Transgenesis in Fish: Indian Endeavour and Achievement

  • The first Indian transgenic fish was generated in 1991 using borrowed constructs from foreign sources. To construct transformation vectors for the indigenous fishes, growth hormone genes of rohu (r-CH), Labeo rohita and catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis were isolated, cloned and sequenced; their fidelity was confirmed in prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems. A vector was constructed with grass carp b-actin promoter driving the expression of r-GH. Rohu eggs are large. fragile and swell 2~3 times. when fertilized. Hence they were amenable only for electroporated sperm-mediated gene transfer. Accordingly, the sperm electroporation technique was standardized to ensure 25% hatchling survival and 37% Presumptive transgenics without suffering any deformity. Southern analysis confirmed genomic integration in 15% of the tested individuals (Ti) belonging to family lines 2 and 3: another 25% of the Juveniles (Te) were also proved transgenic but with the transgene persisting extrachromosomally for longer than 1 to 2 years. perhaps due to the presence of replicon in the vector. Transgenics belonging to different family lines grew 6~8 times faster than the respective controls. Difference in growth trends of Ti and Te within a family line was not significant. In the Ti family 3 remarkable growth acceleration was sustained for a period longer than 36 weeks but in those of family 2, it gradually decreased. All transgenic fishes including the rohu converted the food at a significantly higher efficiency. Barring the transgenic mudloach, all the other transgenic fishes consumed food at significantly reduced rate.

  • This purpose of research is to offer basic materials for analyzing organizational structure in an effort to develop a standardized model that considers regional characteristics with the ultimate goal being the establishment of a National Health and Family Support Center. Research methods include aliterature survey data. The research target is 94 centers run by the National Health Family Support Center training. These are assessed in terms of their regional characteristics. The objectives of this paper are as follows: 1. To look at the present National Healthy Family Support Center's yearly conditions investigate the regional characteristics. 2. To analyze the National Healthy Family Support Center's annual organizational managements and operations characteristics. 3. To analyze the National Healthy Family Support Center's regional characteristics (Urban-only-, Urban-Rural Integration, Rural-only-) in terms of its organizational management and operations. First, at the national, county, and ward levels, Health and Family Support Center can have family intervention purpose. Regional Center should be operated to keep pace with custom of different regions. Standardization can also be beneficial, including considerations such as agricultural needs and a type center. Improved formulation for a structure-dependent integration method

  • Structure-dependent integration methods seem promising for structural dynamics applications since they can integrate unconditional stability and explicit formulation together, which can enable the integration methods to save many computational efforts when compared to an implicit method. A newly developed structure-dependent integration method can inherit such numerical properties. However, an unusual overshooting behavior might be experienced as it is used to compute a forced vibration response. The root cause of this inaccuracy is thoroughly explored herein. In addition, a scheme is proposed to modify this family method to overcome this unusual overshooting behavior. In fact, two improved formulations are proposed by adjusting the difference equations. As a result, it is verified that the two improved formulations of the integration methods can effectively overcome the difficulty arising from the inaccurate integration of the steady-state response of a high frequency mode.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how the relationship with grandparents and intergenerational integration program influences the children's attitudes toward elderly. Data for the study were collected from 132 elementary school students who attended the regional children's centers or social education centers that conduct intergenerational integration programs. The respondents reported positive attitudes toward elderly and perceived elderly as kind, likable, bright, clean and happy. A multiple regression analysis was conducted to identify the variables that affect children's attitudes toward elderly. While frequency of contact with grandparents, perceptions about grandparents, and frequency of intergenerational integration programs had strong effects on the children's attitudes toward elderly, experience of living with grandparents, perceptions about the intergenerational integration programs, and helpfulness of the intergenerational integration programs did not show significant effects on children's attitudes toward elderly.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the model for the family welfare service delivery system in Korea. In order to provide more effective and efficient delivery system it is necessary to evaluate the existng family welfare delivery system. By the review of literature family welfare delivery system is fragmentary and inconsistent. Then the role of informal voluntary public and commercial sector in the delivery system is examined Lastly the models for family welfare service delivery system are proposed. Major suggestions are as follows: 1, It is necessary to reform the family welfare service delivery system for considering the integration of the family life. 2. Family welfare worker ought to coordinate the service to meet the complex needs of individuals and the family 3.   • Objective : To summarize and interpret observations of responses of child with sensory modulation disorder during four therapy sessions in order to contribute to future studies. Method : Analyze treatment goals and strengths and weaknesses of four therapy sessions and discuss implications of therapy. Results : Child's adaptive responses were improved throughout the therapy sessions. Conclusions : Intensive sensory integration therapy is needed continuously. Future study with this participant is needed to explore more effectiveness of sensory integration therapy.

  • Objective : Korean Academy of Sensory Integration(KASI) planned and executed sensory integration Therapy Camp to serve intensive sensory integration program for children with the sensory integrative dysfunction, to support their family with parent' education and home programs, and to suggest practical guideline for therapists through individual supervision and demonstrations. Methods : The camp was held during 5days in the children's center for developmental support that set up sensory integration tools. The camp executed the individual and group interventions that consisted of 7 children with sensory integrative dysfunction, especially dyspraxia and 7 therapists who manage them and 6 supervisors. Results : Children which served the intensive intervention showed the improved adaptive responses during the camp and their parents reported the satisfaction degree of the camp program was 83%. Their therapists also had a chance to understand the broader sensory integrative interventions through the supervision. Conclusion : To provide the clients for qualitative sensory integration service, the camp must be programmed that children with the sensory integrative dysfunction can service the intensive sensory integration program and their therapists can actually experience reeducation individually through supervision and demonstrations.

A Case Study of Sandplay Therapy for an Elementary School Boy Living in a Small Income Fatherless Family Who Exhibits Maladjustments in Both School and Home (학교와 가정에서 부적응 문제를 보이는 저소득 모자가정 초등학생 남아의 모래놀이치료 사례연구)

  • This study explored the sandplay therapy case of a 5th grade boy who was living in a small income fatherless family from the viewpoints of both sandplay theory and related literatures. The goal of the therapy was to lessen his difficulties under the free and protected space of sandplay therapy. This study comprised 59 sessions of sandplay therapy. The subject exhibited his situations in the initial parts of therapy(1~5, the preparation for war against enemies) by putting miniatures related to Egypt and by placing Indians who were keeping the house from enemies. In the intermediate sessions(6~47, holding a ceremony), he repeated burning rituals, played finding treasures, and exhibited both struggle and construction. In the final parts(48~59, integration), he showed integration by expressing the adaptation to the collective. This study indicated the effectiveness of sandplay therapy, because his maladjustments in both school and home were reduced.

Nurses' Work-family Boundary Management (간호사의 일-가정 경계선 관리)

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore how nurses manage the boundary for work-family balance. Methods: Data were collected through in-depth interviews from February 1 to May 28, 2012. Participants were 13 married nurses with children. The constant comparative method was adapted for data analysis. Results: In this study, nurses' work-family boundary management had characteristics of integration, maintenance and control, but it was adjusted and modified over time as the order of priorities was rearranged according to changes in internal cognition and family support. Nurses strategically persuaded their families to understand their work and share housework in an effort to integrate work and family, while controlling them by managing working hours and time for themselves. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that nurses' work has an impact on family life due to heavy workload and insufficient time, however the work-family balance can be successfully maintained with the effective separation of the two areas.

The Effect of Family-Centered Coaching Based on Sensory Integration on the Performance of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (감각통합 기반의 가족중심코칭이 자폐스펙트럼장애 아동의 작업수행에 미치는 효과)

  • Objective : This study explored the effects of family-centered coaching using a sensory integration-based approach on the levels of performance and satisfaction for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Methods : From April 16, 2020 to August 6, 2020, participants included 10 children with ASD, between the ages of three to six who met the inclusion criteria, and their guardians. I used the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM) to evaluate the children's levels of performance and satisfaction and the Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS) to evaluate their occupational performance. The experimental group (n=5) continued the sensory integration therapy while receiving their personalized family-centered coaching training for 60 minutes per week. This continued for four weeks via home visits and video calls. The control group (n=5) also continued to receive the sensory integration therapy while receiving sensory integration-based general counseling in relation to activity objectives. Results : Statistically significant differences were found in the scores of COPM performance and satisfaction and the GAS scores between the experimental group and the control group, before and after the intervention (p<.05). Statistically significant differences were found in score changes in COPM and GAS, between the two groups (p<.05). Cohen's d also showed a big effect size on the scores of COPM satisfaction (d=2.768) and the GAS scores (d=2.786). Conclusion : This study demonstrated that the sensory integration-based, family-centered coaching had more positive effects on the level of performance and satisfaction of children with ASD, than general counseling.
