An Optimal Scrubbing Scheme for Auto Error Detection & Correction Logic (자가 복구 오류 검출 및 정정 회로 적용을 고려한 최적 스크러빙 방안)

  • Radiation particles can introduce temporary errors in memory systems. To protect against these errors, so-called soft errors, error detection and correcting codes are used. In addition, scrubbing is applied which is a fundamental technique to avoid the accumulation of soft errors. This paper introduces an optimal scrubbing scheme, which is suitable for a system with auto error detection and correction logic. An auto error detection and correction logic can correct soft errors without CPU's writing operation. The proposed scrubbing scheme leads to maximum reliability by considering both allowable scrubbing load and the periodic accesses to memory by the tasks running in the system.

  • Safety critical systems such as x-by-wire systems require in-vehicle network systems that can interconnect various sensors, actuators, and controllers. These networks need to have high data rate, deterministic operation, and fault tolerance. Recently, FlexRay protocol that is a time-triggered protocol has been introduced, and many automotive companies have been focusing on this protocol. This paper presents a design method of FlexRay network system and implementation of FlexRay-based motor control system.

  • Asynchronous digital circuits working in military and space environments are often subject to the adverse effects of radiation faults. In this paper, we propose a new hardening technique against radiation faults. The considered digital system has the structure of DMR (Double Modular Redundancy), in which two sub-systems conduct the same work simultaneously. Based on the output feedback, the proposed scheme diagnoses occurrences of radiation faults and realizes immediate recovery to the normal behavior by overriding parts of memory bits of the faulty sub-system. As a case study, the proposed control scheme is applied to an asynchronous dual ring counter implemented in VHDL code.

  • 유비쿼터스 환경은 서비스 이동과 자원 상태 변화 등 실행 환경 변화가 빈번히 발생한다. 이러한 가변하는 실행 환경에 적응하고 가용자원의 부족등으로 발생하는 결함까지 복구할 수 있는 적응형 자율 미들웨어 서비스를 통해 서비스의 계속성 및 고가용성을 보장해야 한다. 이 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 환경에 따라 자율적으로 적응하는 서비스 미들웨어에서 결함 감내 서비스를 지원하는 방법을 제시하였고 프로토타입 Wapee(Web-Service based Application Execution Environment)v0.1을 통해 실제 환경에서 적용가능성을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose a matrix star graph which improves the network cost of the well-known star grah as an interconnection network. We analyze its characteristics in terms of the network parameters, such as degree, scalability, routing, and diameter. The proposed matrix star graph MS2,n has the half degrees of a star graph S2n with the same number of nodes and is an interconnection network with the properties of node symmetry, maximum fault tolerance, and recursive structure. In network cost, a matrix star graph MS2,n and a star graph S2n are about 3.5n2 and 6n2 respectively which means that the former has a better value by a certain constant than the latter has.

  • In this paper, a novel test method is proposed to detect hard and soft fault in CMOS operational amplifiers. Proposed test method mark use of the offset character, which is one of the op-amps characteristics. During the test mode, CUT is implemented to unit gain op-amps with feedback loop. When the input is grounded, a good circuit has a small offset voltage, but a faulty circuit has a large offset voltage exceeding predefined range of tolerance. Using the proposed method, no test vector is required to be applied. Therefore the test vector generation problem is eliminated and the test time is reduced. The accuracy and effectiveness of the method is verified through HSPICE simulation.

  • This paper present the design of a novel neural-network (NN) based pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques for a three-level power converter of electric trains along with nonlinear mapping of essential switching patterns and fault tolerance, which are inherent characteristics of NNs. Considering the importance of safety, power factor and harmonics of electric train power converters, two-level type and three-level type of power converters using NNs are precisely investigated and compared in computer simulation. A computer simulation shows that a new current control scheme provides an improved performance over a fixed-band hysteresis current control in many aspects.

  • Recently, large amount of information in IDS(Intrusion Detection System) can be un manageable and also be mixed with false prediction error. In this paper, we propose a data mining methodology for IDS, which contains uncertainty based on training process and post-processing analysis additionally. Our system is trained to classify the existing attack for misuse detection, to detect the new attack pattern for anomaly detection, and to define border patter between attack and normal pattern. In experimental results show that our approach improve the performance against existing attacks and new attacks,from 0.62 to 0.84 about 35%.

  • Qualification Model of On-board Computer (OBC) for KAISTSAT-4 was developed. The OBC of KAISTASAT-4 has some improved features compared with that of KAISTSAT-3: To reduce weight and size of OBC many logics are implemented by FPGAs, and a network controller is included in OBC to access the satellite network with high speed. Also, the developed OBC has an improved tolerance against SEUs and faults. The OBC was fully tested under simulated space environment with no errors.

  • In this work, the software behavior under memory faults in operation phase is modeled and simulated using the stochastic activity network, generalized stochastic Petri nets. This networks permit the representation of concurrency, timeliness, fault tolerance, and degradable performance of system and provide a means for determining the stochastic behavior of a complex system. We estimate the reliability of an application software in the digitized system in nuclear power plants and show the sensitivity of the software reliability to the major physical parameters which affect the software failure in normal operation phase. We found that the effects of the hardware faults on the software failure should be considered for predicting the software dependability accurately in operation phase.
