  • The purpose of this study is to propose an enhanced variable-speed control method of ground-water circulation pumps using inlet and outlet ground-water temperature difference and analyze its effect for the ground source multi-heat pump system installed in a single-family house. As a result, it has shown to significantly reduce the electricity use of ground-water circulation pump and improve overall system Coefficient of Performance (COP) due to the proposed variable-speed control under partial load conditions after oversized and inefficient single-speed pump retrofit.

  • Today, the rapid economic growth and emerging new trends have been changed radically throughout the society and they especially have affected the changes of life-style and the diversity of residents'demands in housing life. This changes of life have brought the shift in family form from traditional type, thus new phase of nuclear family means that it makes on the whole, variable family forms such as single family, non-blood one, a generation one and so on. It therefore is time that we should not only explore current housing plans, but envisage concept of new living space to satisfy latent need of the occupants. But the forms, in spite of the diversity of user's needs and the change of life-style, of many houses as many apartment and tenement houses supplied so far have been clearly limted, and housing policy of the mass-supply causes monotonous space composition, over-occupation and non-changeability. Now, the collective houses have some limits owing to the commoness and assemblage, but they have failed to keep up with the variable and changeable life-style of residents. These problems, to put it concretely, lead to increasing needs for the number of rooms in proportion to family members, for the change of behavior using the space. We therefore need to propose the new living space. As the current plans for designing house are based on the average life-style of people, they can not cope with variable demands of the resident. For that reason, this paper will propose the manual space system as an alternative for it and the goal is to suggest new furniture system which we need to create the flexibility of living space.

  • This study explored the relationships among such variables as work-family compatibility, gender attitude, reasons for low birth rate, and education level, using a sample of 2,678 from the '2009 National Survey for Marriage and Birth Trend'. The purpose of this study was to identify the ideas about how to support married couples' work-family balance, and how to change gender attitude to promote childbirth. The results are as follows. The type of ideal work-family balance was different by education level, but not by gender. Low level of education was associated with choice of the full time work without a child. Male singles, compared to female singles, preferred the role of a man as a bread winner, and a woman as a house worker. Female singles had the higher level of hope for husband's capability of caring children. This trend was intensified by choice of the full time work with 2 children. Singles who prefer working as a full time worker with 2 children worried more about low birth rate in Korea than singles who prefer working as a part time worker with one or two children. The most frequently cited reason for low birth rate was 'high cost of both child care and education'. The next was 'difficulty in buying a residence, followed by 'increase in the number of career woman'. Female singles who want to work full time with 2 or more children worried more about the burden of child caring and education than male singles. Implications and suggestions were provided based on the results.

  • This paper aims to examine whether there are significant differences in various aspects of a household's arrangements by type of employment of married woman; 1) the extent of the division of labor, 2) the authority of decision making, and 3) financial and expenditure responsibilities. It also investigates the determinants of gender equality in the family. Based on data collected in the fall of 2002 from a representative sample of the Korean population, this study finds that nonstandard employment of married woman including temporary work and daily basis work does not contribute to gender equality within the household, although most of nonstandard employees are full-time workers. However, standard employment of married woman contribute to gender equality in the family. The results of this study show that husbands whose wives are standard-employed are more likely to take part in housework chores that are female-dominated, and standardly employed wives are more likely than non-standardly employed or housewives to take part in the household's financial and expenditure responsibilities. Standardly employed wives also have more power in decision making process within households. On the contrary, non-standardly employed wives gain no advantage over housewives within their families, due to lack of bargaining resources that enable them to affect the household's arrangements. Thus, they have confronted additional burdens, which stem from carrying the dual role of doing house work as well as paid work. Such increasing work-family conflict may bring about disruption of family. Therefore, this study maintains that it is high time that government-level efforts should be made in order to improve the status of irregularly employed wives in the workplace.

  • Until now, we have a great progress in computer hardwares and computer softwares. Many people think these days as the information time or information society. Even though, we make a great progress in the computer science, we can not regard this society as the information society, if we do not accept the development of computer in our real life. In order to provide desirable residential environment for the information - society, it is necessary to review previous housing projects from the Industrial - Revolution to these days. Thus this study deals with limits of modern housings. This research also suggests a new housing concept for the information - society by reinterpretation of the Korean traditional houses. Use of space in the Korean traditional houses was mostly interpreted by the concept of sexual discrimination from Confucianism. However it is suggested in this study, that An-Chae is a home space for providing privacy of family and Sarang - Chae is a social space for providing social activity. Thus it is found that the Korean traditional house has been used as office as well as home. In this view, it is suggested that Korean traditional houses be the prototype of future house as a business space and also as a home space. In this study, 3 types of housing for the information - society are suggested; flat type, tower type and skip floor type. these houses have two entrances independently for the home space and the social space. Therefore each space has no interference with each other. Then one can do his own at home efficiently. He does not have to go to his office in downtown. One can relieve traffic congestions in the city and reduce air contamination.
