example.   • Distributed Control System has been used for large scale and critical system control such as aerospace industries, chemical and power plant and so on. It is very impotant factors for design of the control system to be reliable and fault-tolerant. These control systems have backup or redundant processing modules for minimizing the time of failure and improving reliability. But such methods have changeover duration from faulty module to healthy one. During that interval, feedback control loop raises bumper and performance of the system become worse. TMR(Triple Modular Redundancy) control system is one of the best reliable ones that can overcome such a mortal drawback. This paper analyzes the components of TMR system functionally and proposes practical and cost effective configuration method for turbine control of thermal power plant.

Concurrency Control Method to Provide Transactional Processing for Cloud Data Management System

  • As new applications of cloud data management system (CDMS) such as online games, cooperation edit, social network, and so on, are increasing, transaction processing capabilities for CDMS are required. Several transaction processing methods for cloud data management system (CDMS) have been proposed. However, existing transaction processing methods have some problems. Some of them provide limited transaction processing capabilities. Some of them are hard to be integrated with existing CDMSs. In this paper, we proposed a new concurrency control method to support transaction processing capability for CDMS to solve these problems. The proposed method was designed and implemented based on Spark, an in-memory distributed processing framework. It uses RDD (Resilient Distributed Dataset) model to provide fault tolerant to data in the main memory. In our proposed method, database stored in CDMS is loaded to main memory managed by Spark. The loaded data set is then transformed to RDD. In addition, we proposed a multi-version concurrency control method through immutable characteristics of RDD. Finally, we performed experiments to show the feasibility of the proposed method.

Optical Wireless Access Point Agent Networks

  • This paper proposes an optical wireless transfer agent method which realizes the continuous and swift data transfer of optical wireless terminals in optical wireless networks. The unguided wireless channel generally shows frequent link disconnections and propagation delays due to weak wireless links. Specially speaking, optical wireless channels have more vulnerable links and roaming propagation delays relative to the weakness of the previous RF channels due to their low signal connectivity and small geographic coverage. Conventional optical wireless network protocols did not consider any fault models about physical link faults. Consequently, they have shown data transfer inefficiency for both data link control and physical wireless link control. To overcome these optical wireless environmental problems, this paper suggests a new wireless access point (or base station) agent system, which provides wireless or mobile clients with previous link layer protocols compensated.

  • This paper presents a failure diagnosis and accommodation strategy which is capable of tolerating faulty actuators of a submersible vehicle. The proposed method is mainly based on a sliding mode control technique. The primary ideas include a performance index to describe the effectiveness of actuators, and a controller reconfiguration strategy using the actuator effectiveness index. The actuator effectiveness proposed in this work is defined as the relationship between the sliding surface and the controlled system behavior. The resulting actuator effectiveness is then used in reconfiguring the controller in order to counteract for the deteriorated control performance in the presence of a faulty actuator. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated by means of numerical simulations with a submersible vehicle.

Eliminating the Third Harmonic Effect for Six Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators in One Phase Open Mode

  • To insure stable operation and eliminate twice torque ripple, a topology for a six phase permanent magnet synchronous generator (SP-PMSG) with a neutral point connected together was analyzed in this paper. By adopting an extended transformation matrix, the mathematic model of the space vector control was established. The voltage and torque equations were deduced while considering the third harmonic flux and inductance. In addition, the suppression third harmonic method and the closed loop control strategy were proposed. A comparison analysis indicates that the cooper loss minimum method and the current magnitude minimum method can meet different application requirements. The voltage compensation amount for each of the methods was deduced which also takes into account the third harmonic effect. A simulation and experimental result comparison validates the consistency through theoretical derivation. It can be seen that all of the two control strategies can meet the requirements of post-fault.

PLC 오류를 포용하는 이중화 시스템에 관한 연구 (A Study on Dual System for Fault Tolerance of PLC)

  • 본 연구에서는 PLC의 결함을 수용할 수 있는 시스템을 구현하기 위한 방법을 제안하고 실제적인 그 타당성을 찾아보고자 한다. 결함허용 제어시스템은 중단 없이 수리 및 점검을 가능하게 하여 생산손실을 최소화하고 전체 시스템에 대하여 신뢰도를 향상시키게 된다. 이러한 결함허용 시스템을 구현하기 위해서 시스템의 이중화를 제안하게 되는 것이다. 따라서 이러한 시스템을 제안하고, 결함허용 제어시스템의 시뮬레이션 및 실제 소성로(kiln)에 적용 실험을 통하여 확인하고, 아울러 PLC 제어시스템의 신뢰도를 향상시키기 위하여 고장(failure)의 예측 및 결함특성 그리고 시스템 구성에 따른 결함간의 평균 시간을 비교하여 각종 모듈의 이중화로 결함이나 고장을 허용할 수 있는 제어시스템을 구성하였다. 제안한 시스템에서 노드의 표현방법 및 시스템 모드와 운전 모드와의 관계, 에러발견 모드와 이중화 모드의 전환관계, 그리고 PLC의 중앙처리장치를 하나가 아닌 2개를 가진 2채널 방식의 마스터-스탠바이 전환운전 및 연속운전에 관한 알고리즘을 연구하고 이 알고리즘으로 결함허용에 대한 연속운전 방법 및 결과를 도출하였으며 이 결과를 실제 소성로 제어시스템에 적용하여 PLC 결함허용에 대한 연속운전을 확인하였다.

  • A multi-phase brushless direct current (BLDC) motor is widely used in large-capacity electric propulsion systems such as submarines and electric ships. In particular, in the field of military submarines, the polyphaser motor must suppress torque ripple in various failure situations to reduce noise and ensure stable operation for a long time. In this paper, we propose a polyphaser current control method that can improve efficiency and reduce torque ripple by minimizing the increase in stator winding loss at maximum output torque by controlling the phase angle and amplitude of the steady-state current during open circuit failure of the stator winding. The proposed control method controls the magnitude and phase angle of the healthy phase current, excluding the faulty phase, to compensate for the torque ripple that occurs in the case of a phase open failure of the motor. The magnitude and phase angle of the controlled steady-state current are calculated for each phase so that copper loss increase is minimized. The proposed control method was verified using hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) of a 12-phase BLDC motor. HILS verification confirmed that the increase in the loss of the stator winding and the magnitude of the torque ripple decreased compared with the open phase fault of the motor.

Quick Diagnosis of Short Circuit Faults in Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverters using FPGA

  • Fast and accurate fault detection is the primary step and one of the most important tasks in fault tolerant converters. In this paper, a fast and simple method is proposed to detect and diagnosis the faulty cell in a cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverter under a short circuit fault. In this method, the reference voltage is calculated using switching control pulses and DC-Link voltages. The comparison result of the output voltage and the reference voltage is used in conjunction with active cell pulses to detect the faulty cell. To achieve this goal, the cell which is active when the Fault signal turns to "0" is detected as the faulty cell. Furthermore, consideration of generating the active cell pulses is completely described. Since the main advantage of this method is its simplicity, it can be easily implemented in a programmable digital device. Experimental results obtained with an 11-level inverter prototype confirm the effectiveness of the proposed fault detection technique. In addition, they show that the diagnosis method is unaffected by variations of the modulation index.
