  • A new fractal geometry of the traveling wave type cross antenna is newly presented. In the conventional type of the traveling wave antenna, the electrical length of the radiating conductor increases as the order of fractal expansion increases. But, increased length of the current path degrades the performance of the antenna from the various loss mechanism of the traveling wave type antenna. To reduce the antenna performance degradation, the new hybrid fractal antenna, which divides the entire fractal structure into some smaller ones and connects each smaller fractal group with a power divider is presented. The secondly, thirdly and fourthly expanded hybrid fractal cross antennas are fabricated and their performances are examined by measurements. Influences of the fractal order to the antenna performance are examined.

  • Fractal image compression can reduce the size of image data by the contractive mapping that is affine transformation to find the block(called as range block) which is the most similar to the original image. Even though fractal image compression is regarded as an efficient way to reduce the data size, it has high distortion rate and requires long encoding time. In this paper, we presented a hybrid fractal image compression system with the modified SOFM Vector Quantizer which uses improved competitive learning method. The simulation results showed that the VQ hybrid fractal using improved competitive loaming SOFM has better distortion rate than the VQ hybrid fractal using normal SOFM.

  • The changes in the dispersion of carbon black in liquid polyisoprene under shear flow with time have been investigated by time-resolved ultra small-angle X-ray scattering (USAXS) method. The analyses of USAXS profile immediately after the start of shear flow clarified that the aggregates of carbon black with a mean radius of gyration of 14 nm and surface fractal dimension of 2.5 form the fractal network structure with mass-fractal dimension of 2.9. After the application of the shear flow, the scattering intensity increases with time at the observed whole entire q region, and then the a shoulder appears at $q=0.005nm^{-1}$, indicating that the agglomerate is broken and becomes smaller by shear flow. The analysis by the Unified Guinier/Power-law approach yielded several characteristic parameters, such as the sizes of aggregate and agglomerate, mass-fractal dimension of agglomerate, and surface fractal dimension of the primary particle. While the mean radius of gyration of the agglomerate decreases with time, the mean radius of gyration of the aggregate, mass fractal dimension, and surface fractal dimension don't change with time, indicating that the aggregates peel off the surface of the agglomerate.

  • As Big data began to produce a variety of values, a database that allows for huge amount of data with varieties became to be needed. Therefore, for the purpose of overcoming the limitations of the complexity and capacity of the existing RDBMS, NoSQL databases were introduced. Among the different types of NoSQL databases, MongoDB is most commonly used and is offered as open sources. The B-Tree index, used in MongoDB, experiences a significant decrease in performance as the amount of data increases. The fractal tree index enables to enhance the performance of B-Tree substantially by improving B-Tree's insertion algorithm. In this paper, the performances of MongoDB when using B-Tree Index and when using Fractal Tree Index are compared.

  • Contemporary architecture is showing its deconstruction and departure from modern architecture based on rationality, such as reductionism or virtualism. This means a shift from a mechanistic and ecological world view to an organic and ecological view, from a deterministic reason to a reason for a possible secret static. This study examines the potential of fractals, a scientific theory of complexity that is emerging as a new paradigm in the 21st century, as an appropriate alternative to contemporary complexity architecture. The method and scope of this study were understood and its features were identified through literature and data research and prior study review. Based on the organic nature of fractal geometry, we analyzed the works of contemporary architects(Frank Gehry, Bernard Tschumi, Steven Holl, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, Daniel Libeskind, Zvi Hecker, Ito Toyo) and studied the possibility of architectural design using the principle of fractal. As a result, fractal geometry, similar to the patterned order of nature, has an infinite set of organizational functionalities in architecture and can be applied in various aspects of design analysis. Architectural designs based on the fractal theory will require more research and development to realize dynamic design representation using digital computers.

  • In this paper, we propose a method that extracts features from character patterns using the fractal dimension of chaos theory. The input character pattern image is converted into time-series data. Then, using the modified Henon system suggested in this paper, it determines the last features of the character pattern image after calculating the box-counting dimension, natural measure, information bit, and information (fractal) dimension. Finally, character pattern recognition is performed by statistically finding each information bit that shows the minimum difference compared with a normalized character pattern database.

  • The fractal theory is an interesting tool for measuring the soil properties which are irregular and dynamical. A simple example is shown in this paper that (statistical) fractal dimension can be evaluated from the traditional Particle-size distribution(PSD) curve. The results of Wu et al.(1993) and Bittelli el al.(1999) were referred to demonstrate the fractal analysis.

  • As a tool of measuring the irregularity of curve, fractal dimensions can be used. For an irregular function, fractional calculus are more available. However, to know its fractional differentiability which is related to its complexity is complicated one. In this paper, variants of the Hausdorff dimension and the packing dimension as well as the derivative order are defined and the relations between them are investigated so that the differentiability of fractal curve can be explained through its complexity.

  • Molybdena powder was heated at both 660$^{\circ}C$ and 700$^{\circ}C$ for half-hour in an evaporation-deposition device. The molybdena thin films deposited on the surfaces of alumina ceramics displayed two kinds of fractal aggregates, i.e., the stackings of ribbon-like crystals and ramified palm-like structures. It is revealed from the experimental results that the microstructures of these fractal aggregates depended strongly on their growth conditions. The dynamics of fractal growth of molybdena thin film is discussed.
