  • Indications of fiberoptic laryngeal laser surgery (FLS) procedure have broadened by the development of flexible fiberoptic endoscopes and flexible laser systems. FLS procedure performed under local anesthesia and it is the unique value of FLS. The surgery can be performed on patients who are impossible to undergo general anesthesia and difficult to be exposed by laryngeal microsurgery. Main indication of FLS procedure was small to moderate sized hemorrhagic vocal polyp, but we experienced a case of huge vocal polyp with difficult laryngeal exposure treated by FLS procedure under local anesthesia. The vocal polyp was removed successfully without vocal fold scar through fiberoptic laryngeal laser surgery under local anesthesia.

  • We present new analyses of FLS 1718+59, a galaxy-galaxy gravitational lens system in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) Field. A background galaxy (z = 0.245) is severely distorted by a nearby elliptical galaxy (z = 0.08), which can be interpreted as a result of gravitational lensing. We analyze this system by multiple methods, including ELLIPSE fitting, gravitational lens modeling, and surface brightness fitting. From this analysis, we obtain parameters of the lens galaxy using varying approaches and compare them. In the future, we will conduct SED fitting for the lens galaxy and estimate the stellar mass, and compare this with the total mass of the lens to check the M-L relation.

  • We present results of the analysis of FLS 1718+59, a galaxy-galaxy gravitational lens system in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) Field. A background galaxy (z = 0.245) is severely distorted by an elliptical galaxy (z = 0.08), by gravitational lensing. We analyze this system by several methods, including Ellipse and Galfit fitting, gravitational lens modeling (gravlens), and SED fitting. Properties of the lens galaxy can be obtained: from Galfit we measure the effective radius and the average surface brightness inside it, and from gravlens we estimate the total mass inside the Einstein radius (lensing mass). We use these parameters to check that the lens galaxy is located on the Fundamental Plane. Also, we conduct SED fitting for the lens galaxy and estimate the stellar mass, and compare this with the lensing mass of the lens galaxy to check the M-L relation.

  • We present the results of the analysis of FLS 1718+59, a galaxy-galaxy gravitational lens system in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) field. A background galaxy ($z_s=0.245$) is severely distorted by a nearby elliptical galaxy ($z_l=0.08$), via gravitational lensing. The system is analysed by several methods, including surface brightness fitting, gravitational lens modeling, and spectral energy distribution fitting. From Galfit and Ellipse we measure basic parameters of the galaxy, such as the effective radius and the average surface brightness within it. gravlens yields the total mass inside the Einstein radius ($R_{Ein}$), and MAGPHYS gives us an estimate of the stellar mass inside $R_{Ein}$. By comparing these parameters, we confirm that the lens galaxy is an elliptical galaxy on the Fundamental Plane and calculate the stellar mass fraction inside $R_{Ein}$, and discuss the results with regards to the initial mass function.

  • The state-of-arts of multiscale simulation (MSS) in science and engineering is briefly presented and MSS for process development (PD-MSS) is proposed to effectively apply the MSS to the process development. The four-level PD-MSS is composed of PLS (process-level simulation), FLS (fluid-level simulation), mFLS (microfluid-level simulation) and MLS (molecular-level simulation). Characteristics and methods of each level, as well as connectivity between the four levels are described. For example in PD-MSS, absorption column, fluidized-bed reactor, and adsorption process are introduced. For successful MSS, it is necessary to understand the multiscale nature in chemical engineering problems, to develop models representing physical phenomena at each scale and between scales, to develop softwares implementing mathematical models on computer, and to have strong computing facilities. MSS should be performed within acceptable accuracy of simulation results, available computation capacity, and reasonable efficiency of calculation. Macroscopic and microscopic scale simulations have been developed relatively well but mesoscale simulation shows a bottleneck in MSS. Therefore, advances on mesoscale models and simulation tools are required to accurately and reliably predict physical phenomena. PD-MSS will find its way into a sustainable technology being able to shorten the duration and to reduce the cost for process development.

  • We present our analysis of a newly discovered galaxy-galaxy gravitational lens system in the First Look Survey (FLS) field. This object shows a highly distorted background galaxy (z=0.245) image by a nearby elliptical galaxy (z=0.08), which can be interpreted as a result of gravitational lensing. We model the lens with elliptical isothermal sphere model, and present the mass and potential distribution of the system.

  • In this study, a floating LiDAR system (FLS) is investigated through a field test involving two steps. First, correlations among wind speeds, measured using the met mast and two LiDARs, are computed to analyze the acceptance criteria of LiDAR for measuring wind speed. The results of the analysis show that the slopes of single variant regression between mean wind speeds are below 1.03 and the coefficient of determination is above 0.97. Next, correlations among wind speeds measured using the FLS and a fixed LiDAR are determined through a field test carried out in Doomi-doo, Tong-young, Gyeongsangnam-do. The FLS is installed 300 m away from the fixed LiDAR on the ground. The results show that the slope of single variant regression is approximately 1.0275 and the coefficient of determination is above 0.971. According to the IEA/wind 18 recommendation, it is found that the developed FLS measures valid wind speeds to assess wind resources for the development of offshore wind farms.

  • Kaempferol 3-O-galactoside (Trifolin), a member of the flavonol group, has been reported to have anticancer effects against promyelocytic leukemia, histocytic lymphoma, skin melanoma and lung cancer. Trifolin has been extracted and used from several plants, but the extraction process is complicated and the final yield is low. Biotransformation is an alternative tool to produce high value-added chemicals from inexpensive compounds. To synthesis trifolin from naringenin, three genes (PeFLS and OsUGE-PhUGT) were introduced into Escherichia coli, respectively. In order to synthesis trifolin from naringenin, a co-culture fermentation system was established by optimizing the cell concentration, biotransformation temperature and medium, isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactoside (IPTG) concentration, substrate supply concentration, and recombinant protein induction time. The established optimal conditions for trifolin production were a 3:1 ratio of BL-UGTE to BL-FLS, induction of recombinant protein at 25 ℃ for 4 h after addition of 2.0 mM IPTG, biotransformation at 30 ℃, and supply of 300 μM naringenin. Through the optimized co-culture fermentation system, trifolin was biosynthesized up to 67.3 mg/L.
