Performance Evaluation of Stator-Rotor Cascade System Considering Flow Viscosity and Aeroelastic Deformation Effects (유동점성 및 공탄성 변형효과를 고려한 스테이터-로터 케스케이드 시스템의 성능평가)

  • In this study, advanced (fluid-structure interaction (FSI)) analysis system has been developed in order to predict turbine cascade performance with blade deformation effect due to aerodynamic loads. Intereference effects due to the relative movement of the rotor cascade with respect to the stator cascade are also considered. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with one equation Spalart-Allmaras and two-equation k-ω SST turbulence models are solved to accurately predict fluid dynamic loads considering flow separation effects. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the (coupled Newmark time-integration method) with high artificial damping is efficiently used to compute the complex fluid-structure interaction problem. Predicted aerodynamic performance considering structural deformation effect of the blade shows somewhat different results compared to the case of rigid blade model. Cascade performance evaluations for different elastic axis positions are importantly presented and its aeroelastic effects are investigated.

Comparative Analysis of the Prerequisite Items Applicable to the HACCP in Livestock Processing Plants (축산물가공장 HACCP 선행요건 평가항목 개선을 위한 비교분석)

  • We analyze the HACCP Prerequisites of National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS), Korea Food and Drug Administration(KFDA), and US Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and recommend contents and ranges to be complemented and used for the preparation of guidelines. We used the HACCP Notice of the Processing Livestock Act, the HACCP Application Manual for Livestock Processing Plants, the HACCP Notice of the Food Sanitation Act, US GPO 9 CFR and 21 CFR, US FSIS Directive 11,000.1, and HACCP-based Inspection reference guide of Consumer Services, North Carolina Department of Agriculture. The Prerequisites of NVRQS and KFDA are composed of 66 and 84 items respectively, without detailed guidelines for their application. This may decisively affect the application in the field and the evaluation activities. Water supplies, washing and disinfection monitoring tools, and examining and correcting plan are required to be improved. If the standards of compliance of each Prerequisite item as well as performance guidelines are given, the application and evaluation will be performed more effectively. The evaluation items should be associated with Prerequisite operations such as non-compliance complement, self-evaluation, and record keeping. Hazards found during official inspection should be promptly controlled not to contaminate the work places and processing items. As the HACCP is expected to spread from farms to tables, the standardized Prerequisite program among the official governments should be prepared.

Identification of the South Korean Hermit Beetle (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Cetoniinae) (남한산 큰자색호랑꽃무지의 종 동정 (딱정벌레목, 풍뎅이과, 꽃무지아과))

  • The South Korean hermit beetle has previously been identified as Osmoderma opicum, which is distributed in Japan. Because of its rarity, this species is classified as an endangered species. To date, however, the identity of this species in South Korea has not been conclusively confirmed. To assess the taxonomic status of the hermit beetle occurring in South Korea, we performed a comparative study with the beetle's Eurasian congeners, based on morphological examination and molecular analysis using COI gene sequences. The results clearly showed that the South Korean hermit beetle is identical to Osmoderma caeleste, which has been described from the Russian Far East. Therefore, we suggest that the taxonomic identity of the South Korean hermit beetle is O. caeleste.

  • Although the technology of breadmaking simply goes through the process of mixing, fermentation, and baking, it is very hard to make a same product every day. The reason is that baking science begins with the very first process of breadmaking which is mixing, and every steps and working environments are so closely connected. The baking science has developed in short time since the theory of fermentation has released. If you check the development of baking technology synthetically, it is consisted of the discovery of nutritional and functional ingredients, the optimization process of new machines, and the maintenance of the quality as fulfilling social demands. Because the baking business is making and selling the product, baking itself is a business, and it has the form that manufacturing and service business coexist. In today's current domestic bakery market, the supply exceeds the demand. Moreover, the concept of bakery itself has been changing from the fixed image of bakery which is selling the bread to the differentiated bakery with others. As we look at the general bakery's trends, it is focused on going back to the basic or traditions, going to the functional, and working with automations. To conclude, the baking has a long history, but it actually has the short history in the technological development. Baking business can be viewed as the simple business, but many factors are related to the business. It has a few basic kinds of products in baking, but it has diverse kinds of products with the base of infinite creativity. Even though it is physically a hard working business, it is also a business that can face with fun. For managing a bakery, finally, the differentiated strategy with other bakery that maximizes the customers' value is needed.

Economic Analysis of Irradiation Technology of Food (식품의 이온화 조사기술에 대한 경제성 분석)

  • 본 연구는 식품의 이온화 조사 처리기술로 얻을 수 있는 경제적 이득을 정량적으로 보여줄 수 있는 자료를 마련하기 위한 것이다. 이온화 조사가 허용되었거나 앞으로 허용 가능한 농산물의 수확 후 관리 손실 비용을 분석하고, 가공식품의 저장성 향상에 의한 경제적 이득에 대하여 조사하였으며, 식품의 이온화 조사로 예방 할 수 있는 식중독 사고의 정도와 그 사회 경제적 비용절감을 추산하였다. 신선식품의 연간 수확 후 손실 비용은 감자, 마늘, 양파, 고추에 대해 총 1조 1,251억 원으로 추산되었다. 현재 이온화 조사가 허가된 품목(다류, 장류, 조미식품, 드레싱)의 유통기한 초과로 인한 폐기 손실액은 899억 원으로 조사되었다. 현재 이온화 조사가 허용되지는 않았으나 향후 조사품목을 확대하였을 때 포함될 수 있는 품목(식육과 알 가공품, 어육가공품, 건포류, 축산가공품)의 유통기한 초과에 의한 폐기손실액은 총 1,931억 원으로 조사되었다. 식품의 이온화 조사로 예방 가능한 식중독의 보건 사회적 비용을 추산한 결과 이온화 조사로 사멸효과가 큰 E. coli O157, Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella spp.에 의한 식중독 감소 효과로 연간 880억 원의 보건 사회적 비용 감소효과를 가져올 것으로 보여지며, 전체 세균성 식중독으로 확대하여 분석 한 결과 1,790억 원의 비용 감소효과를 가져올 것으로 추산되었다. 이온화 조사 처리기술은 식중독 예방에 의한 보건의료비의 절감 기능과 아울러 식품산업의 유통손실 절감과 식량 유실을 막는 효과적인 방법이므로 식량안보적 차원에서 적극 활용되어야 할 것으로 판단된다.

A Study of Fluid Structure Interaction Analysis and Coating Characteristics of a Two-stage Pressure Reduction Hydrogen Regulator (2단 감압 수소레귤레이터의 연성해석 및 도금특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, shape design and material selection were carried out for a two-stage pressure-reducing regulator to compensate for the shortcomings of a one-stage mechanical decompression regulator. The shape of the contact surface of the depressurization unit was considered, material was selected, and the shape was designed to compensate for the pulsation and slow response through the two-stage decompression and to solve the problem of high pressure deviation. In terms of airtightness, the deformation amount of TPU showed a small amount of displacement of up to 15.82%. Considering the fact that it is applicable to various hydrogen fuel supply systems by securing universality by applying electronic solenoids to the second pressure reduction, magnetic materials were selected. The hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion resistance were evaluated to verify the plating process. Surface corrosion did not occur in only the case of Cr plating. The elongation during the corrosion process was compared using a tensile test, and there was a difference within 2%.

  • It is necessary to improve the self-management ability of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certified companies and intensive management for companies with insufficient management. In addition, the efficiency and convenience of HACCP operation should be improved by expanding and distributing smart HACCP. In this way, it is the direction that HACCP in Korea should go forward to continuously discover and expand the field of application with the improving and smartening the HACCP system.

R&D operating strategy for future food industry (미래지향적 식품산업 R&D 추진전략)

  • The food R&D operating system needs to be changed according to the changes in the food industry as well as the domestic and overseas environments. In this aspect, a future-oriented food R&D operating strategy linked with the governmental policy are proposed to foster the promising food industry. The strategic R&D approaches are summarized on the basis of global mega-trends and food industry trend analysis, and current R&D status and issues are also reviewed to set the R&D operating direction for future food industry. To advance the R&D operating system of the food industry, some practical suggestions are given as follows: strengthening the research planning system for efficient R&D program operation, enhancing the role assignment and collaboration among the R&D organizations, reinforcing the support system tailored to industrial sites and securing the future technology bases as well as resolving present issues, and linking R&D programs with policies and improving the food R&D management system.

  • Even though the food safety system in the United States is one of the best in the world, many millions of people become sick and thousands die from foodborne illnesses caused by any of a number of microbial pathogens and other contaminants. Large recalls of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Food Drug and Administration (US FDA)-regulated food products due to findings of E. coli O157:H7, Listeria, Salmonella, and other problems occur each year. As the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) passed in 2011, FSMA will require food processing, manufacturing, shipping, and other regulated entities to conduct an analysis of the most likely safety hazards and to design and implement risk-based controls to reduce or eliminate these hazards. FSMA also mandates increased scrutiny of food imports, which account for a growing share of U.S. food consumption; food import shipments will have to be accompanied by documentation showing that they can meet safety standards that are at least equivalent to those in the U.S. On September 17, 2015, the US FDA published final rules for Preventive Controls for Human and Animal Food and, continuing into 2016, the US FDA intends to finalize the remaining five rules it has proposed to implement FSMA. Among these rules, this article will review and discuss Preventive Controls for Human Food Rule and its components, and suggest how to comply with these FSMA rules as foreign human food and ingredients suppliers to the US.

  • Due to the recent demand for low-calorie foods, consumers are looking for alternative sweeteners that can control blood sugar, low risk of tooth decay and low calories. Regulations for permitted sweeteners in food vary from every country, and it is important for the government and the food industry to monitor products containing these sweeteners to ensure global compliance. Therefore, rapid, precise, and accurate analysis for food matrices should be applied to quality control, market surveillance, monitoring, and evaluation of food additive intake in the food industry. To analyze sweeteners simultaneously, it is essential to develop an efficient and rapid analytical method and to perform appropriate pretreatment steps such as solvent extraction and purification. This study presented the recent analysis trends about the suitable extraction method for food matrices focusing on non-nutritive sweeteners. Additionally, techniques for multi-compounds analysis using HPLC and LC-MS/MS and non-destructive analysis techniques using FT-IR were comprehensively described.
