Pyroprocessing technology has been regarded as a promising solution for recycling spent fuel in nuclear power plants. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has been studying the current status of equipment and facilities for pyroprocessing and found that existing facilities are manually operated; therefore, their applications have been limited to laboratory scale because of low productivity and safety concerns. To extend the pyroprocessing technology to a commercial scale, the facility, including all the processing equipment and the material-handling devices, should be enhanced in view of automation. In an automated pyroprocessing facility, a supervised control system is needed to handle and manage material flow and associated operations. This article provides a preliminary design of the supervising system for pyroprocessing. In particular, a manufacturing execution system intended for an automated pyroprocessing facility, named Pyroprocessing Execution System, is proposed, by which the overall production process is automated via systematic collaboration with a planning system and a control system. Moreover, a simulation-based prototype system is presented to illustrate the operability of the proposed Pyroprocessing Execution System, and a simulation study to demonstrate the interoperability of the material-handling equipment with processing equipment is also provided.

Due to its high dependency of manpower, construction work has several difficulties in terms of quality control, imbalance of supply and demand of qualified manpower, safety management for them and improvement of production. Such problems related to the management can be at some degree solved by introducing an automation facility. Since the unique environment of a construction site in the past was not structured, it is very hard to introduce a facility to automate construction work from operation of the equipment to assignment of where to work. This is a preliminary research for automation of construction work. In this study, the trend of development of a cutting-edge technology, RTLS, was researched and analyzed in order to review the possibility of utilizing RTLS in construction work and present a control mechanism for construction equipment. Although the presented mechanism is at the concept stage, which still has lots of restrictions to be solved, the application of the RTLS will be very much feasible. That is, if linkage of the study between the RTLS and the automation of construction is built, it will be expected to contribute to many fields such as cost reduction through efficient and systemic management, the reduction of construction period and precise construction as well as raising the level of the automation of domestic construction work.
It was analyzed the causes of boiler tube rupture due to a degradation and corrosion on the boiler tubes in fossil power plant. The experiments were carried out among samples taken from the operating facilities. The result were analyzed based on experimental results from mechanical strength, microstructure observation, and hardness measurement in order to determine the cause of local rupture on boiler tubes. In general, 2.25Cr-1Mo steel generates carbides, it is coarsened, its ductility and strength abruptly decreased as degradation is in progress, In order to confirm this phenomenon, we observed changes of the mount of Cr and Mo of carbide by carrying out EDX chemical composition analysis. The amount of Cr and Mo in the degraded material or service exposed material gradually increased the amount of Mo but initially they were almost maintained at the same amount. Furthermore, we observed that the carbide become coarsened both in the grain and at the grain boundary. Tensile test was carried out to measure a material hardness and to recognize a drop-off of hardness. Overall result for tensile strength and hardness turned out to be lower than new material and mechanical strength and hardness was degraded as the material degradation was in progress.

In the existing pharmacy automation system, quantity control was carried out only in the memory without first measuring the quantity of the medicine and during the operation of the facility. As a result, the number of drugs that have already been deducted during operation at the time of a facility error has not been managed. Serious problems are caused by important medicines that need to be managed because of lack of quantity control. In addition, the user had to refill the drug when it was exhausted because the user could not know the amount of the drug outside the facility. When the drug was out of stock, the facility was operating with loss of time to restart and the time to replenish the drug. Thus, in this paper, we designed and applied system to control the quantity of medicines frequently by adding displacement sensors to the robot of the facility.
The paper provides a methodology to obtain the automaticity indicator of a factory and the sequence of enabling technologies of factory automation. The automaticity indicator is the measure of the current automation status of a factory and can be used as a crucial criteria for the future automation schedule and investment. Although most industries have their own computation methods which usually consider the number of workers in the shop floor, this research covers five evaluation items of automation, such as, production facility, material transfer system, inspection and test system, information system, and flexibility. The detailed evaluation models are developed for each item. Automation sequencing prioritizes the enabling technologies of factory automation on the basis of several criteria which consist of two phases. The first phase includes the automation indicator and the second phase includes six sub-criteria such as production rate, quality, number of workers, capital investment, development duration, development difficulty. For this evaluation, AHP(Analytical Hierarchy Process) is introduced to prevent the decision maker's subject intention. As results of the automaticity indicator and automation sequence, the manager can save time and cost in building constructive and transparent automation plans.

The IT project for power plants initiated domestically in 2005 necessitates the power equipment facility and the controllers for those to be sufficiently adaptable for automation system for power substations. This implies that the power plants using power equipments must be developed to satisfy the IEC61850 standards. The IEC61850 communication standards that all power equipment and facility and controllers installed in automation system for power substations must follow has had its Parts 3 and Part 4 established as international standard in January 2002 and Part 10 in May 2005, the last to become international standard. Hence all separate parts of the original IEC61850 standard came to be established as international standards. As a consequence, after 2005, in most power substations around the world the IEC61850 standard is being applied and the prominent makers are geared towards manufacturing products to the IEC61850 standard. The IEC61850 is being recognized as an essential standard that must be applied to not only power substations but for automation of power systems and communication systems. In this research, the Gateway device that connects current SCADA system and IEC61580 based system has been domesticated with Korea‘s own technology and extensive testing was carried out in order to obtain confidence in its performance.
Recently, a research on a smart factory was developed from a concept of factory automation(FA) to the formation of collecting and analyzing data. This trend is accelerated as the development of communication technology(5G) and IoT devices are developed in various ways according to the field situation. In addition, digital transformation has been actively conducted in the strengthening corporate competitiveness, and various optimization studies are being conducted through process re-adjustment by combining data received from various IoT equipment and automated facilities. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a system architecture and its related components in diagnosing and repairing facility failure using a prediction system which is one of the related researches.
