The authors investigated feeding habit of river sculpin(C. poecilopus) were conducted at the Chiak streams from April 1993 to March 1994. The feeding habit of C. poecilopus was mainly acquatic insects, such as Ephemeroptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Trichoptera, Coleoptera, Diptera, and Nematoda, teleost fishes, fish egg and terrestrial insects. Terrestrial insects in the stomach contents were found mainly in autumn, and teleost fish(Moroco oxycephalus) was in summer. Aquatic insects(Ephemeroptera, Trichoptera and Diptera) constituted the bulk of food items ingested during each season. The prey selection indices for Ephemeroptera were positively selected in summer, and negatively selected in autumn and winter, Tricoptera and Diptera were positively selected in autumn and winter, and negatively selected in summer. Additionally, analysis for stomach contents of guarding males suggests that the parental males eat their own eggs during egg guarding(filial-cannibalism).
Feeding habits of Limanda yokohamae collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay were studied. L. yokohamae (1-16 cm SL) was a carnivore which consumed mainly polychaetes. Its diets included a significant quantity of amphipods (gammarids and caprellids) as well as small quantities of gastropods and ophiuroids. L. yokohamae showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals less than 4 cm SL preyed mainly on amphipods. However, polychaetes were heavily selected with increasing fish size while the portion of the diet attributable to amphipods decreased sharply. Polychaetes were the major prey organisms for all seasons. Dietary breadth of each size class shows relatively low value, and this means that L. yokohamae depends on only few kinds of food organisms.
Feeding habits of Micropterus salmoides were investigated from the stomach contents of specimens ranging from 13 to 511 mm in standard length (n = 419), which are collected in the Lake Okjeong, Korea, 2006 to 2007. M. salmoides is a very strong carnivorous fish eating living organisms such as lots of fishes, small amount of aquatic insects and shrimps. As they grow, the feeding habits changed : they fed mainly on Branchioda in 10 to 20 mm in SL., aquatic insects and small fishes in 30 to 50 mm in SL., fishes including Zacco platypus, Hemiculter eigenmanni and Rhinogobius brunneus over 50 mm. However, among the prey organisms, M. salmoides most preferred living fishes. Analysing ichthyofauna of the Lake Okjeong from 1981 to the present investigation, after and before introduction of M. salmoides, it was showed that there was a certain reduction in fish diversity. Consequently, it is likely to let the strongly fish-eating habit to reduce a diversity of native fishes in the lake.
Oreochromis niloticus is the most ecologically and economically important fish in tropical and sub-tropical aquatic systems. Recently, due to sever anthropogenic stressors, hydrological variations and infestations of invasive alien species in Ethiopian water bodies, fish community structure and ecosystem of Lake Tana is changing alarmingly. So far, there is paucity of information on the morphometric relations and diet composition of O. niloticus in Lake Tana, gulf of Gorgora. A total of 309 fish samples were collected and their total length (TL), standard length (SL) and total weight (TW) were measured to determine morphometric relations; and gut contents were examined to identify most important food item in the diet of the fish. Results indicated that, the relation between TL and SL was significant (p < 0.001) and linear (SL = 0.942TL-2.41) while the relation between TL and TW was curvilinear (TW = 0.014 TL2.8) indicating allometric growth. Among the total guts scrutinized, 53 (17.3%) of them were empty and the remaining 256 (82.7%) were non-empty. Phytoplankton constituted the largest bulk and occurred in 77% of the guts examined and volumetrically accounted 44.3%. Detritus and zooplankton had an intermediate importance by occurring 60.2% and 63.3% of all guts scrutinized and constituted about 25.6% and 15.5% of the total volume respectively. Contributions of macrophytes, insects, nematodes and unidentified food items were relatively low in their importance. Ontogenetic dietary shift was observed in the diet indicating an omnivorous feeding habit of the adult fish.
Purpose: Clinical symptoms associated with Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) can vary widely. Carrier state without apparent symptoms is relatively common during infancy. The objective of this study was to determine the association of C. difficile colonization with bowel habit change and the effect of C. difficile colonization treatment on restoration of normal bowel habit. Methods: Between 2006 and 2014, infants at 1 to 12 months of age with diarrhea for more than 2 weeks who did not improve with conservative care were recruited from Gachon University Gil Medical Center. Infants who were followed up for at least 7 days were included. The presence or absence of C. difficile colonization, effect of metronidazole, and other medical records were reviewed. To determine the association between CDI and bowel habit change, logistic regression analysis was used. Results: Of a total of 126 infants, 74 (58.7%) were male patients. Of the 126 patients, 27 (21.4%) had C. difficile colonization. Significant (p<0.05) risk factors for C. difficile colonization included artificial milk feeding (odds ratio [OR], 4.310; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.564-11.878), prior rotavirus vaccination (OR, 4.322; 95% CI, 1.018-18.349), and antibiotic use (OR, 4.798; 95% CI, 1.430-16.101). There was improvement in bowel habit after metronidazole therapy (OR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.15-0.79; p<0.05), regardless of the presence or absence of C. difficile colonization, Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between bowel habit change and C. difficile colonization during infancy. However, metronidazole can be used as an optional method to manage functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Feeding habits of Syngnathus schlegeli were studied by using samples collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay, Korea from January 1994 to December 1994. Syngnathus schlegeli was a carnivore which mainly consumed copepods and epiphytal gammarid amphipods. Its diets included small quantities of caprellid amphipods, tanaids and mysids. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. In its initial feeding stage, copepods were major food organisms. However, gammarid amphipods were heavily selected with the incretment of the fish size. Food availability in the eelgrass bed changed seasonally. Its main food items were changed according to variations of food availability. Copepods were mainly consumed in spring, and gammarid amphipods in summer and fall.

This study sought to investigate the association between the food literacy (FL) of children and mothers, and the maternal feeding style. Study subjects were mothers (n=400) with children in the 4th to 6th grades of elementary school and who were the primary caregivers for their children (n=400). The responses to the Caregiver's Feeding Styles Questionnaire (CFSQ) were obtained from mothers. Both mothers and children completed the questionnaire for socio-demographics, dietary habits, health status, and food literacy. The high demanding/high responsive feeding style was associated with increased meal frequency for both mothers and children. The low demanding/low responsive feeding style was significantly associated with a lower mother's FL after accounting for confounding factors. The low demanding feeding styles were associated with the child's lower FL after adjustments for the age, sex, weight status of the child and the age, household income, and education of the mother. However, this association was not seen after making an additional adjustment for the mother's FL. These results suggest that the caregiver's feeding style may affect the dietary habits and FL of both mother and child.
The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between young children's picky eating behavior and mother's attitudes, beliefs and practices regarding the eating habits of children. Using a sample of 304 mothers of four or five year-old children, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to test a 7 factor model, which included mother's beliefs and practices related to the feeding of their children. Following this, a t-test was conducted to examine the differences between the feeding behaviors of mothers of both of picky and non-oicky eaters, respectively. The results indicated that picky eater's eating behaviors were positively related to the pressures exerted by mothers and negatively related to the mother's concerns about their child's weight and child's BMI. These findings suggest that the pressures mothers exert upon their children to eat, their child's weight and picky eating behaviors are correlated to each other.
It was attempted in the present study to determind the effect of Korean ginseng on acute viral(B type) hepatitis by double blind test clinically and the results were as follows. 1. The double blind test of 4 week period showed no statistical significance of the effect of ginseng on the disease. 2. The double blind test of 2 week period, however, showed a significant effect in such clinical symptoms as appetite, stomach ache, headache, chillness dizziness, nausea and vomitting, stool habit change and jaundice. Improvement of the blood serum level of transaminases, bilirubin. alkaline phosphatase and cholesterol Chillness feeding period was observed.
The feeding habits of the marbled flounder Pleuronectes yokohamae were studied using 395 specimens collected from January to December, 2010, in the coastal waters off Tongyeong, Korea. The size of P. yokohamae ranged from 10.5 to 38.8 cm in standard length (SL). P. yokohamae is a bottom-feeding carnivore that consumes mainly bivalves, amphipods and polychaetes. Its diet also includes small quantities nemertians, anthozoan, isopods, copepods, tanaidacean, shrimps, crabs and ophiuroids. Our feeding-strategy graphical method reveled that P. yokohamae was a generalized feeder, with a wide niche width. P. yokohamae mainly consumed bivalves, amphipods and polychaetes, and did not show significant ontogenetic changes in feeding habit without size over 22 cm. Prey size did not increase significantly as growing fish size.
