A digital logic demodulator for binary FSK signals is presented. The operation is based on the quadricorrelator which is known as an ideal frequency detector. The demodulator is especially suitable for high-speed application, and it can be easily implemented in integrated circuit. Computer simulation results show that the performance of the receiver with digital demodulator converges to that of analog quadricorrelator receiver as the number of mixing axes is increased and the optimum bandwidth depending on a modulation index is slightly wider than that of analog demodulator.

In this paper, FSK(Frequency Shift Keying) demodulator which is widely used for FH-SS system is designed and the experimental results are analyzed. The performance of the ADPLL(All-digital Phase-Locked-Loop), which is the main part of the demodulator circuit, is analyzed by the computer program. Using Maxplus-II tool provided by altera. co., ltd, each part of the ADPLL is designed and all of them is integrated into EPM7064SLC44-10 chip. And the simulation results are compared with the characteristics of the implemented circuits for analysis. There is about 2${\mu}\textrm{s}$ difference in time constant of the PLL. This difference is not critical in the demodulator. And the experimental results show that the transmitted data is well demodulated when the phase difference between the FSK modulated signal and the reference signal is about 180 degree.

This paper describes a Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) modulator and demodulator and the experimented underwater data ommunication equipment to transfer the analog echo signal in real-time from an underwater vehicle to the mother ship. The system consists of an echo signal transfer unit equipped to the vehicle and an ultrasonic receiver equipped on the ship. The former includes an ultrasonic transceiver unit of 180kHz for echo detection and a continuous wave transmitter of 50kHz with a FSK modulator for echo transmission to the ship. The latter includes an ultrasonic receiver of 50kHz and the FSK demodulator. The results of experiment are as follows. 1. The characteristics of the FSK modulating and demodulating circuits designed with the use of C-MOS IC 4046 was good and confirmed its usefulness in underwater data communication system.2. The prototype ultrasonic transceiver unit shows profitable driving power while the pulse duration was short less than 3 msec, but it was found that the driving power is not sufficient while the long pulse duration or continuous wave is used. The gain of the ultrasonic receiver was 80 dB and the receiving bandwidth 700Hz (at - 3 dB point).3. It was found that the system designed by the author has some possibility to use in underwater echo transfer.4. At the FSK modulator, the widths of voltage and frequency which represent linearity were 3.5 V, 1600Hz, respectively, at the FSK demodulator 2.6 V, 700Hz, respectively.

This paper proposes an optimized multi-bit digital FSK receiver robust to large carrier frequency offset (CFO) toward recently emerging long-range WPAN standards. Due to a short preamble length and strict BER requirements, we design a simple multi-bit digital demodulator combined with CFO estimator which guarantees the target BER performance. Simulation results verify that the proposed FSK receiver achieves CFO-free BER performance with the short preamble and satisfies the BER requirement by the recent WPAN applications.

We propose a new M-ary state-transition FSK modulator technique for enhancing demodulator's symbol timing recovery which can be applied to acoustic MODEM. In the previous technique, the demodulator's symbol timing performance can degrade when the sequences of same symbols are transmitted. This proposed method, because the transmission symbol changes in every single symbol period, increases the synchronization performance dramatically and has a simple MODEM and frame structure. On the one hand, we improve modulation-derived synchronization(MDS) which is M-ary FSK's symbol timing recovery scheme, then analyze it. Finally the proposed method is analyzed from the viewpoint of frequency efficiency, which proves this method is appropriate for acoustic MODEM.
The Viterbi decoding algorithm, which provides maximum - likelihood decoding, is currently considered the most widely used technique for the decoding of codes having a state description, including the class of linear error-correcting convolutional codes. Two classes of nonbinary convolutional codes are presented. Distance preserving mapping convolutional codes and M-ary convolutional codes are designed, respectively, from the distance-preserving mappings technique and the implementation of the conventional convolutional codes in Galois fields of order higher than two. We also investigated the performance of these codes when combined with a multiple frequency-shift keying (M-FSK) modulation scheme to correct narrowband interference (NBI) in power-line communications channel. Themodification of certain detectors of the M-FSK demodulator to refine the selection and the detection at the decoder is also presented. M-FSK detectors used in our simulations are discussed, and their chosen values are justified. Interesting and promising obtained results have shown a very strong link between the designed codes and the selected detector for M-FSK modulation. An important improvement in gain for certain values of the modified detectors was also observed. The paper also shows that the newly designed codes outperform the conventional convolutional codes in a NBI environment.

In this study, a half-duplex mutual communication device via human skin was developed. Frequency-shift keying (FSK) digital modulation and demodulation control were used to transmit and receive data. Data communication through the human body is an effective communication technique and has high-grade security characteristics. In addition, making contact is a natural instinct of humans. Transmitting data through the human body is currently a highly conspicuous technology, because recently a lot of commercial sensors for humans have been developed. A body area network (BAN) can be easily constructed by this communication method on human skin. In this study, a half-duplex FSK mutual communication device was developed using a commercial FSK modulator and demodulator. A special control switching circuit and communication sequence were developed for mutual communication through human skin.

The SSB modem performs the modulation process which converts the digital voltage level to the audible frequency band signal and the demodulation process which converts reversely the audible frequency signal to the digital voltage level. The modulator and the demodulator are implemented with a single DSP chip. Because of the SSB specific character, the distortion occurs when the frequency is changed. This distortion has no effect on voice communication, but it has an significant effect on data communication. In other words, it is impossible to send data stream with adjacent 2 periods. Therefore, in case of using 2-tone FSK, it is needed to send at least 3 periods to transmit 1 bit. Therefore we implemented the modem using modified phase-delay shift keying to transmit 1 tone signal for high speed transmission. In the 1200[bps] mode, it generates 0, $187{\mu}s$ delay time at 1.3kHz symbol frequency, and in the 2400[bps] mode, 0, $70{\mu}s$, $130{\mu}s$, $200{\mu}s$ delay time at 1.5kHz symbol frequency. Finally, in the maximum 3600[bps] mode, it generates 0, $100{\mu}s$, $160{\mu}s$, $250{\mu}s$ delay time at 2.0kHz symbol frequency. The measured results of the implemented SSB modem shows a good transfer functional characteristic by spectrum analyzer, almost same bandwidth in pass band and 20dB higher SNR comparing the German PACTOR and American CLOVER and in the experimental transmitting test, we verified the transmitted data is received correctly in platform.
