Over testing problems of satellites and theirs components have been issued due to their effects on satellite development cost and schedule. Force limited vibration tests were introduced as solution of the problems in 1980s. Over testing phenomena occurs due to the lack of similarity on interface impedance. Force limited vibration tests control interface force to simulate actual interface impedance. In this research, force limited vibration tests are applied on two satellites environmental tests. Force limits are calculated by using TDFS method and Semi-Empirical method. Four force sensors are employed to control interface force. The tests prove that force limited control reduced maximum interface acceleration in order of 3.
In this paper, the contact force between two colliding bodies is modeled by using Hertz's force-displacement law and nonlinear damping function. In order to verify the appropriateness of the proposed contact force model, the drop type impact test is carried out for different impact velocities and different materials of the impacting body, such as rubber, plastic and steel. In the drop type impact experiment, six photo interrupters in series close to the collision location are installed to measure the velocity before impact more accurately. The characteristics of contact force model are investigated through experiments. The parameters of the contact force model are estimated using the optimization technique. Finally the estimated parameters are used to predict the impact force between two colliding bodies in opening action of the magnetic contactor, a kind of switch mechanism for switching electric circuits.

There are many dynamic properties in measured end-milling force. So, it is difficult to predict the real static property of end-milling force. Also the behavior of end-milling force is very complex to predict with the measured one. To extract the static property from measured force, it must be filtered and its problem is closely related to a de-noising one. Also this paper presents alternative de-noising method of end-milling force using wavelet filter bank, based on the wavelet transform and its inverse one. In this paper, by comparing the measured force and its wavelet filtered one, the fundamental end-milling force property after wavelet transform is well reviewed and analyzed. This result of wavelet filtering with filter bank shows the static force of end-milling which has severe dynamic properties occurring in entry and exit state of edge emersion into the workpiece.

In order to evaluate dynamic impedance of a hand-arm system it is necessary to measure the hand-transmitted vibration and the reaction force at the same time while gripping the vibrating handle. In the study a device was developed to measure both the vibration and the force. The device consists of a measurement handle with four strain gauge and two accelerometers and a PC based control system with a program for the signal processing and evaluation of the hand-transmitted vibration and reaction force. The handle was installed on the vibration shaker so that it can move by the generated signal from the control system. As an application of the system dynamic reaction force and the frequency weighted acceleration at the handle attached to the shaker were measured at various grip force and feed force. This system will be very useful in the area of impedance measurement and the evaluation of performance of anti-vibration gloves.

This paper is on the study of flow force compensating method of spool type valve. A simple flow force compensating method using stepped spool is presented in this paper. It is easy to manufacture stepped spool in the presented method because the shape of it is simple. The method has the merit that the size of valve need not be increased. Actuating force required for driving means of spool can be decreased by the compensation of flow force. The effect of presented method is predicted through CFD analysis. The prototypes of flow force compensating Direct Drive Servo-Valve where the result of CFD analysis is reflected are manufactured, and the measurement of flow force is carried out. It is known from the measurement that the effect of flow force compensation is very similar to from CFD analysis.

In this study, dynamic stability of discontinuous free Timoshenko beam, barring a concentrated mass, under constant follower force is considered. Governing differential equations are derived based on the extended Hamilton's principle and finite element method is applied for numerical analysis. Conclusions of the study are as follows : (1) Without force direction control, (i) the critical follower force at instability is increased with concentrated mass regardless of discontinuity. (ii) the minimum critical follower force is located in the vicinity of discontinuity position .xi.$_{d}$=0.75. (iii) at mass location .mu. .leq.0.5 the force at instability is decreased as magnitude of concentrated mass is increased but, at .mu. .geq. 0.5 the force is increased as the mass is increased. (2) With force direction control, (i) shear deformation parameter S contributes insignificantly to the force at instability when S>10$^{[-993]}$ (ii) maximum critical follower force can be obtained for the discontinuity location .xi.$_{d}$=0.25. (iii) the critical follower force is increased as magnitude of concentrated mass .alpha. is increased at mass location .mu. .geq.0.4, but is increased, .mu ..leq.0.4.4.

Golf ball spin rate after impact with club is created by the contact force, which is greatly influenced by ball and club mass, material, impact speed, and club loft angle. Previous studies showed that the contact force is determined as the resultant force of the reaction forces normal and tangential to the club face at the contact point. The normal force causes the compression and restitution of the ball, and the tangential force creates the spin. Especially, the tangential force takes either positive or negative values as the ball rolls and slides along the club face during impact. Although the positive and negative tangential forces are known to create and reduce the back spin rate, respectively, the mechanism of ball spin creation has not yet been discussed in detail. It is shown in this work that the linear impulse of the tangential force is directly related to generation of back spin rate of golf ball. The linear impulse can be calculated from the tangential force, which depends upon many factors such as ball and club mass, material, impact speed, and club loft angle. In this research, the influence of the contact force between golf club and ball is investigated to analyze the mechanism of impact. For this purpose, the contact force and the contact time at impact between golf club head and ball are computed using FEM.

In this paper, a force estimation method is proposed for force control without force sensor. For this , a disturbance observer is applied to each joint of an {{{{ { n}_{ } }}}} degrees of freedom manipulator to obtain a simple equivalent robot dynamics(SERD) being represented as an n independent double integrator system. To estimate the output of disturbance observer due to internal torque, the disturbance observer output estimator(DOOE) is designed, where uncertain parameters of the robot manipulator are adjusted by the gradient method to minimize the performance index which is defined as the quadratic form of the error signal between the output of disturbance observer and that of DOOE. when the external force is exerted, the external force is estimated by the difference between the output of disturbance observer and DOOE, since output of disturbance observer includes the external torque signal as well as the internal torque estimated by the output of DOOE. And then, a force controller is designed for force feedback control employing the estimated force signal. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed force estimation method, several numerical examples and experimental results are illustrated for the 2-axis direct drive robot manipulator.

The detent force of a permanent magnet linear motor(PMLM) consists of the end force and cogging force, and should be reduced for high precision purpose applications. The cogging force comes from the electromagnetic interaction between the permanent magnets and interior teeth(or the slots) of the stator, and of which the magnitude depends on the ratio of the numbers of the armature and permanent magnet poles as well as the geometrical shape of the permanent magnet and armature pole. In order to reduce the cogging force of a PMLM, this paper proposes a new configuration which has 9 permanent magnet poles and 10 armature winding slots. By theoretical investigation of the principle of cogging force generation and simulating using finite element method, the proposed PMLM configuration is proven to give much less cogging force than the conventional configuration which has 8 permanent magnet poles and 12 armature winding slots. A proper winding algorithm, modified (A, A, A) winding method, for the proposed configuration is also suggested when the proposed PMLM is operating as a 3 phase synchronous machine. A theoretical and numerical calculation shows that the proposed configuration makes slightly bigger back-emf and thrust force under same exciting current and total number of winding turns condition.
