  • In this paper, we presented WT(wavelet transform) domain feedback canceller in hearing aids system. Most transform methods produce blocking effect and this effect degrades the performance of feedback canceller and overall hearing aids system. As a solution we proposed WT based feedback canceller. The performance of this new approach was compared with LOT (lapped orthogonal transform) based method in the frequency domain. As a result, WT based feedback canceller has not shown the blocking effect and improved convergence rate as compared with the LOT based feedback canceller.

  • This paper is concerned with the active vibration control of beam equipped with piezoceramic sensors and actuators. The single-input and single-output positive position feedback controller is considered as an active vibration controller for the beam. The proposed single-input and single-output positive position feedback controller can cope with many modes of interest by summing each positive position feedback controller designed for each mode. In this paper, theoretical formulation is first explained in detail. We discuss how to design the single-input and single-output positive position feedback controller for a target structure by considering Euler-Bemoulli beam. It is found that the theories developed in this study are capable of predicting the control system characteristics and its performance.

  • This study evaluates the accuracy of corrective feedback from Grammarly, an online grammar checker, on essays written by cyber university learners in terms of detected errors, suggested replacement forms, and false alarms. The results indicate that Grammarly has a high overall error detection rate of over 65%, being particularly strong at catching errors related to articles and prepositions. In addition, on the detected errors, Grammarly mostly provide accurate replacement forms and very rarely make false alarms. These findings suggest that Grammarly has high potential as a useful educational tool to complement the drawbacks of teacher feedback and to help learnersimprove grammatical accuracy in their written work. However, it is still premature to conclude that Grammarly can completely replace teacher feedback because it has the possibility (approximately 35%) of failing to detect errors and the limitationsin detecting errors in certain categories. Since the feedback from Grammarly is not entirely reliable, caution should be taken for successful integration of Grammarly in English writing classes. Teachers should make judicious decisions on when and how to use Grammarly, based on a keen awareness of Grammarly's strengths and limitations.

  • Proprioception defined it as the ability to detect, the spatial position or movement of joints using balance, power of the muscle, agility in the internal parts of the body. In existing study for improvement of proprioception, reaching task training provided a feedback; the assessment was not provided a feedback. But, this has problem that it can not guide a proprioception from situation with visual feedback. Virtual reality technique can solve the problem of way providing feedback during training. In this study, we developed proprioception training program using virtual reality and pilot study is performed. VR task were composed three modes. In mode 1, real-time movement of the body was provided using visual feedback. In mode 2, body position was provided using visual feedback when participant have specific response. And in mode 3, body position was not provided. VR task is performed five sessions at each mode and one session performed one by one a three target. In the result of this study, the moving time toward the target from mode 3 was smaller than the moving time toward the target from mode 1 (p= 0.001). The correlation was statistically significant between mode 2 and mode 3 while be offering visual feedback position of mode 2 1session. But, the correlation was not statistically significant between mode 2 and mode 3 after be offered visual feedback position of mode2 1session (p = 0.012). Training environment of mode 1 shows which training used visual feedback than proprioception. Mode2 can execute training of proprioception because first session acquires visual feedback by proprioception. The next study will be verification of the system for training or assessment by clinical experiment.

  • This research examined the difference in cognitive load and the virtual presence depending on auditory feedback and task difficulty in haptic-based dental simulation. In the field of dental education, practice-centered training using handpiece has been crucial because a practitioner's psychomotor experience has a significant impact on the mastery of treatment skills. For the novice, it is necessary to reduce errors in dental treatment to enhancing skill acquisition in the haptic practice. In the training process, the force-feedback is crucial to elaborate subtle movement to guide what to do and how it should be hard or soft. However, It is not easy to add force-feedback to generate kinetic experience training. As an alternative method, we examined that auditory feedback can help learners' skill training. In this study, we analyzed how the presence/absence of auditory feedback at the different levels of task difficulty impacts learners' psychological demand and virtual presence in the virtual reality simulation. For this study, 29 dental college students participated in a dental simulation. The participants were grouped into two conditions that are with and without auditory feedback. Additionally, two consecutive tooth preparation tasks with different levels of difficulty were used in the simulation. The auditory feedback condition gives alarms to a learner when he treats a non-targeted tooth with a virtual handpiece. The user's cognitive load and virtual presence were measured to examine the effects of auditory feedback. The results revealed that the main effect was found in cognitive loads. Also, a significant interaction effect was shown in the virtual presence. We discussed the effective design methods for the virtual reality-based dental simulation through the result of this study.

  • In this study, we have designed and established a formative evaluation system which provides the web-based corrective feedback in the current situation that the importance of feedback as well as the formative evaluation is getting highlighted in the course of learning and instruction. This system is composed of three types of corrective feedback. The first one is the informations providing feedback by stage. It provides the explanations or the correct answers-related informations for the wrong answered questions by stage and directly. The second one is the error corrective feedback, which provides the informations about the reasons of the errors on each wrong answered question so that the learner can correct his errors. Lastly, the corrective feedback by the accumulated marks shows the learner's total marks and their wrong answered questions to enable the learner to learn for themselves. We analyzed how these three corrective feedback effects on the learning achievement after applying them to learners, and testified the type of the most effective corrective feedback in enhancing the degree of learning achievement.

  • In the DFE(Decision Feedback Equalizer) for ATSC DTV receivers, there are decision errors in the slicer or. the simplified trellis decoder, and these decided false data comes to the feedback filter to make the error propagation phenomenon. The error propagation degrades the equalizer performance by increasing residual errors as well as slowing down the convergence rate. In this paper we propose a dual-feedback equalization structure. There are two feedback filters. One is the decision feedback filter which uses the simplified trellis decoder output data, the other is non-decision feedback filter which uses the equalizer output data. The additional non-decision feedback filter doesn't introduce the error propagation, so it can compensate the error propagation. The proposed structure accelerates the convergence rate as well as reduces output men-square error(MSE). We analyzed the performance enhancement of DTV receiver using dual-feedback equalization structure.

  • Ankle-foot orthosis with a pneumatic rubber actuator, which is intended for the assistance and the enhancement of ankle muscular activities was developed. In this study, the effectiveness of the system was investigated during plantarflexion motion of ankle joint. To find a effectiveness of the system, the subjects performed maximal voluntary isokinetic plantarflexion contraction on a Biodex-dynamometer. Plantarfexion torque of the ankle joint is assisted by subject's soleus muscle that is generated when ankle joint do plantarflexion motion. We used the muscular stiffness signal of a soleus muscle for feedback control of ankle-foot orthosis as physiological signal. For measurement of this signal, we made the muscular stiffness force sensor. We compared a muscular stiffness force of a soleus muscle between with feedback control and without it and a maximal plantarflexion torque between not wearing a ankle-foot orthosis, without feedback control wearing it and with feedback control wearing it in each ten elderly adults. The experimental result showed that a muscular stiffness force of a soleus muscle with feedback control was reduced and plantarflexion torque of an ankle joint only wearing ankle-foot orthosis was reduced but a plantarflexion torque with feedback control was increased. The amount of a increasing with feedback control is more higher than the amount of a decreasing only wearing it. Therefore, we confirmed the effectiveness of the developed ankle-foot orthosis with feedback control.

  • This study examined the relative effects of different feedback delivery method (face-to-face vs. e-mail) and reinforcement history on work performance. Participants were asked to work on a simulated mobile phone assembly task. They performed for 30 minutes per session and attended 4 sessions. The dependents variable was the percentage of correctly completed work tasks. Of 100 participants recruited, 50 had a reinforcement history and another 50 had no reinforcement history with the feedback provider in this study. The participants in each group were randomly assigned into two experimental conditions: face-to-face feedback and e-mail feedback. The results showed that for the participants who had reinforcement history, the two feedback delivery methods did not produce a significant difference in the percentage of correctly completed work tasks. However, for those who had no reinforcement history, the two feedback methods did produce a significant difference.
