In this paper, we implement the fast handovers for mobile IPv6 (FMIPv6) on Linux system. Due to its dependency on operations in layer-2 (L2), we have added some functions into the network driver to generate triggers as the mobile node moves. We design and implement the FMIPv6 functions divided into two parts as an access router and a mobile node. We compare the packet loss and delay of the FMIPv6 implementation during the handover period with those of the MIPv6 and investigate the performance improvement.
Multicast service will be required to be an important form of communication without interruption to the delivery of multicast service in mobile networks increasing MNs. In this paper, we review current status of PMIPv6(Proxy Mobile IPv6) multicast listener support being standardized in the IETF and point out limitations of the current approach and we proposed a fast multicast handover procedure in inter domain PMIPv6 network of network-based mobility management. The proposed Fast multicast handover procedure in inter domain optimizes multicast management by using the context of the MNs. We evaluate the proposed fast multicast handover procedure compared to the based one through the developed analytical models and confirm that introduced fast multicast handover procedure provides the reduced service interruption time and total network overhead compared to the based one during handovers.

Handover is very important to support the mobility of user because wireless ATM networks have smaller cell size such as micro/pico cell for broadband mobile multimedia service In this paper, we propose dynamic path reservation handover scheme for fast inter-MSC (Mobile Switching Center) handovers To reduce the handover delay for connection re-routing, the proposed scheme reserves virtual channels from nearest common node to neighbor MSC in advance Especially, our handover scheme predicts the number of inter-MSC handover calls at each period by the prediction algorithm and reserve virtual channels The simulation and analysis results show that our scheme reduce handover complexity and has higher reservation channel utilization, compared with DVCT scheme.
The multi user communications that is called as the multicast service should be applied into the evolving mobile networks. In this paper, we propose a fast multicast management scheme for mobile terminals in HMIPv6 (Hierarchical Mobile IPv6) based mobile networks. In HMIPv6 based mobile networks, we consider the mobile terminal mobility that the multicast management scheme during mobile handover is used for the multicast routing changing. The changing impact to the multicast routing Is determined from handovers in intra AR, and in inter AR or MAP. In this paper, we propose multicast supporting schemes that the tunneling scheme is used in intra AR handover, and the previous subscription scheme is used in inter AR handover for considering the changing impact of the multicast routing.

This article presents a field evaluation of an IP-based architecture for heterogeneous environments that has been developed under the aegis of the Moby Dick project, covering UMTS-like (universal mobile telecommunications system) TD-CDMA (time division-code division multiple access) wireless access technology, wireless and wired LANs. The architecture treats all transmission capabilities as basic physical and data-link layers, and replaces all higher-level tasks by IP-based strategies. The Moby Dick architecture incorporates mobile IPv6, fast handovers, AAA-control (authentication, authorisation, accounting), charging and quality of service (QoS) in an integrated framework. The architecture further allows for optimised control on the radio link layer resources. It has been implemented and tested by expert users, and evaluated by real users on field trials with multiple services available.

In this paper, a new handover management scheme has been proposed to reduce handover latency and to support fast handover without packet losses, so that it may be applicable to the wireless mobile Internet system such as IPv6-based WiBro system. To minimize the handover latency in processing of movement detection, we propose the handover management scheme which simplifies the handover message exchanging procedure between mobile subscriber station (MSS) and network by integrating layer 2 and layer 3 handovers efficiently based on the layer2 information. To reduce the processing delay from new care-of-address (NCoA) configuration during handover, we propose that NCoA is created, distributed and managed by new access control router (NACR). In addition, in order to minimize the packet transmission delay and eliminate the packet losses, the proposed scheme employs a crossover router (CR) which is upper network located over PACR and NACR and employs the packet buffering for MSS. The simulation study shows that the proposed scheme achieves loss-free packet delivery and low latency in the environment of narrow overlapped cell area or high velocity of the MSS, comparing the performance with the conventional schemes.

Considering that the existing Long Term Evolution is not suitable for the fast and frequent handovers of high-speed trains, this paper proposes a relay-assisted handover mechanism to solve the problems of long handover authentication time and vulnerable to security attacks. It can achieve mutual authentication for train-ground wireless communication, and data transmission is consistent with one-time pad at the same time. The security analysis, efficiency analysis and simulation results show that the proposed mechanism not only realizes the forward security and resists many common attacks, but also effectively reduces the computational overhead of train antenna during the secure handover process. When the running speed of a train is lower than 500km/h, the handover delay is generally lower than 50ms and the handover outage probability is less than 1.8%. When the running speed of a train is 350km/h, the throughput is higher than 16.4mbps in the process of handover. Therefore, the secure handover mechanism can improve the handover performance of high-speed trains.

In this paper, we propose the next-generation broadband wireless access network architecture, which is based on the wavelength division multiplexing-passive optical network(WDM-PON), and efficient mobility management scheme to support quality-of-service(QoS) of multimedia services in the next-generation wireless network. By adapting WDM-PON technology to wireless access network, the proposed scheme can realize broadband wireless access network. In addition, We utilize newly proposed local channels between optical network units(ONUs) or subnets in order to support the fast and efficient local data and handoff data transmission. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of handoff delay and packet loss thru computer simulation. Thru various computer simulation results, we verified the superior performance of the proposed scheme by comparing with the results of other schemes.

With the increasing deployment of mobile devices and the advent of broadband wireless access systems such as WiBro, WiMAX, and HSDPA, an efficient IP mobility management protocol becomes one of the most important technical issues for the successful deployment of the broadband wireless data networking service. IETF has proposed the Mobile IPv6(MIPv6) as the basic mobilitymanagement protocol for IPv6 networks. To enhance the performance of the basic MIPv6, researchers have been actively working on HMIPv6 and FMIPv6 protocols. In this paper, we propose a new mobility management protocol, HIMIPv6 (Highly Integrated MIPv6), which tightly integrates the hierarchical mobility management mechanism of the HMIPv6 and the proactive handover support of the FMIPv6 to enhance the handover performance especially for the cellular networking environment with high frequent handover activities. We have performed extensive simulation study using ns-2 and the results show that the proposed HIMIPv6 outperforms MIPv6, FMIPv6 and HMIPv6 in terms of signaling overhead, service interruption and packet lost during handovers.

Mobility and quality of service (QoS) are becoming the more important issues in wireless communications. The traditional Internet service is expanding into new access media and applications. Since wireless communication services are accompanied by frequent handovers at remote sites, scalable and fast handover has become a prerequisite for ubiquitous communication. In this paper, the differentiated service (Diffserv) model is deployed in heterogeneous proxy mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) networks to satisfy the QoS guaranteed service and fast handover requirements. The operational procedures for QoS guaranteed global roaming are presented. In addition, QoS management and handover cost evaluation schemes based on a mobile host's movement scope are proposed. This paper analyzes the reduction in handover delay in a network-based localized mobility management framework. We propose and analyze a PMIPv6 optimized with a global mobile access gateway (G-MAG), which is a network-based entity, to further improve the handover performance in terms of handover delay while maintaining minimal signaling overhead in the air interface among converged heterogeneous wireless networks. The handover signaling procedures with host-based MIPv6 are compared with network-based proxy MIPv6 (PMIPv6) and fast PMIPv6 assisted by G-MAG to show how much handover delay reduction can be achieved. Analytical results show that the handover delay is significantly reduced.
