A simplified methodology is presented to predict fatigue life and residual strength of composite structures. To avoid excessive amount of tests that are required for model characterization, strength degradation parameter is assumed as function of fatigue life. S-N curve is used to extract fatigue life that is required to characterize the stress levels comprising a randomly-ordered load spectrum. And different stress ratios are handled with Goodman correction approach(fatigue envelope). It is assumed that the residual strength is a function of the number of loading cycles and applied fatigue stress amplitude. And the residual strength distribution after an arbitrary load cycles is represented by two parameter Weibull functions.
Prediction of composite fatigue life is not a straightforward matter, depending on various failure modes and their interactions. In this paper, a methodology is presented to predict fatigue life and residual strength of composite materials based on Phenomenological Model(non-linear fatigue damage model). It is assumed that the residual strength is a monotonically decreasing function of the number of loading cycles and applied fatigue stress ratio and the model parameters(strength degradation parameter and fatigue shape parameter) are assumed as function of fatigue life. Then S-N curve is used to extract model parameters that are required to characterize the stress levels comprising a randomly-ordered load spectrum. Different stress ratios (${\sigma}_{min}/{\;}{\sigma}_{max}$) are handled with Goodman correction approach(fatigue envelope) and the residual strength after an arbitrary load cycles is represented by two parameter weibull functions.

In this study, the prediction of the fatigue life as well as the extimation of the characteristics of fatigue cumulative damage on GFRP under random loading were performed. The constant amplitude tests and the ramdom loading test were carried on notched GFRP specimens with a circular hole. Random waves were generated with a micro-computer and had wide band spectra. Since it is useful that the prediction of fatigue life ot the given load sequences is based on S-N curves under constant amplitude loading, the estimation of equivalent stress is done on every random waves. The equivalent stress wasat first estimated by Miner's rule and then by the proposed model which was based on Hashin-Rotem's comulative damage theory regarding nonlinear fatigue cumulative damage behavior. The fatigue lives were predicted from each equivalent stress evaluated. And each predicted fatigue llife was compared with experimental results. The number of cycles of random loads were counted by mean-cross counting method. The reuslts showed that the fatigue life predicted by proposed model was correlated well with the experimental results in comparison with Miner's model.
S-N fatigue behavior of cast 304 stainless steel was studied at 25, -50 and $-196^{\circ}C$ and at a stress ratio of -1 in uniaxial and bending loading condition. It was found that the resistance to S-N fatigue was greatly improved with decreasing testing temperature. The normalized S-N fatigue curves by tensile strength at three different testing temperatures matched each other, suggesting that tensile strength determines the S-N fatigue resistance of cast 304 stainless steel at low temperatures. The effects of different loading on the resistance to S-N fatigue of cast 304 stainless steel were quantified. The S-N fatigue curves at 25, -50 and $-196^{\circ}C$ were described by using Basquin's law the relationship between the S-N fatigue curve and the testing temperature was obtained by using a simple regression method.
The welded specimens were made by butt welding of the 2 wires of 50mm length using the pulsed YAG laser. The laser welded wires were tested for investigating the shape memory effect and the ability of super elasticity. The fatigue properties of the welded wires were investigated using the rotary bending fatigue tester specially designed for wires. Moreover, the effect of defocusing distance during laser welding on the static and fatigue properties was Investigated. The shape memory effect and super elasticity of the laser welded wires were approximately identical with that of base metal at the test temperature below 353K. However, the welded wires were broken within elastic limit at the test temperature above 353k. Under the cyclic bending loading conditions, the welded wires could be useful only below the elastic limit, while the base metal had sufficient fatigue life even the stress induced M-phase region. The fatigue strength of the welded wires was about half of that of the base metal. The deterioration of the static and fatigue properties in the welded wires was proven to be from the large difference of the transformation behavior between the base metal and welded part that is caused by vaporization of Ni-content at the welded part during the welding process. The defocusing distance below 3mm acted more largely on lowering the strength of the welded wires than that of 6mm or 8mm.
As an LNG carrier preserves and transports liquefied natural gas under minus $163^{\circ}C$, the cargo tank has to have sufficient hull strength against not only the wave loads but also against loads caused by loading and unloading and thermal expansion to keep the LNG safely. The main insulation types for a CCS are No.96 and Mark III from GTT for the membrane LNG carrier. Particularly, the invar membrane plate in No.96 is very thin and its connections could experience high local stresses owing to such dynamic loads. Therefore, it should be verified whether those connections have sufficient fatigue lives for the purpose of operation and maintenance. This research aims at performing fatigue analysis with 0.1 fatigue damage criteria for 40 years of design life to support new membrane CCS development using proper S-N curves and the associated finite element modeling technique for each connection and then propose a reasonable design methodology.

According to our fatigue tests carried out at 20 Hz, R=0.1 on transversely butt-welded joints, fatigue strengths of as-welded specimens, that is, specimens having residual stress are higher than those of annealed specimens in short life range, but vice verse in long life range. This behavior seems to be concerned mainly with residual stress relaxation by applied loading. After analyzing the welding process, we conducted finite element analysis to quantify the degree of residual stress relaxation. By taking into account residual stress relaxation, modified Goodman diagram, and nominal stress, we evaluated the fatigue life of the welded joint from the S-N curve for the parent material. The estimated results are in a good agreement with the experimental results.

In this study, the fatigue test at room temperature and residual resistivity measurement test at 12K were carried out, respectively, using a 9 strand Cu-Ni/NbTi/Cu composite cable, in order to investigate how the fatigue damage effects on critical properties. Through the fatigue test of a 9 strand Cu-Ni/NbTi/Cu composite cable, a conventional S-N curve was obtained even though there existed a possibility of fretting among strands. From the resistivity measurement of a NbTi strand after fatigue tests, it was found that with increase of the repeated number the RRR increased slightly, and the trend became significant with increase in maximum value of the applied stress amplitude.

Fatigue fracture behavior of a hybrid joint between side-panel and under-frame by riveting and adhesive bonding has been evaluated. Two kinds of joint specimens based on real geometry were fabricated for shearing test as well as bending test. Static and cyclic loadings were used for fatigue assessment. Fatigue fracture results obtained by such experiments were reflected in modifications of design parameters of the hybrid joint.
Switching behaviour of the ferroelectric thin film and device characteristics of the MFSFET (Metal-Ferroelectric-Semiconductor FET) are simulated with taking into account the accumulation of oxygen vacancies near interface between the ferroelectric thin film and the bottom electrode caused by the progress of fatigue. We show net switching current decreases due fatigue in the switching model. It indicates that oxygen vacancy strongly suppresses polarization reversal. The difference of saturation drain current of the device before fatigue is shown by the dual threshold voltages in I$_{D}$-V$_{D}$ curve as 6㎃/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and decreases as much as 50% after fatigue. Our simulation model is expected to play an important role in estimation of the behavior of MFSFET device with various ferroelectric thin films.lms.
